View Full Version : Naruto
I'm a newbie and all, but I'd like to ask how many other people out there like Naruto the anime? I think it's the best thing to come out since soap, lol just kidding, but yea, what do you think of Naruto?

Well tip to naruto fans here at AA, people will call you a narutard. Anyways, i am a fan of it. Althought it may not be my favorite anymore, its still something im looking forward to completing. (this thread may get closed)

It's just...Naruto. Good for fights, occasionally interesting plot twists and some great characters - it's a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine, the anime equivalent of a cheesy Hollywood blockbuster: far and away from being a masterpiece but watchable all the same.

PS: Sig is to big I thinkNot to mention the DRAMA in it. Change it or GTFO.
On topic: I stopped watching it after it got licensed. It's continual appearance of more and more DBZ-ish traits in its fights and plot just got too much for my patience to bear.

Well it's battle-scenes are slow, but they're somewhat enjoyable. The characters on the other hand are very well done compared to standard shounen fighting anime, which is the thing that keeps it interesting along with the plot. The series has been going on with mainly fighting for a while now, I hope they'll switch to the actual storyline of the manga soon, and that the actual story line will have stronger focus on characters. Also, the plot is usually very good when it actually is there (meaning when they're not fighting those overly slow-paced battles).
And I just have to complain about the current arc which (in my opinion at least) is probably the worst so far. The first filler arc they made was of ok'ish quality, but now it seems they're completely lost when they'd have to go out and do an arc of their own, instead of getting the stuff from the manga. Raijin and Fujin and probably the most boring characters in the entire anime.

The current arc is all filler. So far, they've caught up too close to the manga. Right after the Naruto vs Sasuke fight in the manga, the whole anime skips ahead 2 years, to the manga arc they are in now, which is not yet completed. That's why the anime is producing filler, since they can't start the next arc yet. So just be patient. The next arc is a whole lot better than this one.
Naruto's alright. I really did think it was an awesome show when I first started watching it, but it's gotten a little reptitive. Not DBZ repetitive. More like almost Inuyasha repetitive. But I still enjoy it, and will complete watching the series.

Am I a Naruto fan? Look at my sig and avatar...
Actually i'm not that big of a Naruto fan. I just think Itachi is one of the coolest anime characters I have ever seen. Naruto is still an entertaining show though, just not anything great.
Currently, i’m waiting for the current arc to vanish and the akatsuki arc to kick in.
I've enjoyed all 126 episodes I seen thus far when I started watching three weeks ago, although I found that the show lost some of its comedic effect that it had at the begging of the series. And can anyone tell me when the Chase for Sasuke arc ends and when this filler arc starts?

Ep 135 - it focuses on the aftermath of the arc as shown in the manga before ending with the non-manga "OMG WE'RE GOING ON A NEW MISSION!!1oneerosennin" scene. 136 begins it properly, and my advice is: don't bother, it really IS as bad as all that. Look forward to ep 133 though, it's an absolute doozy.

Dont know about dumb, more like long. The manga is already far, and it doesnt seem like an ending is coming anytime soon. If an ending did come it would ruin it because it would be to early, but if it doesnt end its going to be like Inuyasha and DBZ mixed together. Which one of those choices do you think Mashashi is going to pick..

I assume this series will end when naruto becomes Hokage.
One problem I have with this series is that the beautifully choreographed fights last much longer than they should. And why must they insist on showing flashbacks and having people talk during battles?
Sorry about the double post, but I just started watching the filler arc and I must say I'm actually enjoying it, anything that involes Jiraiya and Naruto I usually find funny.

As of 191 episodes the filler arcs have yet to end. One fansub group said it would end at around epsiode 203, but I doubt that since they enjoy messing with people.

So much for the filler ending in April like some sources reported it would. Honestly, the filler has gone from being an annoying glitch on the series to something that could really, really drag it down in the opinion's of many once the series ever finishes, which is a bit of a shame. It's just gone on far too long now.

Quite possibly. The whole filler thing is going to lower many people's expectations or reviews of the show. However, it's only the filler that I consider that is really ruining the show. Kind of like the Kenshin filler at the end, but worse.
I think the makers of the anime are waiting for a good long gap between the anime and the manga, so they don't catch up so fast, but there's such a thing as waiting too long. I think they should have just skipped the 2 seasons of filler and just put the show on hiatus. But whatever makes them money I guess...
I'm not watched Naruto yet, but I heared many nice opinion about it :D

The first filler arc was quite good. It was well animated, pretty creepy and scared the bejeebus out of me because O thought that they were going to throw the manga plot out the window. Everything else from there on in just goes down hill.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the fillers will probably never end. It'll pitter out until it stops making money. Betcha'.

Well, i think i have the same opinion as anybody else that likes the genre an has watch this show, its a great show that really entertains and bring a lot of audiences, but the 2000 filler episodes are just lame, and really bring the show down. Watch this series just if you really love the show from the beggining, or have a lot of pacience...

I used to really like Naruto... before all the filler. But now, I simply cannot take the anime seriously any longer. They've destroyed good characters and almost over-developed some (IMHO). When they get back to plot, they'll have to work PRETTY hard to win back my love. Perhaps more of the same animation used in the Sasuke/Naruto battle...?
Regardless, I truly feel that the filler has killed the anime. The characters are everything, and the filler is just ruining them.

Naruto was one of those shows I was initially excited about. It was you're action stuff, but it was different, and I enjoyed watching how they twisted their brains around to figure out how to get out of the various situations they found themselves in.
I got up to ep.140, and I just couldn't watch it anymore. Villian of the week, each villian getting more powerful than the last (to a point where I thought the villians were more powerful than the......forgotten the term, the group of 3, Orochimaru, ero-senin and the woman........I've even forgotten their names!), and the solutions to the problems were getting so predictable.
This is one show I will say I have given up on. I will keep an eye open to see when (or even if) it gets better, but at the moment I have no motivation to trudge through the slosh it had (and still is, from what you guys say) become.

Naruto should've ended with it episode 135 (the episode before the conclusion of the battle) with some epiphany both of the combatants have. the kare kano of shounen anime.
now it's in the rut of "the oddly named evil organizations appears. our hero will have to reach that milestone in order to do that. supporting characters will also reach their own personal power-milestones but will used to show off the villain's power by getting their ass beaten effortlessly. only 4 more arcs and 5 more power-milestones to reach before inner peace!"
atleast naruto doesn't do such a bad job of as bleach. I'm sure the author of bleach feels his manhood growing with each silly ass name he comes up with for a race of bad guys/good guys/hierarchy/combat moves/etc. vizzarrdo? something else. i don't even remember that crap.
My how the mighty have fallen. This series used to be great mindless fun. I would look foward to reading the new chapters and watching the new episodes. As of recently nothing has happened. At all.
When something interesting happens again in the manga, let me know. Untill then, I'll be reading/watching One Piece.

That just reminded me of something. I really detest the voices of the characters in the US version. Naruto sounds like a beyblade kid, Sakura is really ditsy, Kakashi sounds completely out of character, Shino sounds like a snake (I think I heard his voice from the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja game. I'm not sure if they used the same one in the anime), Rock Lee sounds very lame, etc...the only one who sounds partially in character is Sasuke. However, even his acting is pretty lame. I loved the Japanese voices much more. First we get filler, and now we get horrible US voice acting (although I'm glad 4Kids didnt get a hold of it). Can they butcher the show anymore?

You can't butcher something further if you haven't butchered it already. Stop your moronic "LOL dubs suck" fanboyism. It's pathetic. It's stupid. It's NOT a 4Kids dub, yet you still bash it because you think it's "cool" and "hip" to watch anime in Japanese just because it's from that country. "Horrible voice acting" my ass. Like you could do any better. I can tell you're just one of those idiots who agrees with the fansubbers and thinks the show is supposed to be full of cursing and blood, and without that, the show is ruined (even though the CN version shows some blood). People like you are pathetic.
Oh, and the filler is the fault of the Japanese, not the dub company. But you wouldn't know that because you're too busy with your "LOL dubz suk!" posts.

I'll bet. The CN version shows blood, anyway (or at least, some of it), but even if it didn't, that wouldn't ruin the series. Blood isn't what makes a series interesting. The story and characters are. I suppose you think blood and boobs make a great anime series, right? Oh, and what are you going to say when you buy the uncut DVDs and ALL of the blood is intact? How about we just watch anime however the hell we want and not rag on other people's language-watching choices? Yeah, I like the sound of that. It really ISN'T serious business.

As Darkkanti and Tremolo were getting at, you're a moron. I never said I hated dubs in general. There are many dubs I love. Cowboy Bebop, Now and Then, Here and There, FullMetal Alchemist (which I think I have seen you in another thread ragging on someone for not liking that dub. Who cares?), Rahxephon, etc...I just don't like Naruto's dub because the TONES of voices don't seem to fit, and yes, I also think the acting is a bit bad. Sue me. And gee, you must like everything, because if there's a particular flaw that you don't like about an anime/movie/videogame/book/TV show/song, then I'd like to see you do better than any of the flaws in media that you can spot. You're being hypocritical. And I don't care if a show is subbed or dubbed. I'll watch it. But if it's dubbed badly, or if the original japanese voices are really high pitched and whiny, it's not as fun to watch. So I stand 100% by my decision. Whine some more if you want. I don't care. You're just making yourself look ridiculous, and it's you who's making yourself look bad. It's also funny how you just quickly jump at me, and judge me like you know me, and all of my preferences. People like that (and by "that", I mean you) are pathetic. And you know what? You can let off the "LOL dubz rule!" fanboyism.

Me, I am known as a Narutard. In fact a true Narutard will do two things.
One: He will create a Naruto Site (Done)
Two: He will join that site (Done)
Now then as every anime, there are good things, and there are bad things. Well I guess I may be flamed for what I am about to say but I will be speaking out of opinion especially when it deals with the "Dubs" of the Naruto Faction. Now me personally I love the manga the most of all. Why? Because they keep it to the basics, and they keep it slightly more simple. Instead of switching to everying they keep it to consistant, and of course you will not have any filler arcs that will last for three volumes like what has been happening with the show.
I have been watching Naruto since the beginning and me personally I love the subbed more. Why? Well because of the fact that perhaps I started out with it. The Dubs bug me honestly. There are things that annoy me to the point where it is just gah. First off they edited out the main parts of the story. What I mean is that Naruto has some seriously meaning points within the story line and well they edit it out. If you are going to dub keep it consistant. At least with Gundam Wing they kept it somewhat consistant, no matter what you watched you have an understanding of what they meant.
What truly bugs me is that if you have not noticed, Sasuke has more lines for some odd reason. He is like quiet, and mysterious, he is supposed to have that coolness within him but the problem is that when he talks it just seems...bleh. This of course does not bother me as much as Naruto. Japanese Version I love him, why? Because when you hear this voice actor, you can hear the pain, you can hear the quiver within the voice. When Naruto gives out a speech you can litterally feel it in your heart. Whenever I hear him in the English version I just want to throw a tissue at him and say "hey, hock that luggie already lol," not to mention he says "believe it" more times then should be said.
"Naruto you need to distract person A"
"Believe it"
"Naruto I have a bad itch"
"Believe it."
"Omg Naruto the village is going to die"
"Believe it"
Now the way I imagine him is that, he is supposed to be a great person. He is supposed to be an influencial person. In the Japanese Version you can see why he gets respected by those he defeats, but in the English version it seems he does not desearve it at all.
Oh yeah last thing lol, what I truly do not like is that they always bring poor Naruto down in the English version. Sure they do the same in Japan but it is not as bad as they do in English, they call him an idiot all the time and yet he just tries to help. Oh well some things can be understood and some can not, me personally am wondering why Shikomaru does not seem lazy, but a pot head. Oh well lol.
Again like I said I am a Narutard, a fan till the end, well with the subs of course.
What parts of the story have been edited? From what I have seen, everything has been intact. Also, he doesn't say "Believe it" enough to match the times he says "Dattebayo". Perhaps you should also rewatch the Japanese version before making random claims about the dub.
Want to watch a bad dub? Watch One Piece. Naruto's dub is just fine.

So, um, what exactly did they take out of the story? I love how you don't provide any examples because you know that you're dead wrong and are just making stuff up to make it sound like you're right. The entire story has been left intact. I don't know what channel you're watching Naruto on, but CN and YTV have left every part of the storyline intact.
Oh, and good job using a anime that was dubbed by another company five years ago as an example to counter this (Gundam Wing).
What truly bugs me is that if you have not noticed, Sasuke has more lines for some odd reason. He is like quiet, and mysterious, he is supposed to have that coolness within him but the problem is that when he talks it just seems...bleh.
Um... no. Yuri Lowenthal is perfect as Sasuke. The character is just as quiet and mysterious as he was in the Japanese version.
This of course does not bother me as much as Naruto. Japanese Version I love him, why? Because when you hear this voice actor, you can hear the pain, you can hear the quiver within the voice. Uh, he says, "Dattebayo!" just as much in the Japanese version. Also, while Maile Flanagan's voice may be a bit annoying, it's much better than the whiny Japanese one.
Now the way I imagine him is that, he is supposed to be a great person. He is supposed to be an influencial person. In the Japanese Version you can see why he gets respected by those he defeats, but in the English version it seems he does not desearve it at all.

Response to first post:
Naruto: IMO, it's overrated. However, it IS way better than half of all the anime releases lately. Ninjas are always intriguing, with their jutsu and cool weapons, thus I watched it when it first came out locally. I was a bit disappointed because of the childish antics that I did not find cute anymore (old perverts, Sakura's persistent crush on Sasuke, Naruto's "hyperactivity"). I've always been interested in action-packed anime (whoo! YuYuHakusho!), and Naruto provided quite a lot of that, but fillers and flashbacks got in the way of otherwise awesome fights... still, I watch Naruto just because I want to see how things work out. If I may, I'll suggest you try watching BLEACH, although it is a far cry from Naruto, but rather more akin to YYH... Hah, move on, I'm blabbering already...

Yea..I did like Naruto at first..So much that I watched 187 episodes in less than 2 weeks.@.@ The fillers were getting kind of dull though..Plus I think It DID copy a bit from Harry Potter.Lord Voldmort was 'immortal' too.(sorry I can't spell..not sure if immortal is right)He was also 'snake-like' So..yea.I'm going to take a break from Naruto for a while..Made me Very dizzy..
P.S. I'm kind of new..sorry If I say something wrong X.X

@annie14892
I'd like to point out that many of Naruto's prominent characters are based on Japanese folklores and myth. Orochimaru's snake-like appearance mirrors his name: Orochi, which is the 7-headed white serpent in Japanese myths. Another referrence to myths: the Kyubi (actually, kyubi no kitsune) and Itachi's jutsu (Tsukiyomi and Amaterasu, deities in Japanese myth).
P.S. - You're so cute ^^ Don't worry, you didn't say anything wrong.

Bleh..I don't know their names and the moves very well.I stayed up until 5 AM every day to watch it..Cause At home my internet is slow..So yea I gotta watch it at my grandmas. My eyes were blury and thus I didn't pay attention to the moves or names very much.I get a little idea of what you're talking about though..Thanks!
Orochi, which is the 7-headed white serpent in Japanese myths
Actually Orochi has eight heads/tails. The shichibi would either be Kaku; the seven tailed badger, Makumori; the seven tailed bat, or Suzaku; the seven tailed phoenix.

Eight! Oh crap... I'm sorry for the wrong info. Thanks for correcting me.
As for the myths in Naruto, I don't really like how the story bended the kyubi no kitsune myth... the kyubi isn't a spirit or "being made of chakra", but rather just a really old fox that gained mstical powers. Hah. Here I blabber again. Sorry ><

Hmmm I actually do not see to much of Harry Potter but from what is mentioned it is quite right in some ways. Me personally though I see quite a few DragonBall into it. I guess that is just the state of mind because of what I usually see in boards and how people rate between the two. Anyways what I was saying was just an opinion. I rather hear Dattebayo more then Believe it, it has more of a nice ring to it. Also when I said Gundam Wing it was just an example. An Example, sheesh not exactly stating purly on it. It was just an example because of the impact and debates of war and peace. Another thing reason why it seems that Shikomaru seems that of a pot head is of the words drag, and he does not sigh as much. And again the subs are not all that great because they can not even say the names of the people right. Well we do the same as well so I should not complain to much. Oh well. Thanks for the flames though made me feel all warm inside.
I am wondering when the fillers will stop because it is getting a little bland here and there. Not all the time though, but time to time it is just...eh. I am hoping to see Naruto use some new combos, or jutsus here and there but nothing occurs. He uses the same thing over and over and that gets a little old from time to time. What I do enjoy though about the fillers is that they actually take the time to really show who the other people are and what they can do. That is so awsome giving more indepth of all of the other characters, Hinata seems so much stronger it is pretty cute. Ino, she is still annoying but hey she can do more then Sakura (Opinion). I just wish to see more info about all of the other villages like perhaps grass. I am curious what exactly they are capable of.

Also, while Maile Flanagan's voice may be a bit annoying, it's much better than the whiny Japanese one.
I was getting worried I was the only one who thought that. I have not been able to watch an episode of Naruto in japanese without getting a headache from Naruto's screaming everything. That said, everyone else is fine in the japanese version and for the most part - better.
Actually though, I don't like the anime and don't watch it anymore. My overly-picky reason being Ino slapped Sakura in the Chuunin exams. Slapped! What is that? They're ninjas, why would they have a little slap-fight? It's just their fight in the manga didn't present them as so weak. Well, Ino anyways - at this point in the story I was still horribly annoyed by Sakura and thus didn't really care how she was presented.
Darkdreams
07-28-2006, 02:49 PM
The reason Ino slapped Sakura was just to show a physical manifistation of remembered feelings. It was to show that although they considered each other rivals, they were still the closest of friends in childhood, and nothing was going to remove those feelings. It wasn't necessary, but it did add a little more feeling to the fight between the two friends and rivals. <---- This is what I got out of it though, I don't think I'm an expert lol.

But why couldn't she have punched her? I just didn't like that they were, at least for a good while at first, having some weak little-girl fight. Even Neji and Tenten said something along those lines.
But like I said, I know I'm probably being really nit-picky. ;)
I'm just oddly defensive of Ino due to my love for tough, crazy women. :hapbounce
Usually I don't care about differences between subbed-vs-dubbed or manga-vs-anime. Actually, Naruto, Utena and Full Metal Alchemist are the only series I have any real preferences about such things, and Naruto is the only one where I like the manga better.

Now THAT was uncalled for. The Japanese voice actors are not better than the English voice actors and vice-versa. In the case of Naruto, both language tracks are of equal quality. I doubt you even understand Japanese; stop hating all dubs just because they're not in Japanese, and stop worshipping a language you don't speak like it's some holy treasure just because it's the original language. I guess you don't like American movies because they're in English.

Not the case at all. For one thing - obviously - this all just how I happen to feel about it. Of course neither is better, there's just one I happen to prefer. The English Naruto isn't horrible, but quite a few voices just sound sort of off to me.
Also, this is the only anime where I think the japanese version is better. With FMA, I like the english version better. And every other anime I've seen - I don't care, either way is fine.

You know Starwind, I'm getting sick of you labelling everyone who doesn't like a certain dub like a dub hating nazi. She never even said she hated "all dubs". Why don't you get used to critizism for a change? And I'm truly hating about how you generalize that people "hate all dubs" when they just comment on not liking the English voice acting on ONE show. There's aspects of anything that people don't like. If someone thinks the animation is terrible in a certain show, I'm not going to tell them to stop hating anime's animation quality in general. If someone doesnt like the taste of a certain pastry, I'm not going to tell them to stop hating pastries just because they're too sweet. People arent worshipping subs because of the fact that they are Japanese. Some people just like the TONES of the characters voices better in Japanese casts as opposed to not preferring the TONES of voices from the English cast (and yes, sometimes voice acting can come into play from both ends if it seems like the actors arent even trying, or just have plain bad acting. However, it's still about personal preference and opinion). Naruto's TONE of voice sounds completely different in both languages, yet I feel like the Japanese TONE of voice suits him more (and wow! I can deal with the fact that Ava0786 hates Naruto's Japanese voice acting, while I think it perfectly suits him!). Does that make me a dub hating nazi? No. It makes people like us human for being able to have different preferences than each other. Learn to take critizism as what it simply is. Critizism. Not fanboyism. Because not everyone who has an opinion that doesnt agree with your own opinions is wrong. Didn't you learn anything from my last post, after you attacked me on this issue? Grow up.

Wow met some nice people, yay. Anyways yeah there were some things that of course did not make sense. I know I should not mix but of course I read and watch this show. Now for me being a so called Dubbed nazi (Though of course no one has said it but I feel like that) FMA is an awsome dubbed version, as well as Tenchi Muyo, Rurouni Kenshi, GTO, X, Vampire Hunter D, and Kikeider (Spelt it wrong). Anyways my opinion is that I prefer subbed more then the dubbed. Most likely it is due to the fact that I saw it in subbed first so one such as me is used to it. Like with DBZ I saw dubbed first, so I like dubbed more then subbed. Understand?
Back on target. I wonder has anyone wondered on how the heck TenTen was capable of using freaking mirrors during her chuunin exam while everyone was supposed to be watching. How would she be capable of that it was like...right there....ON TOP OF HER...dangling along the ceiling just Waiting to say hi whats up.
Question anyone know when the fillers stop? Been watching some stuff, and well sure the Star Village was ok, but I wonder how it will really progress like it has been in the Manga. I hope to see the story of Kakashi because I doubt that Rin's hair is that color of red or what not.

I'm not a particular dub advocate, but there's a point when you've got to just shut up and put up. The only way anime will reach a larger audience is in English and a few edits will have to be made - it's not like Naruto was butchered or anything. And it'll do better on Toonami, that's why it's there. Why can't you people think a bit more rationally about these things? It's not always about what you want.

Naruto. Unfortunately the way they budget the show, about every dozenth episode we will get a decent quality fight scene. Unfortunately the story continues to drag on. Any anime that has too many episodes or has an undecided ending will lose flavour and quality. The longest anime I have watched and was good - was Great Teacher Onizuka. I think it is partly because GTO has a determined start and finish - rather than a never ending story to attempt to stay on the air.

I think the filler ending at 200 was fake. The title was in English with no Japanese title. Plus it gave the name of the 4rd Hokage and that name hasn't even been discussed in the manga. Plus people have said that the titles never come out this soon. Remember anyone can update the ANN encylocpedia. It was probably someone fooling around getting everyone's hopes up.

As far as I know the title of the episodes were posted in English not Japanese. This is very fishy. Crap. This is just ridiculous. Soon they'll get to episode 235 of the anime, having 100 episodes or more composed of filler. They surely have enough content in the manga to last them for another year or two. By the time they fully catch up with the manga, the manga may be almost finished (believe it or not) anyways. If they include a few filler arcs years down the road (or throw in a filler episode every now and then), that's fine. But this has got to stop. Of course, they won't stop, unless the rating take a severe beating.
