These aren't the hellhounds from Resident Evil (http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,15739502-13762,00.html), but it sure looks angry (doubtful it's the reanimated dog).
Next year they will do it to a human.
Buy shitloads of guns and explosives then head towards the boonies.
EDIT: On a serious note, this is really cool. Imagine the possibilities. Instead of freezing and reviving (which a lot are unsure will work), they could just do this.

Cool... another technology my AA comic version can use.
Exciting technology.
What the hell. I swear I remember an article like this months ago, I think it may have even been an April's Fool Joke (yes, I can see the date on the article isn't April 1st).
[Edit] No wait, I just found the article I was thinking about http://65.127.124.62/south_asia/4483241.stm.htm
Anyway, if this is realised, imagine the health insurance scams O,O "I died... really!"
Ah good our world isn't overpopulated enough, let's start storing people in suspended animation. That's not even getting into the issue of them eating people >_>

There is no mention they crave flesh, or brains. So maybe we're lucky. <_<

Cross breeding has already been done. Ligers are so cool.
And if they do start to eat people that would solve the population problem...

let's see...swords make good weapons against Zombies right? Ah, of course they do, and if I get killed, they'll just bring me back to life :XD:

Pfft, swords are terrible weapons against zombies since all they have are basic melee attacks. What we need are long range weapons like guns and RPGs and whatnot.

Why not opt for a vehicle along with a gun? Get a bus or a mobile home and equipt it with guns a la Twisted Metal. (A tank can solve the problem with little hassle though...)

"Plans to test the technique on humans should be realised within a year, according to the Safar Centre."
The only scary line in that article.
I'm pro zombie-dog, but I fear for the life of the first human subject; I just don't see it being all that simple, but if it worked on a dog, why not?

Most discoveries in science are... ineffective until several years of testing. The US food and drug adminstration will have a hemorage when then have to review the liquid used in this process.

Well, these Zombies probably wouldn't be crazy, occult zombies
More like "Holy Shit me guy just died, use revive so I can beat this guy" kinda zombies
So they prolly wouldn't go crazy
But if they did (:D), remember the targets, hands/wrists/arms, legs/feet, neck, and head
They can't use melee attacks without arms or legs ;)
Also just chop off there head, or a cut to Jodan would cleave thier heads^^
with proper distancing they won't be able to do much ^^

I can imagine it now "real-life survival horror game... minus the reset button." Great. Now instead of worrying about your ammo count, you need to worry about your sword becoming dull..

Pff, these aren't real zombies. Not yet anyway.
Why would scientists go to all the trouble of researching this to save lives when they could do something useful like invent some sort of chemical sack to implant in the "zombie"-dogs mouth so when they bite their victims they also turn into zombies (without having to go through all this foney-baloney-body-temperature-saline-solution crap).
Then set them loose for a couple of days in a city that no one cares about (like Adelaide), let them turn a few thousand people into zombies, then go in there with guns and weapons and crap and have a huge zombie killing orgy.
That would be so awesome. Scientists are stupid.

Meh, big deal. After a few hours, their organs and whatnot will begin decomposing, after which you won't be able to do anything with them.
And, yes, crossbreeding is cool. Zonkeys, ligers, w00t!

Uhmm you'd probably have second thoughts when you need some critical organs repaired that will require huge blood loss and hours of surgery. This is quite the breakthrough for surgeries open-heart surgeries. When you have less moving organs to work around, things become a lot easier.
Keeping you alive by killing you first is weird, but I don't see Umbrella zombies walking around anytime soon. Sorry RE fans, you'll have to find some other way to get your brains eaten. Try watching sitcoms for a while.

They already a similar medical precedure in Russia. They literally freeze the patient by putting him/her in ice before doing open heart surgery. The idea is the same as the gel. They "kill" the patient (but only for a few minutes in this situation.) and then do the surgery. They later quickly heat up the body and force the heart to beat by literally massaging it with their hands.

True.
Correct me if I'm wrong, though. I believe they still have problems preventing freeze damage. While they do claim they can cure the damage (like forstbite, etc), it's more work for the surgeons ^^. And like you said, the effects only lasts for a few minutes :p.

My concern would be firstly the cost of such equipment. Most armies (thinking mainly of the US army) already spent small countries' GDP on their high tech equipment, having very expensive medical equipment isn't going to help much (i read in a book that the high techness of the US army might make it good for short limited campaigns, but once you get into protracted warfare the cost is going to hurt the pocket...but that's a different discussion).
And secondly, can this equipment be adequetely adapted for field serivce? can it take the rough and tumbles (and bullets) a medic has to dodge in a battefield. Can it even be carried by a medic?. plus there is a time factor, how long does it take to suspend? It might be a case where it takes too long and ends up costing more lives than it's supposed to save.
Saying it's good for battlefield use is all fine and dandy, but there is a pretty big gap between theory and practice.
As for zombie management, I think a flanged mace and a bolt pistol will sort out most zombies (I was going to put a picture of an awesome space marine model, but I haven't had time to go and purchase it yet, much less paint it.....), in case any escape the cordon and wander up to Gawler, about 40km north of Adelaide...

Quick question here: Is this whole revivin thing considered alchemy? I mean in order to bring back somethin from the dead, you need an equal amount of somethin. I mean, a Shock Therapy spell (bolt + life, only good for machines) and blood is not equal to a soul which is missin once the body is dead. From what I learned from Koudelka, in order to bring back somethin from the dead, you need a soul. Otherwise it's just a doll which can be possessed by anythin. In the case of Elaine, (I think that was James wife), Patrick Heyworth was successful in revivin her physically, but the soul was not in her, causing the possessed body to rampantly transform into a monster in which James sacrificed himself to exorcist her. My point here for that long story is that in order to revive somethin from the dead, ya need to have a soul within the body, otherwise it's just another souless being. But why are scientists doin this kinda research? Bringin back somethin from the dead is heresy. Sure a shaman in the Bahamas was sucessful in creating a zombie, but it was a hypnotized human with a peaceful purpose. I rest my case.

You're kidding right? Please tell me you're kidding. I mean aside from not knowing what alchemy is, there are countless cases where people have been brought back from death. Death as in no heartbeat, no breathing, couldn't think a thought if you promised them 10 billion dollars yet they come back from an electric shock

I just don't get it... this technology could save lives that are usually lost due to accidents or violent incidents.
Are you guys honestly saying that it is better NOT to research this and let people die, than trying to come up with a way to keep them alive?
Also... think about the implications this could have in space travel. You put someone on stasis for 8 months and revive them just in time to land in Mars or whatever.

I can imagine going to Mars... But not much further due to lack of fuel, oxygen and food. Everything would have to be computerized, and human tissue will still probably deteriorate/age despite suspended animation.

Hey, they can also use the technology in correctional institutions, just like in Minority Report.
With the money saved on food and incidentals, and the space saved by all the inmates being in tubes or whatever, the Gub-ment could stick like twenty or thirty times more people in the current prison facilities. :sly2:
Gimpy

But then its like you were never in prison. You go to sleep but you don't dream or have any sense of time. You wake up and go free when you sentence is done. I don't think it would work.

You beat me to it...
People here are thinking so last year.
That space travel idea never occurred to me either. Food really wouldn't be needed for longer flights outside of Mars, because you're dead. All you would need is something to keep your body in tact. Which we have already. Just pump it in with the solution that suspends your body. Rawrz.
