What is the best game that you have every played? why?

I have several games. Super Mario 64 certainly takes the cake. It totally revolutionized 3D gaming, and was the most fun platformer that I've played.

I've also gotta include Goldeneye 64, Halo, Halo 2 (yeah, Halo 2 grew on me again. Only the multiplayer though), Metal Gear Solid, Sonic 2, Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, Klonoa, FF7, Phantasy Star Online and Mariokart 64. Great memories from all of them.

Still, this type of thread has been done so many times. I suggest that you do a search next time. This thread will probably almost be closed immediately.

Well seeing that this is going to most likely be closed, i am gonna say my favorite game that i have ever played was Final Fantasy 10, reason being is because the story line was perfect and the characters had alot of great characteristcs, also i love the BLITZBALL!

I don't know, I found FF X to have one of the weaker plots and some of the weaker characters, but that's only my opinion. Besides, I like FF IX the best, so I'm a bit of a philistine ^^()

My favourite game? Um...Some of the Naruto Fighting Games, Smash Bros...basically a lot of the ones where you can play with a lot of friends.

I remember the Lion King game for Sega was awesome... I really liked that one, but I'd have to say like my all time favourite game is either Project Gotham 2 or Knights of the Old republic (I still need to buy the second one) Halo and Fable are highish on my list too, but I have the most fun playing PG2 probably

Best and favourite are two seperate things.

My favourite game is Midnight Club 3. Quite a lot of fun to play, and I enjoy being able to kick ass. Unfortnately I lost the disc =\

The best game I've ever played is probably something like Ninja Gaiden or something. I mean, it's a great game in every aspect you can think of, but it's just not my thing. =/

I don't play many games, though my favorite (of course, to probably no surprise) is Kingdom Hearts. I like the main character, the story, cutscenes and the fighting. Plus I've always loved Disney, so the Kingdom Hearts franchise at the moment is my favorite.

Gameplay, story, art, sound, and replayability. Fortunately for your case, it has all of those too. So I guess you've lucked out this time.

Kratos could be new character of the year -- if not for a crippling lack of likability.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, best in the series, best gameplay, best music.

Probably, in terms of sheer fun and replayability...Chrono Trigger. It introduced me to the wonders of the console RPG and has yet to be really topped by any other game. Sure, there are games I play a lot more nowadays, but really, if I had to choose my all time favorite game, it would be Chrono Trigger. Because nothing really comes close to it.

Funny I thought you favorite game would of been drinking contest. Looks like I'm mistaken.XD

FF4, for some reason I really like. Second choice, the Sonic games for sega, me and my cousin use to stay up for hours playing those games. I also like Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life(look at the sig), addictive, fun and addictive(love it).

Drinking games and games you play while you drink are totally different. Take Halo for instance, you can play it while drinking, but that doesn't make it a drinking game. It does, however, increase the difficulty level. :D

Anyways, my favorite games are FFVII, Chrono Trigger, and Halo 2.

I gotcha too but it could become a drinking game, for exa.(using Halo) every time you pass a level you have to drink a whole bottle of beer(or your fave alcohol) and whoever drinks the most or passes out first wins.

Hey, I made a new game I'll call it Stupid....perfect. Now someone come play my game and see if it works(if you die not my fault).XD

Starcraft: Expansion

You can play it competitively (meet the freaks on the internet). Great with korean friends for pure fun. Also for newbies, campaign has a story that is not too bad for a rts game. And it comes with a map editor for different styles (although warcraft rapes it in terms of map editor).

Too bad I suck at it like 50% of my friends :/

I can't really think of an overall fave game, but i can split it into genres.

Puzzle- Tetris Attack (addictive as hell but cool)
RPG- Tales of Symphonia (great story, characters and no random battles)
Adventure- Super Metriod/Metroid Prime 2 (super Metriod- one of the finest games ever made, Metriod Prime 2- follows the winning formula of the orginal)
Shooter- Timesplitters 3 (so many characters, crazy/fun challangers and a improved story mode over TS2)
Driving- Mario Kart 64 (the multiplayer races)
Platform-Yoshi's Island/ Donkey Kong Country 2 or 3 (hard, but you feel brilliant when you complete them)

Sonic The Hedgehog 2
I remember spending many a Saturaday morning playing this game till my eyes bled. The idea of playing as a blue hedgehog fascinated me and I even dressed up as him for Halloween.:D I still take out my Sega Genesis to play that game.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time
After Sonic came Zelda. I played this game obsessively. Music, scenery, characters, and gameplay were all great. One of a few games that I enjoy playing several times after I've beaten it.

I may have said somthing different in the past but this game is by far my most favorite as of right now. Socom Fire Team Bravo for the PSP is incredible, Gameplay at first was a little hard to get a hold on but it works on you, then theres the infastucture, which is the wi fi connection, with no doubt this game is one of my favorites.

My favourite game is the best video game of all-time, the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. This has to be the most breath-taking game I've ever layed eyes on. The animation is great, even as of now. The storyline & characters are both charming & deep at the same time. This is a game I could play over and over... and over and over. It's that good.

My current favourite game would have to be The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I've sunk over 150 hours into this puppy and I haven't gotten enough.

Other games in my all time favourites list include just about any of the SCUMM games released by Lucasarts back in the day, before they decided the puzzle/adventure was dead and buried, like the Monkey Island Series, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max Hit the Road etc. I also really liked the Legend of Kyrandia games. Finished the first, and got close to finishing the second, but as does happens in these games I made a mistake I needed to backtrack quite a ways to rectify, and then lost the discs. But these games do have a limited replayability to them.

Another of my all time favourites is IL2 Sturmovik: Ultimate complete edition, containing more flyabel WWII fighters and bombers you can poke a stick at in just about every theatre of WWII, it is a must for flight sim maniacs.

And finally, thought I haven't gotten my hands on the retail version yet, the Red Orchestra mod for UT2004 ranks among my favourite shooters.

Metal gear Solid 2: Substance It has Solid snake in it. But not only does it have one of the greatest video game characters of all time, it has my personal favorite, Raiden. The graphics are beautiful, story, of course amazing (cmon, its metal gear) controls are great. I give it a 10 out of 10.

Agreed. Going on, what eight years now? That's how long it's been my favorite. Oh, it's come close sometimes. Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete. Tales of Symphonia. Metroid Prime. But even with all its faults and outdated . . . ness, it never fails to entertain me.

I don't really have one specific fave, but these are a few:
1. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
This a true classic. It had an awesome story, great graphics (despite how old the game is), and good music. Plus, the combat and puzzles were really fun.

2. Gran Turismo 4
As the game's subtitle says, The Real Driving Simulator. It excels both in graphics and the realistic physics.

3. God of War
Best combat ever!!! I actually got a 500+ hit combo =)Plus, Kratos has to be one of the best game heroes I've ever played as. I only wish that this game was a little longer.

4. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Biggest game world ever. Most stuff to do ever. The shooting has been improved over Vice City so I'm not locking onto the wrong guy every so often, and CJ can swim, whereas Tommy Vercetti would automatically drown when he enters the water.

5. Resident Evil 4
This has to be the best looking Gamecube game. Also, I really like the over-the-shoulder type shooting this game has. Also, it tries to be unique (and succeeds) by preventing you from running and gunning at the same time. Once again, I wish it was a little longer. Also, I wish the voices were better.

KATAMARI DAMACY----- greatest puzzle, arcade game EVER!!!!!! its so stonerific and completely addicting it hurts to put it away at 3 in the morning after u've just emptied the entire asian coast of JAPAN and its outlying islands

GUN----- short yes but nevertheless a good stress reliever (no were near GTA but hey its western) it also comes complete with dynamite tipped arrows, fun for shooting into a crowd, a shotgun that shoots cannonballs, and plenty of indians, bandits, and poor innocent bystanders to blow to bloody chuhnks

my fav games are guilty gear x2, street fighter 3rd strike. suikoden 3, and psychonauts , zelda OOT

GGx2 and st3 are the best fighters out there, they are both really deep, and you can play them for years and years and still learn new things. suikoden 3 is my fav rpg, i love the stroyline, the cast of characters and the battle system, and pyschonauts has to be the best platforming game i have played in many, many years, its so differnent, and the story is so wacky and out there, you cant help but to fall in love with it. zelda OOT stands alone as one of the best games ever made, the boss battles are a rush that most games dont provide these days, and even the simplest things in the game like riding a horse are tons of fun.

Doom III

How did I forget Doom III? I suppose because I finished ages ago, and my friends have never realy been bothered to play the co-op mod I got for it....

I have heard that more than a few people ratted on Doom III, for reasons I'm not exactly sure of. It is a system hog, for sure, but I was completely captivated by the game.

The first Doom games were adrenaline pumping shotgun action fests, it tapped into the more 'I have a Baron of Hell over there and 12 shell left' aspect of fear. However, the third game used the psychological aspects of fear to create the atmosphere, using techniques from the likes of System Shock (the emails and stuff), and the very well placed monsters to create the effect.

I suppose if people were expecting to have another run of shotgun goodness, they would have been disapointed.

Fallout!

In my opinion the single greatest game ever made. There aren't any mystical elves, sword fighting pretty boys, 500 year old wizards or heroic knights from a far off land. It's part The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and part Road Warrior. You mix in one of the coolest settings in a game, incredible story, great pop cultural references, awesome open ended gameplay, a character building interface that's second to none, the best sense of humor ever in any game ever, not to mention a game that's just loads of fun to play and it makes for a winner.

You're not some styled up guy using a sword to cut down a unicorn, your one grizzeled up, anger guy using shotguns, brass knucles and machine guns to cut in half biker raidors and supersized mutants using chainguns. Fallout is the pinnacle of games for me.

I do just want to give a side note to Super Mario Kart. That's my second favorite and I have to mention it.

Starsiege: Tribes. The best multiplayer FPS I've ever played. No mods, none of that renegades or shifter crap. The absolute best feeling was using a heavy armor to cap their flag. After raping their base, of course.

About Doom III, they tried way too hard to make it scary and suspenseful. I mean really, you can't use the light and a weapon at the same time? The countless scripted monsters that jump out at your from the floor or ceiling or wall were just annoying.

To me, Doom III was terrifying not because of the regular switching between guns and the torchlight, but more on the realistically detailed creatures and the idea that you're all alone in a extraterrestial land...

... plus the whole devilish thing that went on (not to mention the synonymous bloodshed involved). The deafening sounds unique to each creature and incredible details paid to the overall surrounding environment, plus the sick feeling you had in your stomach when you first played it in an unlit room - these are the factors that made Doom III a groundbreaking hit among gamers.

Holy sh*t, talking about Blizzard games, how could I ever forget about the original Diablo :kain: ...! Back during the mid-90s, it was one of the best PC role-playing games ever. Now when you look back in retrospect, the game may be as boring as watching your lawn growing grass, but back then, it was the talk of the town.

The idea of buying & selling weapons and potions, strategically singling or slugging out underworld bast*rds, and revealing stories were the factors that led to its success, followed up by its successor, Diablo II. Man, those were the days...

I finally got a go at the retail version of Red Orchestra, that mod for UT2004. Entitled Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45, I must say that this game is now my favourite WWII shooter. Beats the pants off of Call of Duty, BF1942 and such.

Being a realism game (note, not a simulator), it may not be everyones cup of tea, for for a guy who hates seeing shotguns on the Eastern Front and StG44's assaulting Moscow, it's an absolute dream.

I haven't replied to this thread in a while, so I'll list some other favourite games that I either forgot from my last post, or have discovered:

DDR (Namely DDR Ultramix 3 and DDR Extreme 2) - An amazing game of hand/feet coordination. It requires good reflex skills, skills on judging the beat of the songs, and stamina. And it makes you feel less like a fatso when you play. Genius! Most of the songs are great (or at least playable) too.

Starfox 64 (N64) - Classic on-rails spaceship shooter. It puts those old 2D ones to shame for me. Simply fun, and it takes skill to rack up as many kills as you can).

Soul Calibur (on DC) - I feel like the previous installments havent offered up much different content than the first game, so I'm listing this one, as it felt the most new to me when I played it. It takes a lot of skill to get very good with, and no matter which fighter you choose, you basically have a chance as long as you are good with them.

Diddy Kong Racing (N64) - My alternative to Mariokart 64. A great race mode, and some pretty fun battle challenges. Hovercrafts rule.

Shadow of the Collosus (PS2) - Simply genius. It's simple gameplay on a grand scale, with truly imaginative puzzles. The bosses are puzzles in their own, and good ones at that. My favourite moment in this game was fighting the very last boss with my "Get Ready to Die" music on by Andrew Wk. Especially because of what happens in the cutscene before the boss. And the ending was breathtaking.

I guess I was wrong that this thread would close soon.

Ditto. I think Halo's overrated too. Halo 2 had nice multiplayer, but that was it. Also no one ever seems to bother with either of the Halos' campaigns.

Currently, two games have been taking all my free time, by and large:

Online: Kingdom of Loathing (www.kingdomofloathing.com). It's a silly little php game that has surprising depth and addictiveness. Think a slightly updated Nethack/Zork.

Offline/Console: Ouendan. Difficulty on the level of Super Contra, but it's actually beatable with practice. Addictive music and simple-yet-elegant gameplay. Hands down the best DS game out there. Plus, it's just so over the top ridiculous.

EDIT:

Some all time favorites:
Civilization II: Strategy perfected.
Gitaroo Man: one of the most goddamn fun little things to ever get ignored stateside.

By far my favorite game of all time was Prince of Persia on the SNES. Fantastic on so many levels. A fun puzzle like game that never got old in my mind... until I beat it 4 times....

Disgaea
(pretend you didn't see that coming)

I loved the characters, art, story, script, music, and, of course, the actual game itself.

Disgaea 2 beat it.

Disgaea 2 took Disgaea and built upon it so excellently.
Also I don't suck at Disgaea 2.

yeah, I was terrible at the original, no one ever got passed lvl 80 and my people were weak XD
Well atleast I've seen a few endings.

But in Disgaea 2 I'm gonna make up for my short comings in the original!

So yeah, Disgaea 2 is my favorite game.

Recently I started playing Final Fantasy 11, the game is incredable.
So I would have to say FF11 is my favorite game of all time.
Dead or Alive 4 was in there two but FF beat it.
Its on the PS2, xbox360,and the PC.

I don't know Saya, D2 is a fun game but it's story can't compare to D1, but well it's not as tough as D1 early in, plus well it's far to easy to get a level 600 catgirl in a matter of minutes :p

Great game but better then D1? Not so much with me.

Anyway Favorite three

1.Tetris
2. Sonic cd
3. Metroid prime

I'm bored.

Nintendo - Mega Man 3: behold, Mega Man can slide! lol! Seriously, the Mega Man games were the way to go NES-wise, and the third had my favorite bosses and levels, all there is to it. Plus, the control of the Rush accessories was well done. And I shouldn't forget the cool tunes!

Sega Genesis - Rocket Knight Adventures/Sparkster: they were all part of the same series (even got the SNES version of Sparkster, which was a completely different game from the Genesis one), and the usage of the rocket pack was very effective. The bosses were hard, the gameplay involved rocket skills, and there was much personality. Are there any games these days that let you play around with a rocket pack? The closest game I've played was Gunvalkyrie for Xbox, but even then we're talking about a hardsuit...

Super Nintendo - Final Fantasy 6: probably my favorite Final Fantasy, it had the largest cast, and the most open story. It felt like you could go anywhere, and there were countless secrets to top it off, and thankfully Squaresoft would keep this trend going with most of the FF games...

Sega Saturn - Panzer Dragoon Saga: not only is the fighting system inspired with an arcade touch, you also get to explore the intricate world Dragoon holds, and immerse yourself in a story that truly shows why this series was such a big deal back in its day. Better hit ebay (got mine for $160)

Panasonic 3DO - Killing Time: I could slap on Lucienne's Quest, Super Street Fighter II Turbo (we did own it for 3DO, weird isn't it?), or even Gex. But Killing Time's impact on me was unique, it's creepy as heck (alongside its appearances of ghosts that act out events in the household, and some even tell you stories), but it's rather easy to get lost in the manor's risque turns. Just watch out for the clowns...

Sony Playstation - Grandia: my favorite rpg, the characters were charming, and the fighting system was loads of fun. I couldn't think of a more worthwhile experience for its time, but that's just my opinion. I should also mention I loved the first two Jumping Flash games while I'm at it, since those make good honorable mentions.

Nintendo 64 - Ogre Battle 64: probably my favorite strategy game alongside the Saturn's Dragon Force. I loved the way you could take over villages and visit them for secrets. The different army variations and excellent storyline separate it from most of its genre titles.

Sega Dreamcast - Bangaio: Treasure is probably my favorite developer, I loved Gunstar Heroes and Dynamite Headdy for Genesis, though they were only minutely beaten by the games mentioned above. Bangaio is the craziest game they've ever made, with a need for you to counteract insane quantities of bullets, and make sure you know how to freakin' find yourself in that mess. Plus, the story lovingly makes no sense (bravo!).

Playstation 2 - (don't own one, but I've played a few good ones) probably Gradius V: I love shooters, and this version of Gradius is among the best/hardest to play, it's still nice to see an appreciation for such games on the system (also had an R Type game too!).

Xbox - Panzer Dragoon Orta: this game was my first Xbox experience, and it still makes a great representation for the series. The levels are lushly improved, the gameplay has become more advanced (you can level up your dragon, and fly around bosses!), and the story is really cool for a shooter. Too bad nobody really bought it...and yes I've played Halo and Ninja Gaiden, I just connected best with Orta for the overall experience.

Gamecube - Resident Evil: I loved the remake of the original when it came out, not only did I like the original a lot when it was released, but seeing my favorite location for horror remade to look modern: I couldn't help but be ecstatic. True, the fourth RE is probably the best made, but my personal opinion states I was truly a fan of the first one so don't get me wrong there.

Xbox 360 (momentarily) - Dead or Alive 4: Oblivion and Dead Rising made great next-gen experiences for me (I was seriously addicted to those two), but DOA 4 is still the game I turn back to most (next to Ridge Racer 6) for overall playability. DOA 4 improves on the gameplay of past incarnations, and adds more features aside from that, including an excellent online mode! Leave it to Team Ninja to add games that flaunt your system's prowess!

Nintendo DS - Kirby's Canvas Curse: this and Trauma Center were duking it out, but Kirby wins simply out of my past affinity for the little guy (Kirby's Adventure anyone?), and the game made a great way to continue the franchise by letting you guide Kirby with your stylus. "Nice touch" indeed.

I can't say there is a best among the lists of games that I have played. But a game that I have enjoyed immensely would be Xenosaga 3. I do hope they make more of it, because I really like that series.

I've been rediscovering my love for BattleTech stuff recently. Of the games I have played, I would have to say MechWarrior 3 is the epitome of MechWarrior games to date. I'd have to say that it plays better, and looks better than MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries, not only that, I reckon it could still hold pace with some of the newer stuff, which is pretty good for a 7 year old game. But moer on that when I finish these games.

So MechWarrior 3 is my favourite big mech/futuristic simulator to date.

Uh, let's see... so far, the only game that got me glued to the screen is Doom III. Perhaps, it's because it's the first game that I really had the creeps while playing dead early in the morning with my headphones on and the lights switched off. Seriously, I wet myself when I first played the game 0.0

I know exactly what you mean. I have since vowed NEVER to play Doom III, F.E.A.R and it's upcoming expansion, Extraction Point just before I go to bed. I had trouble going to sleep during the time I was playing those......perhaps a sign of how effective they are?

Oh, I shouldn't forget about Fatal Frame 2 as well. I don't know why, but the game appeals to me very much, probably because of my "fetish" with helpless girls stuck in haunted places, armed with only a camera. Plus, playing it feels like you're watching a horror Japanese movie too. Moreover, it's also definitely not a game to be played in the early morning... no need for clarifications :bnono:

So yeah, I'm kinda tied with Doom III and Fatal Frame 2, but Doom III nicks it due to the strategic aspect that I love so much.

That's cool, I have all three of the Fatal Frame games, and I can honestly say the second one was my favorite as well. The aspect of twins being used for a scare factor is always welcome, and it's in a village instead of a house.

Plus I just love the addicting camera gameplay, alongside the fact that ghosts aren't stupid enough to blindly walk in front of you like zombies. Of course, I still do love Resident Evil when I say this, but I'm just stating how nice it is to see a game that has ghosts instead of zombies.

Pfft, the First Fatal Frame is so much better than the other 2 >_>;;;

In any event....

Super Nintendo: 3-way tie >>; Sailormoon: Another Story. Cheesy little RPG, but a lot of fun, and actually rather challenging. Plus, it's got a whole bunch of sound clips from the anime, and you have Kotono Mitsuishi yelling "Make UP!" everytime you fight a random moster battle, and of course, all the attacks. Next would be the original, Japanese Clocktower, a short but incredibly fun game, and trying to get all the different endings does make the game last a lot longer. Last favourite game would be Crono Trigger, a good, if obvious, answer. All of these games I've replayed quite a bit, and I still go back to them ^_^
Sega Genesis: Sonic 2, probably not as good as it's progeny, but it has more sentimental value to me than the others do. The first game I ever actually beat on my own.
GameBoy: The original Pokemon games = <3
Nintendo 64: Super Smash Brothers, a hell of a lot of fun, and, to date, really the only fighting game where I've bothered learning the controls for my main character >>; Kirby <3
GBA: The Golden Sun series, an incredible RPG set, with a long play length and a lot of challenge, all the moreso because it's on a portable system. I'm still hoping for a third. Fire Emblem (or Fire Emblem 7, if you count it the Japanese way) is a very, very close runner-up.
Playstation: Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete. This and the first Fatal Frame are constantly jockeying for position of my number one favourite spot at all times. Lunar 2 was a lot of firsts for me: the first videogame I ever bought with my own money; the first video game I spent more than a half hour or so playing at a single time; the first video game I immediately wanted to replay afterwards to see what I had missed; the first game I got in trouble for staying up late to play, for eating lunch while I play. It's a great game that a lot of fun, and has a good length to boot. Another incarnation of it would be nice.
Playstation 2: Fatal Frame, as I said above, one of my top tier favourite games. I could rant about it for a while, or you could just read my review over at Anime Secrets (http://www.animesecrets.org/games/fatalframe1/fatalframe1.html). I also have a review of the 2nd game up there, if you wanted to see why I prefer the first game to the second.
DS: Ossu! Tatake! Ouendan! for sheer awesomeness value. It's not often I can play a game written in an entirely different language, and not only beat a fair amount of it ("Ready Steady Go!" on Hard Mode still foils me), but also spend a lot of time laughing and singing along.

I think that's all for now...

Super Mario World 4; Yoshi!
The Mortal Kombat series; even if you suck at the game, it's still entertaining

Fatal Frame II; good memories...

PS
Spyro and Crash Bandicoot all the way
Why, yes of course... How could I forget the fun hours and days I spent trying to complete Spyro and Crash Bandicoot? Both games were the highlight of my early childhood years... with so many minigames, I found it hard to get bored of them... Ripper Roo all the way!!!

FF Tactics Advanced; Double sword: equip Excalibur 2 + Nagrorok>> Strikeback>> overkill

That too!!! I loved this game greatly because of the infinite possible character combinations... My favorite was my ultimate defence paladin w/ blue magic... hehe... Mighty Guard, Weapon Defence +, and Damage>MP... The formula for ulimate defence...

Hmmm...tough choice. Of the Final Fantasy games, of which I am a huge fan, I'd have to put Final Fantasy III/VI as my favorite of the series and one of my favorite games of all time. Shadow of the Colossus is up there pretty high as well, as is Guilty Gear XX. However, if I were forced to pick one game as my absolute favorite game I've ever played, I would really have to go with Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete. I just love that game so much.
