I was wondering if anyone knows if it's going to be subtitled and left in Japanese or dubbed into English??

wow, 2 years ago. not bad XD. the trailer said it would be released september 13 in the US and 14 in japan, simultaneously. for anyone who doesn't understand time zone differences, well then... yeah, self-explanatory
It is gonna be released soon!!! I have checked the source and shadothemur is right.
Anyway, Syner is right, we have waited long enough for this OAV to hit the tow already. October is too long though it is just 2 months away :p

You do know it is a movie and not an OVA, right?
Frankly, I wish it would never come out I'm sick of FFVII fanboys ranting about how great a mediocre game and this cash-in of a movie is only going to make them louder.

Look on the bright side: If the movie turns out to be a big flop and no one watches it, it'll be a while before Square decides to make any other movie or show. They already lost millions on the FF movie, even though its pre-release hype and anticipation attracted everyone.

come to think of it, this ff movie might just be a flop after all. i mean you basically settle all the issues cloud has at the end of the game, and how great are the characters, really? other than vincent and maybe sephiroth, the characters are pretty... i won't say stereotypical, but archetypal.
...ok, they're pretty damn stereotypical (maybe even vincent in this case). the ending may have been pretty open, but were there so few questions that they would have to make a movie? oh yeah, i forgot. that's why they're making those gorgeously-designed characters with the smooth silky hair, who happen to be the bad guys. there have been rumors that you didn't need to play the game to enjoy the movie. that may be true, seeing as how this is simply eye-candy coming out during the same crazed movie-game season as SE's next FF game, Dirge of Cerberus. which brings me to another question: why are ALL the characters in the movie? besides the obvious "eye-candy" excuse/reason. damn SE should learn to make better stories. i heard everything after FF8 sucked =\...
in short, i'm confused as to how to feel about this movie. DoC i might enjoy if only i had a ps2.

You really heard everything after FF8 sucked...? That's too bad cuz I thought FF9 and 10 were awesome but that's just my opinion. Care to throw something back at me if you wish~... \(._.)7

I would say FF7 & FF8 were better than FF9, FF10, & everything since. They didn't suck. They were still very good mind you, but to me it just wasn't the same as 7 & 8. If this movie does well enough though, I think that this would help give Square-Enix the added push to remake FF7 for the PS3 & remakes of 8, 9, & 10 wouldn't be bad either or far behind. I still think it would be cool to see a Kingdom Hearts movie, but then again it probably wouldn't be to great. But you have to be optimistic & open minded about these sort of things. So don't just close your mind to it already, give the movie a chance.

are u guys sure its not coming out to theaters... thats the impression I got from the preview on steamboy and if it is dubbed it is usually done realy well on animation so it shouldn't absolutely suck.... but that is all just prayers

Actually, the dub was far from perfect. It is like the dub of Berserk; the voices match, but the lip synch sucks... Except for the graphics boosted cut scenes.

It'll be cool to see FF VII both subbed and dubbed, though my question is when it's dubbed of who the voices will be for each of the characters. They used voices for Cloud, Aerith, and Yuffie in Kingdom Hearts though I highly doubt the same voices will be used.
Well they showed it at the Venice Film Festival and gave it a 9/10, and imdb has a review for it and they gave it a 9/10.
Edit:IMDB (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0385700/)
I rarely trust one festival/critic/review panel alone to weave an intelligent and overall in-depth look at any film. As for imdb, the majority of those votes are likely users who've never seen the film (and believe that watching trailers a thousand times over qualifies as such). Frankly, never count on the masses as an index to whether a film is good on all levels (or even on a single level, for that matter).

Besides, howmany times have "the Masses" said good things about a sucky movie?

...I'm surprised you can actually grade anything before you actually see it. Considering that the movie is not out yet, I'll say those were some die hard FF fans who go "OMFG FF IS TEH ROXXORS." I believe the Venice Film Festival version of Advent's Children was only an extended preview showing the first thirty minutes or so of the film.

Ahem...no. Just...just...no. Lulu, Rikku, and Auron were spot-on. That's it. period. Tidus was annoying, Yuna spoke in a nonstop nasal monotone, Kimahri had NO lines whatsoever, Wakka sounded stoned no matter WHAT he was saying, Seymour sounded like Spawn Michael Jackson and Winnie the Pooh On Drugs, and the less said about all of the minor character's voices, the better.
I believe the Venice Film Festival version of Advent's Children was only an extended preview showing the first thirty minutes or so of the film.
Actually, from what I heard, the film was originally going to only be a half-hour long OVA, which is why its slated to come out two years ago, as Lavi so eloquently put it. However, they realized that A. the graphics weren't QUITE pretty enough for rabid fanboys to REALLY start fapping and B. the story was too complicated for a half-hour OVA so they slapped an extra hour on and prettied up the graphics. Yeah, because we all know everyone is going to pay attention to the plot.
Frankly, I think its going to be empty eyecandy, but I can put up with that. I mean, its certainly TASTY enough eyecandy.

I dunno, I kinda liked "The Spirits Within"
To be honest, I never beat FF7, so I don't know what happens at the end of it. I'm still looking forward to the movie though, if for no other reason than to rot out my eyes with all the eyecandy.

I think it's firmly in the 'eyecandy' category. I still liked it though. And the answer to the question is always subbed.

That's your opinion. Not a fact. Get over yourself and your purist beliefs and stop telling everyone they should watch your foreign language tracks where you have to read dialogue. Some of us prefer dubs, and we don't need some random forum member telling us how we should watch anime just because he's stuck in the late '90s and refuses to acknowledge dubs.
Oh, and you guys do realize you just bumped a year-old thread, right?

I thought Advent Children (and Final Fantasy VII in general) was largely bollocks, but from the clips available on a certain video website everyone knows of, George Newbern absolutely owns as Sephiroth. If I ever had to sit through that vacant, soulless mess of eye candy again, it'd be dubbed.

Haha, I love it. Have you read the thread title? The starter was obviously looking for opinions. My opinion is that subs are (almost) always better. That is all. No need to get cranky ok?

Subbed. I love subbed stuff. Asian voices sound different from Western ones. And I loved the FF movies (yes, even Spirits Within), and I don't care what others say.

Yeah, this thread is like several months old... I don't know who brought it up. XD
But if everyone would like to keep responding to this then it's fine by me. And we can all get along, right? No need to argue about the language. Just state which you preferred best, that's all.

I dont think this is not the way to state an opinion. To me, it makes it sound like you believe it to be fact. You could've said, "If you ask me, I'll always take it subbed," or something less arrogant. But hey, that's just my opinion. ;)

i've gotten used with subs, so i'll go for subs on this one. i find it at an advantage since i'm not familiar with the FF franchise. reading helps me cope up with the information.

I don't think using double negatives is not the proper way to express an opinion.
Yes, I know, many people feel it is necessary to bung 'in my opinion, if you ask me, some people think....' in front of everything they say, but I'm not one of them. I assume the reader can infer that what I just said is an opinion, when it is in the context of something as obviously opinionated and subjective as a value judgement regarding anime soundtracks. I'm not a fan of obfuscation or redundancy. And just for practice and clarity, here is my opinion restated.
Anime is almost ALWAYS better subtitled. In fact, watching any sort of video-based media in its native language is the only proper and acceptable way to view it.

I agree with you to some extent, but isn't that going a litte too far saying that it is the ONLY PROPER and ACCEPTABLE way to view it...? For the people who don't like subbed stuff I don't blame 'em - maybe it's because they don't wanna read. Lazy people. >_>
Um, just because some of us prefer to watch anime in our native language instead of reading it doesn't mean we're lazy, thank you very much. How dare you even say that.
Well, the guy I was quoting said that was the only proper and acceptable way of watching them. I was just trying to make a point. And okay, everyone who watches dubbed anime are not ALL lazy but I know some are.
