I now have Japanese manga in my school library and I think it's awesome. It's small in the catergory right now but it's expanding. Does your school have manga? Wouldn't it be great if it did?

To tell you the truth I think manga and comic books should be in schools more often. They are forms of literature and art, and part of storytelling in history. I think about some anime and manga and think if this were in schools people from the U.S. could learn a lot about Japanese culture and history.

I don't know if my school has manga in the library. I don't doubt it has dozens of books on manga and anime (I seem to recall no shortage when I was writing a report in first year) but as for manga itself...I'd have to check. I certainly don't see a problem with school's carrying manga and comics though.
While they never did while I was there, apparently my old high school now has quite a bit of manga in the library, which is good, since really only geeks check out the library for something besides school work...
Moving to Manga, where it belongs.

My school has a couple selves of manga… They only have really popular mangas or mangas you’ve never heard of. They have Ranma 1/2, Fruit Baskets, Record of Lodoss Wars, etc. Then they also have a bunch that I’ve never heard of or even ventured to read.

Wow, you guys that have manga in your schools are really lucky. My school is very behind in the times book-wise. We still have books that have been in our library since the 1950's...
I don't really mind that our school doesn't carry manga, since I'm a senior. Besides, I have the best portable manga libraries around. They're called my friends... ^_^
Well my school doesn't have a library really, since it's just a computer lab with the title of "Library", but my school is in conjunction with the library at the recreation center located beside the school which carries quite abit of manga, I think it has a bigger selection than the local Chapters(book store).

My high school sadly doesn't. Like ant said, I feel manga should be in the library. There are several manga series that are great examples of story telling and artistic styles.

My school library started last year getting manga donated by people, I think the books are only donated to the library and that they don't buy the manga themselves. There isn't much of a variety, but I haven't been in that library this year yet, so I'll have to find out if they had gotten any more books other than Peach Girl.
It's not a manga but they also have the comic book "Bone" as well in that category, I have to remember to bring my school ID to the library so a I can check it out^^

I bring manga to school from time to time...
My local free library, however, has a nice-sized collection.

My high school is against any sort of comics. They say it will just interrupt are studies, which really sucks. One kid did bring a manga and started reading it in class(during free time) and it was taken away until the 12th bell(end of school). It really was no fair, its like they don't believe in us.
But like Dennis said my local free library has a nice-sized collection.

Indeed you should, Bone is classic, really ^^
I glanced around the school library today and discovered that it does have quite a large graphica section, with some manga as well as comics. Including Hellblazer (YAY!) but no Preacher....*weeps*

My school doesnt and never will have manga in the library, because my school is dumb. It did have Yotsuba vol. 1 in a book fair for the elementary kids once when I checked, but that was it.
Ive gotten in trouble for bringing Azumanga Daioh to my school before. XD

I feel your pain. Got in trouble for the same thing once.
Book fairs at my old Middle school sold manga time to time. I picked up Rebound and Wolf's Rain there once.

We don't have a section like that at the university library, so no.
My high school didn't have any manga in the library either and I've obviously got no idea if it does now, so clearly I utterly fail at this thread.
I guess manga isn't popular enough over here to invade school libraries just yet. :/

(I love how you refer to me outside of our PM's!!!! hehehehe :cookie: for the boy)
anyways, the schools I go to (my high school doens't have a library for starters) don't carry Manga. *tear* I SO wish my college did, it would be fricking aweome, but they don't (yet... I should petition or something)
My local library doesn't even carry Manga (isn't that the saddest thing you've ever heard?) so if I want to read new manga, I have to go down to Barnes and Noble or Walden books and sit in the isles (I usually buy if I do that though... just to be nice hehehehe) but yeah neither my school nor my library carries it (that I know of) *continues to cry for free manga*

Get Bone the gods of comics demand it. Seriously, Bone is incredible, even more so if your school sprang for the complete Bone collection (like 100 bucks, but oh so excellent). Also, if they have it (cause if they have Bone, they might), pick up Blankets, so good.
For the record, my school (university) doesn't have manga except at the book store, and even then it's only clamp crap. Oh, and as much as I love manga, comics > manga.

Yeah true true. But to tell you the truth I've really never thought about looking in my (college) school library. I'm gonna check tomorrow tho. I don't think that my old high school carries Mangas or any other form of comics since the high school was very big on carrying what they thought was proper and educating book material's like dictionary's and maps. They didn't even carry magazines that's how strict they are! Sheez. They sure could learn alot about Japanese culture by picking up a manga and reading it. I really did. :)
(How's that for feedback?! O_o I'm getting better!!) :smash: :bik:

Our local public library, however, has a pretty decent collection of manga. What I like about the library is that they don't carry a lot of the SUPER POPULAR manga (Like Fullmetal Alchemist and such. They do have two volumes of Fruits Basket and about ten volumes of Inu-Yasha, though.) They tend to carry manga and manwha that isn't that popular. (Take The Queen's Knight, for example. Most people haven't even heard of this manwha.)

good luck~ hey u ought to publish it as to open the minds of our libriarians! ^^ i toured the lib lately, and i dont think they have manga or comics. the administration seems to believe that its not proper 'library' materials that one would usually stock. shame, it would have attracted more people to use the library and read for a change instead of using it as their personal hammock..

I remember my friend checking it out a year or two ago, and I'm pretty sure that it was the complete Bone collection. They also have Bone at WaldenBooks and Borders for only $30 last time I checked...I used to read Bone all the time when it was in Disney Adventure magazine when I was like 10 years old.
And CLAMP isn't a bad manga artist group, overrated yes, though not horrible.
To stay on topic, a public library close by doesn't have any manga titles, though my highschool does. I'd expect a public library to actually have at least something.

I happen to agree, CLAMP gets a little too much fanfare, but they're by no means horrible. I do think their art is better than their storytelling though. I'm still annoyed they haven't finished X/1999. Grrr....
I'm trying to remember if my High School had any manga. I'm thinking...not. Then again my school library only a single shelf for fiction books, so I'm not really surprised.

Thank you very much! (I'm working on it now hehehehe) you know, maybe if my school like accepts it and changes some of their course stuff, maybe I'll submit it to my local library too and see if they'll get some.... (I'm really excited now! Although, I have to wait a while because our local library is closed for renivations >.> it'll be a year.....) but yeah thanks again! I hope it does well too!!!!

You guys are really lucky to have manga in your school. But, it kinda would be distracting to me though, so my feelings are mixed.

Yes, most people in my old high school believed manga = devil worship. So, of course I was riddiculed. And our library would rather purchase porn than manga.

my high school payed me 5 dollars per manga to give them manga's i didn't want anymore. i gave them my FLCL number one and a few volumes of Oh my Goddess. fu fu, my collage doesn't have any, but then again i have found one other anime fan in the dorms. and a few comuters...so there would be no point.

There isn't any manga in my school library, unfortunately. I did go and check out the public library on my way to and fro school and found a meagre collection of different kinds of graphic novels. Nevertheless, I did find one of the most amazing manga I've ever read (Osamu Tezuka's Phoenix: Karma) and volume 2 of PLANETES. Not bad for someone who was expecting practically no manga at all apart from that lone volume of Black Jack I spied from about... three yeras ago. n.n;
