Hajimemashite.
The meaning of this thread is to post either comments about the site (What you like, don't like, questions, should be changed, etc) and to post suggestions (what doesn't the site have that would make it better that is within the academy's grasp).
Comments:
On Reviews, there are some overplayed jokes that'll just annoy anyone:
1) The Visine Jokes (it gets the red out...)
2) The Coffee Jokes (Better switch to decaf/I wanted decaf!)
3) The consistent, "Hello Nurse!"
For someone who has too much time on their hands, if I listed anymore, I would become heir loser.
Suggestions:
Maybe there should be more on the Staff Info pages like favorites and whatnot? Many students want to know more about their professors and retired professors. What's their favorite Japanese dish? Their first anime? Tell us about themselves.
Please continue. I pray to the Lord this thread does not become inhabited by SPAM and hopefully not locked by Professors, Rit, or Roark...

Yeah, the decaf joke was old about a year and a half ago. The DBZ movies alone wore it out.

Suggestion: Do awards. Something like a yearly award graphic added to the pages; awards like Best Art, Best Voice Cast, Best Music, Best Drama, Best Comedy, ect.
I just think it would be awesome for some of the not-so-high-rated animes to be shown off if they qualify.

A lot of the jokes in the reviews are often inside jokes from IRC, or at least the continuation of old inside jokes from IRC. FYI.

Hey, what do you all think of creating a chatroom, you know, it doesn't have to be flashy and it would help people meet others and it would make this academy more seeker-friendly. Just a thought, anyone can feel free to chip in their own two cents as well.

Unless you have another account I definetly didn't hunt down all your posts and flame them(especially considering you only have 10 posts).
Look Philip, I have very little beef with people who just make stupid posts. In fact you seem like you have good grammar and could potentially be a good poster. The thing that really rubs me the wrong way is when lazy people, who don't take the time to read the FAQ's and stickys, make comments that have allready been covered.
These people inconvenience others purely out of their own laziness. If you don't want people to get annoyed at you READ THE GODDAMN STICKIES.

Here's a serious suggestion:
Get s'more newb avatars. If I see another newb take a FLCL, Sesshoumaru, or Tokyo Mew Mew avatar again, Imma gonna ****in' scream. If Mugs wants s'more, I'm sure the local artists here, and even myself, can set up some new small sized newb avatars.
Niner
05-31-2005, 03:56 AM
That's actually a pretty good suggestion. I've got a repository of avatars from way back when I actually had time to make such things. They're smaller than usual, most at 70x70, but I think they work, so I could contribute to that too.
If everyone gives at least one new avatar, then we may finally start seeing new faces around here. We could all use more jojo avatars:D.

and hopefully one day we'll have our annie may comic. *hint hint* *nudge nudge* and maybe we can have little tree worm action figures in the store. edit: oh and i'm sorry if i'm spamming on this thread. my bad.
An Annie May comic featuring all the regulars in the forum getting into a lot amusing situations, we could also try and include a little action to keep things more interesting.
I guess it wouldn't be such a good idea to go and print this comic, after all it would just be are personal joke and the people outside of AA wouldn't undestand it.

06-11-2005, 05:50 PM
But that would take serious planning plus a dedicated artist that has enough skill to draw and color effectivly.

Well, until the day comes when one of us wins the lottery and funds the AA manga, we can still come up with the concept for the story and all the characters background.:D

The one thing that Canadians seem to have as an advantage is that we can spell. Unless Cunuck is some sort of derogatory way of saying Canuck, in which case I fail to see the insult. I'm not so sure. It could sound a bit like a Hall of Fame to the many weirdos out there, and that might inspire them to greater and more annoying deeds.
I dunno, but if there was to be a Hall of Something, then I'd hope it would honor the kind of stuff people would want to see more of:
- Hall of Very Funny Posts That Are Very Funny Indeed
- Hall of Amazingly Kawaii Sigs and Avys
- Hall of WTF

Nothing but useless pissing contests.
Hall of Shame would definitely be a bad idea. Some people take pride in their poor reputations. Have you seen Jojo's sig? "I <3 Spam"
Okay first of all, i dont take pride in having a bad reputation, my impopularity started about 2 weeks after i joined AA and i'm not sure why. I sometimes have made fun of myself or went along with other that have, but its not because i like being dislike, it because i dont care and it doesnt affect me, i'm not going to get pissed at someone just because they made fun of me or because they flamed me(if that was the case, i would have been gone from here a long time ago)
And as for the "I <3 Spam" on my sig, i really don't know what that means, Elric made the sig but i doubt that he would have done it for the sole purpose of insulting me.

You must be nice in commenting on reviews? Bull. The point of student reviews is for others to pick them apart, to improve on your technique while getting your opinion out there. If you're just "nice" nothing will get accomplished.
And yeah, I'm not going to be nice to people I dislike, especially if their reputation preceeds them. I'm looking at you RHF.

I make it a point to take every newbie's review on an ad hoc basis. Some of them are clearly puerile pieces of crap that demonstrate no effort on the part of the writer. As such, I express my reaction, which is more often than not distaste and acerbity. Yet there are other newbie reviews, rare as they are, which exhibit a good and honest effort. These I treat with kid gloves; I critique and offer suggestions and most of the time, encouragement.
Treating all reviews in the same fashion is counter-productive. I apply this same principle to newbies. They have to make a geniune effort and not just spam and hope to make friends that way.

For a twenty year old and saying you can do better; you sure don't know your colors. If you are an art person or something like that maybe you should buy one of those color maps(trust me it will help).
Its not a suggestion; but I just want to say Thanks to everybody thats been kind to me in AA. Annie May is here to stay, but changing the pic of her might be wise. I'm sure that Linuts or ASL can whip something up.

I'd assume that Linuts is busy with annie may comic project along with niner and zee'd (i assume this hasn't been aborted...?). I remember ASL saying this though,
When I said I would do comisioned art I was offering my services to Kain and the AA comic comitee... hehe... I would be willing to offer them some time since my work would apear as official AA stuff.
Only problem is, does ASL come here any more? Is he still interested?
And just a suggestion...would it be ok if we had a request section where people may request a review that is not listed in the library? Like people would just make a request 'can we have an anime named blablabla reviewed?'. Could be a bad idea because not many would participate--->dead section quickly. Just that the library is missing some animes I thought were well known.
kyubichan

@Miaka
Well, just say that she has blue hair, no need to lengthen the subject. Anyway, her hair appears green because of the effect of the blue background of the AA text.
Also, I am commenting on behalf of people who see the website for the first time. Honestly, if it were for the main page alone, I would not visit this site because of Annie May's deformed version. As a clear up, the suggestion was aimed exactly at that banner alone and not to Annie May or AA. As I said, "the girl with the green hair looks deformed", I did not say that I don't like her, or AA for that matter. In fact, I visit AA for its reviews and nothing else.

This has been suggested several times, in some form or another. The short and curt answer to this suggestion is no. The long and nice answer is that the AA staff has no reason to give a specific anime priority: Good, mediocre, bad, and abysmal anime are all equally deserving of a review, and thus, there is no reason to ask for a specific one: The staff will eventually get to review it sooner or later.

I'm sorry I should've edited my post back there. I remembered back in faq, request for reviews are not allowed because AA eventually tried to get to write reviews for every animes out there. I thought the issue died down itself but guess not.
And I dont get this deformation you speak of. Perhaps you could explain how it is aesthetiscally displeasing you, etc. I personally like the current banner. I do think it can be better, just that not many people are willing to put in a lot of effort into I assume.

I have a suggestion: and that is to allow Arcade reviews, they don't need their own section.

@miaka
that's ok, I honestly made a mistake and thank you guys for letting me know ^^
anyway, the point of my suggestion is to draw more people into the site, you see, not everyone is as deep as we (I assume, everyone in this topic) are. what I mean is that people might come across AA but don't bother to browse here because of the banner (and for that fact, the main page) alone. let's be realistic, aesthestics usually attract more people. you might not care if people don't care about AA, but I think more people would make AA more diverse than it already is ^^

Well, AA was voted the third most popular anime site two years in a row. I think they're doing just fine.

^^ then that's good ^^
btw, I posted something about members being 'nice' when they comment on student reviews, some of the reactions are rather ridiculous, taking the word nice for what it is....jeez....okay, to be more precise, I meant :
"older members ought to be objective and should point out what the problem is with a review, and not just go 'jeez, that sucks' because how in the world will the reviewer improve if no one tells him what's wrong with his review? and don't go 'but the whole thing sucks!!!', the reaction should be something like 'maybe he should redo the whole thing and start from scratch and take into account these pointers: etc.'....won't that be more constructive and helpful?" ^^

Something's wrong with you. Go back to page 6. Read all the crap in that page. And don't bring this up again. And this is as constructive as I can get when I'm faced with a post of such a calibre.
EDIT: Ok ok, I'll be nicer, so stop deleting my post.
Hello Kyubichan. Thank you for your concern. Did you by any chance go to room no. PAGE 6 ONWARDS like I asked you to? Just in case you haven't noticed, they have already talked about your suggestion. I didn't bring it up again just so so, I just explained myself because I was the one who suggested it on the first place. also, this IS a suggestion box, if you don't like what you read, then just shut up then. or give your own opinion. but don't tell people what they should or should not post.

Why the hell isn't this a sticky?
Anway, I think the mod and the staff need to get together and decide on a set of guidlines regarding how the forums should be run. You see, all of the mods here (from what I've seen) are very good and do their jobs well but because they all have different ideas on what is and isn't appropriate in the forums (necro-posting, flaming, spamming, etc.). I've noticed certain mods think it's okay to revive an old thread while another thinks it's better to start a new topic and with a forum this large that creates alot of confusion for the staff and the members.
I suggest (since this is a suggestion thread) that Mugs (I've been told he is in charge of the forums?) and the mod's need to decide on what in acceptable at AA so that everyone will know what is and isn't okay and hopefully it will cut down on the whole new threads vs old thread arguement.
Thank you for your time. Make the right choice

I think we should have more set discussions about different forms of anime...than just rag tag discussions about little random things
