View Full Version : Future for the class of 2006

Airman
12-17-2005, 10:47 PM
Airman is finally a high school senior, and he can't wait to graduate and get the hell out of New England (assuming, of course, he is accepted somewhere far away). His list of colleges includes:

University of California - Irvine
University of California - Santa Barbara
University of Maine - Orono
University of Massachusetts - Amherst
University of Oregon
University of Washington

Irvine is the top choice, probably hardest to get into as well. I may apply to one more, perhaps University of Arizona.

So, other seniors, what will you be doing this time next year? College? A year off for work/travel/getting blazed? Signing your death warrant and joining the amry? Inquiring Airmans wanna know.

Same thing I'm doing now.

On uni holidays, regretting the lack of effort I put into the previous two semesters. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v486/Twotwenty/crying.gif

Edit: Oh snap! Seniors. Oh well, it still applies because that is what I thought I would be doing when I was one.

Hey! It's not only HS seniors that can go to college D:

I may be in college this time next year, or in Japan with teh Roark, or lying dead in a ditch somewhere...

Though, I am looking into going back to college for some classes, probably starting either this summer or next fall semester. Depends on too many issues for me to know if I am now or not, but it's teh current plan.

And the lucky college is? College of Dreams, er, College of DuPage, a community college in Naperville. They don't offer BAs or anything, but that's not what I'm after at this point in time. It's a good, cheap school where I can take some basic classes, and have some fun along the way, while also preparing for more in the future.

After high school, in Fall 2006 I'm going to take courses at Montgomery County Community College and take courses in Elementary Education. After a year or so, I'm going to try and transfer from Community College over to Kutztown University and finish my education there, in order to earn my bachelor's degree.

I applied and got accepted to one college: UMASS Amherst. If I didn't get in, I would have applied to three others: Skidmore, Clark University, and UNH

PS: sakura, I'm going into Elementary Education too!

Since I was to laze to apply for any scholarships when I was a senior, I took my basic classes at a small college. I am gonna make sure everything is transferable and then finish a ba at a large college. It is much cheaper at a community college then at a university.

Right smack in the middle of the Armpit of America. I warn you that there is nothing, NOTHING to do in Scranton. The best thing is to try and find your way out. I still have trouble with that one.

University of Pittsburgh
Indiana University of Pennsylvania
Penn State University
West Chester
and another one that I forgot.

I'll be taking the Mira route, yo.

After I graduate from high school I'll be enrolling in the local community college. Not being sure what I want to do, I figured I'd save some money and transfer somewhere later when I decide what I want to study. Or something.

Community colleges all the way, yo. Don't let people downplay them D: They are so awesome.

I should be close to finishing up my sophomore year but moving required me to learn a new language before admission... gah. Now a year behind. Not like it matters with college though.

Eh, I have heard mixed things about Tucson. My sister lives there and likes it a lot though.

I have officially sent in all my stuff now (applications, supporting documents, fees), and I should be hearing from places in a few months. I should have done early action to cut down waiting ;-;.

If you care to know, Scranton has a very good ROTC and Criminal Justice program, the fields that I will pursue. I took my tour of Scranton and personally liked the town.

Nice. Do you have an idea of which ROTC program you'll pursue? (Army ROTC, Air Force, Naval)

2006 holds something I didn't actually plan for. I thought I'd be starting my full time Navy career, after being a reserve for the last year. However, much to my dismay, thanks to the fantastic people in ADF Recruiting, I'll have to wait even longer. So having to wait again, I tried applying back at my University where I had deferred a Bachelors of Film and Television, but alas I was too late to sign up for this year. So they told me to do a course at their TAFE (Aussie Community College equivalent), of which I chose to do an Advanced Diploma of Public Relations since it'll help me with the community work I do. My theory was that either the Navy would get back to me on my full-time application some time in the year, or I'd go into my film course mid-year and just stay a general reserve in the Navy.

However, the University surprised the shit out of me by offering a deal whereas if I decide to finish the entire Advanced Diploma of PR, then they'd allow me to enter a Bachelors of Business Marketing with an advanced standing. It's an opportunity too good to pass up, so I've accepted it. On top of that, the Navy has stated that they'd contribute to the costs of the Advanced Diploma of PR since they're in dire need of PR Officers (a position only available to reservists) on the proviso that I become one when I finish the Diploma portion of the course. I'm so friggen stoked about the whole deal and I figure I can always do a Graduate Diploma in Film and Television after I finish the AdvDipPR and the BBus. Which, all up, the three courses will take me 5 years to complete.

* Naota does a happy dance. :icon_danc

Community colleges all the way, yo. Don't let people downplay them D: They are so awesome.I agree wholeheartedly. I took lots of classes at a couple of community colleges, and the teachers there cared even less whether I showed up for class than they did in the regular four-year schools I went to. It was great!

At one community college, the time I spent in class was about half of what I spent zapping aliens at the campus arcade or sitting in the rec lounge waiting to watch the sun set. The school was high on a hill, and they had a really nice view of San Francisco across the bay. The campus itself had a field of broken rocks next to the library. I thought the rocks were pretty cool, no kidding (and no, I wasn't under the influence of anything).
oh crap...did i just spam yet another thread...?

I decided on Oregon, sent in my deposit a couple weeks ago. Now I need to send them more money for housing and fill out a health history form.

Ducks eff tee dubya!

Edit: Going in as an English major, and I may do a concentration in creative writing. They also have a film certificate associated with the English program that could be fun to go for.

Hmm... this is a tough one.

Either start anew at San Jose City and work on Liberal Arts and Business Managment, go back to Mission College to work on my GED even though I got my diploma, or go to San Jose State and spend 1000 bucks for a 1 unit. The temptation is overwhelming.

Good Luck! A friend of mine is going to be attending University of Scranton also, I hear it's a good school.

Well for me, I took my placement tests for the courses I'm taking at Montgomery County Community College. If I didn't mention, I'm planning to transfer to Kutztown University after a year or two of community college.

Had I stayed in high school, I would be a senior now. I went to this "early college" deal instead, and it seems to have worked out pretty well, because my transfer options are hella fantastic. I applied to Smith, Barnard, Bard, New College of Florida, Notre Dame, Brown, Swarthmore, Dartmouth, and one or two others whose names currently escape me. So far I've gotten acceptances from Smith, Bard, and New College. I was rejected by Brown. Waiting to see what other colleges will accept me before I decide where I wanna go.

Life's being pretty sweet in 2006.

Swarthmore and Darmouth are pretty tough to transfer into, even from Simon's Rock (presuming that's where you went instead of High School). I did/do a lot of college admissions counseling, so I know how tough the top level admissions can be. :(

A little heads up cause i also applied for film and animation but got put on the waiting list, the class only accepts 46 freshman students and the was 500+ applicants who submitted for acceptence (i actually think it might have been higher but it was definately at least 3 times the amount of students the accept) so just keep your eye open for other schools with animation programs, meanwhile good luck with your last year of highschool and luck with filling out those college applications

You're not going to UR? I disown you.Yeah, well, Case's engineering department owns me now. :D

(Honestly, though, it was a very hard decision. In the end I decided that UR's mech engineering department of 25ish people per graduating class was too small for my tastes.)
