Old news, but still exciting. It's out in just under two weeks now and I'm expecting great things. The latest trailer is full of so much rich, interesting and intriguing imagery that I can't wait to see the film just to explain wtf they are.

All those Al-like suits of armour falling being sucked into a big hole in the sky! Our world!Hughes. Nazis!

It will indeed. Think of the ending of the series as less of an ending, more as set-up for the movie and it comes across much better. Whether the movie will end the series for good is another matter... We'll just have to wait and see.

I'm quietly anticipating the amount of ass that's going to be kicked in this movie. Can't wait. Good stuff.

What i find more interesting than the above trailer is in the characters page:
Al is wearing his brother's clothes!! There's another Alphonse!!!! There's actually a DRAGON!!!!!! And take a look at that policeman right at the end, doesn't he look like someone... :D

If you recall, Envy turned into a big farking dragon whilst going through the gate. And said big farkin dragon is in the trailer. We'll be getting a final Ed/Envy showdown alright :)

I find the fact Al now wearing Ed's clothes and trying to look like him just on the wrong side of obsessive. The guy's even got transmutation circles drawn onto his gloves so he can do the clappy thing as well. So much stuff to look forward to!

Yup, apart from my episode 51 spoiler in regards to Sorrow-kun's post. Some of the stuff we're talking about is from the second trailer and some from the third.

Obviously, the Munich setting in the 1920's (and Ed and Hohenheim being there) was established in the final episode of the series, as was Envy's transformation into a dragon as he travelled through the gate.

I am really excited about the movie but personally if the anime had ended the way it did I would have been happy with that too. Contrary to what most people say I did think the FMA anime had a pretty conclusive ending, the major plotline of the story was concluded. Not having all the answers and everything completely wrapped up is not necessarily a bad thing. In the end I was left with a sense of hope and there are plenty of other anime series where I would have been estatic with that type of ending.

That being said all the previews indicate that this going to be an awesome movie so I really hope it lives up to my expectations. Well I guess we will find out this weekend. Although I won't be seeing the movie there is no way I will be able to stay away from spoilers.

And Explanation to Why Al:

Is now dressing like Ed. Al is wearing his brother's coat so he will not deter from his purpose to find his brother again (sort of like the engraved pocketwatch with Ed) but I also think it's a way for Al to keep part of Ed close to him. I think it's pretty sweet actually, but it's hard for me not to think of anything involving Ed & Al as such.

just finished watching FMA. Thought it wasn't going to be that good but just kept getting better towards the end. I am looking forward to this new movie but I didn't have too much problem with the ending either, although there are a lot of things that leave us wanting to know more. One of my problem with ending...

About this equivalent trade...I honestly believed that this series was telling us that u can't just transmutate a human being. Life, soul is something perhaps intangible and thus no soulless materials could be used as an equivalent trade to create life. I thought this was one of the lesson Ed and Al would eventually learn at the end when they come close to obtaining a philosopher's stone. Guess not, Ed comes back from the dead (well, from the gate...) and later Al's body and the soul. Come to think of it, Ed managed to bring back Al's soul and not the material human body so this wasn't true to begin with I guess...

And what do you think of Roy's appearance at the end? Looks a bit like Pride don't you think? But surely there's no connection to make between Roy and Pride at this point of time, or so I think. Thus I'm assuming that the creators just wanted Roy to lose something valuable as a punishment, or price he has to pay for foolishly commiting himself to the military for all these years. But they couldn't possibly take away roy's life, or dear Hawkeye's life, and what better body parts than an eye to make us feel sorry for our dear hero Roy? Or maybe there is a point or two to be made from that eye patch, instead of bandaged eye (he is still, under treatment).

And I'm glad that they went about how the lives of the ones on the other side of the gate are used as a source of energy for transmutation process. I thought it was strange to begin with, I was wondering if they were using some sort of alchemic chakra (and I gasped) as energy source and using the circle to drive that power to create transmutation...

If the anime followed the manga religiously than the series could have spanned much longer than 51 episodes. However I could imagine the number of filler episodes that would have produced. I felt 51 episodes was perfect, the movie is just an added bonus.

there is no point in continuing a story when it's complete.

guys, if you have enjoyed something, you are supposed to want it to be continued...Not if you're satisfied with the ending. Which is an element all good stories are supposed to have: a good ending. And, after all, isn't anime just a medium through which a story is told?

Edit: lets just hope people who havent watched the anime yet do check out this threadWe're discussin the FMA movie here, which requires knowledge about the full 51 episodes of the FMA series. I thought they did a fairly good job with the ending. It was more of a nothing is impossible type thing, but the things you have to go through to get those impossible things sometimes aren't worth what you end up with (Ed and Al's seperation).

Another thing I'm hoping to see from the movie is what Ed and Al gain from their seperation. It seems like they paid seperation, but got nothing in return, thus disproving the "equivalent trade" theory. Their seperation was the price, but they gained nothing. I'm hoping the movie deals with this (and from the second trailer I'm fairly certain it will).

Wtf!!

I remember you having this in your signature not too long ago. Luckily, I had seen up to that part in the show so I found it pretty funny.

(Currently, I think 2003 holds the record with Gungrave, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Fantastic Children.)Haha, that's different to what I think. I've always been of the opinion that it's the year an anime ends in that marks what year it belongs to, making Gungrave and FMA both 2004 anime in my book.

Which is why I think 2004 has been the best year in anime this decade. FMA, Gungrave, Koi Kaze, etc, etc. The only really exceptional anime I've seen from 2005 so far have been Beck and Air. With that said, there are still a lot of quality titles from 2005 I still haven't seen yet.

I personally think that would have made an excellent movie. Havoc finally getting some makes up for Ed dying. :anghorn:

Okay now to be serious. This link leaves you to a real summary of the movie not a joke. If you read this summary you will be spoiled so do not say I didn't warn you. The only thing you can blame me for is tempting you.

And just in case it isn't clear this isn't my summary. I was not lucky enough to see the movie. Although I wish I could have went to Japan to see it.

http://www.livejournal.com/users/sycia/46529.html

From the summary I am happy with the movie. There are a few things I disliked mainly it seems that alter hughes is a nazi :( but overall I am pleased. Although I still would have been happy with the ending that the series gave us as well. The main complaint I've have seen is a lack of romance, but since I never felt romance was important to this series this doesn't bother me at all.

I absolutely refuse to spoil myself for this at all (I've waited too long to give up now), but Kim dear, does the movie wrap everything up once and for all, or does it leave it open for more? That's the main thing that's been bugging me, and I'd love just a simple yes or no :D

Well here's the thing I personally think it wraps up things quite nicely but I know some people will disagree with me on that. I honestly don't see how people can say that Ed and Al's story isn't wrapped up but I have seen a few fans claim this so I guess it still boils down to opinion and interpretation. And unfortunately I cannot be clearer than that without giving it away.

And I have to give you a lot of credit, there was no way I would be able to stay away from spoilers with this movie, especially since there is no clear date when people outside of Japan would get to see it (although I guess it would be sometime in the winter with the DVD release). You are one brave soul. :D

I joined when the series was still going - in the 30's region or so, but once it was done the community got worse. There was only so much I could take of statements like "Now I know *insert American VA here* IS Ed!". It kept cropping up on fandom_wank and eventually I defriended it. I mean:

It was totally selfish of Ed to leave Winry and the others to go back to the other world. It also made me sad that Izumi, Wrath and Envy died. It was also sad when Al Heiderich died. The whole movie was just a sobfest.

So far, the first seven DVD volumes released by MVM are available in the UK and can be found easily to buy online (http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/6-/Search.html?searchstring=fullmetal+alchemist&searchtype=r2title) or in big retailers like Virgin or HMV.

If you want the complete series in Region 2 format or in a boxset, it'll be a bootleg, and it won't have the dub on it anyway.

I don't think I ever posted my thoughts on the movie, so here it goes.

It was excruciatingly dull. Even the color pallate of the movie was dull. I'm sure this was done for some kind of artistic effect, but the backdrops and even character designs made me want to fall asleep. Al was even more annoying than in the series, everyone was totally emo, Envy had one line, and the only thing I especially liked in the movie was the ever-interesting Wrath. Making every character in the movie sadder and depressed totally took away from their original unique personalities. Boring.

I found the movie enjoyable although I watched it at the Otakon 2006 convention and I couldn't escape the fangirls. *sigh* There was way too much cheering inside the tightly packed theatre. Just the sight of Hughes' face would ignite numerous squeals, but then again I can't blame them.
