1. GitS: 2nd GIG - peerless animation, intriguing story, amazingly detailed world
2. School Rumble - Azumanga reincarnate, Harima owns, cute girls who aren't annoying(except Tenma)
3. Mai-HiME - large cast that actually gets developed, music, great emotional potential
4. Bleach - Started out great, degenerating into shonen cliches
5. Ah! My Goddess TV - love the music, occasionally amusing, characters have lost their charm
6. Jungle...Guu Final - great animation, recycled jokes
7. Ebichu - seriously, somebody needs to release the final two episodes(Ebichuman>God)
8. Samurai Champloo - Oozes style...without an ounce of substance or story

These are the series I am watching right now and while I like them all Monster is by far my favorite. I love the story, the Characters, and the animation.

I'm rewatching FMA with a friend who's never seen it. As for new stuff, I just finished Onegai Teacher and I've been handed a stack of DVDs to watch including Fruits Basket, Nausicaa, and Armitage II + III. I'm gonna be one busy Otaku. :D

While I was watching it I would have agree with you, but as I reached the end, that opinion of mine somehow got shot up to bits... don't get me wrong, it's not a bad anime, but, well... let's just say I want more, because it needs more.

I personally liked how it ended, but as you say it DOES need more and, well, it's a good thing it's getting more!
*waits in anticipation for the movie*
I can't really put mine in order, so I'll just say some brief words about each:
Naruto - The current arc is really good. Still a highly enjoyable series so far.
Beck - Brilliant stuff, say no more.
Gilgamesh - A bit like a more mythical X/1999 - looking forward to seeing this develop.
Texhnolyze - In two minds about either continuing to "acquire" it or just buy the UK release in June. Dark, arty, compelling and sadly ignored.
Vision of Escaflowne - After a slight slump during the middle episodes this has pulled back up into the realm of "great".
Chrno Crusade - Stranded in a lump of filler. Help.

1. Gankutsuou
2. Naruto
3. Beck
4. Gundam SEED Destiny
5. Ai Yori Aoshi
6. Yakitate! Japan
7. Bleach
8. Prince of Tennis
Some tough decicions, I could just put the top 4 into spot #1 and the rest 3 into spot #2 and I would be satisfied with my ranking, not much difference between those. Ai Yori Aoshi would be higher, but the personality of Aoi is pissing me off (Kaoru-sama, Kaoru-sama, sumimasen, sumimasen ARRRrrghh).
Left out some animes which I've only watched for a couple of episodes or the last time I watched an episode was ages ago (Sensei no Ojikan, Gallery Fake, Texhnolyze).

Fwee....
Naruto: I'm still loving it, though I fear how they're going to draw out the Sasuke vs Naruto fight like they did in the manga. Please, oh please, show some common sense, no one wants episode after episode of flashbacks and two people charging at each other with their deadliest moves just to get broken apart and cry some more. For the love of all that is holy, make it fast, make it poignant and be done with it! *ends rant*
Bleach: Renji owns your soul.
Last Exile: Have I mentioned lately that I love Studio Gonzo?
Peacemaker: Ditto, but with more bishies
Monster: Ohhh, the plot thickens!

Hmmm...
MaiHime: In TIF's words, 'best anime of 2004'
Beck: Unconventional but cool, though the Engrish can be grating at times.
Air: Another unconventional anime, and rather surreal yet believable.
Yakitate! Japan: MatsuKen ownz u.
Maria-sama ga Miteru: Best pure shoujo in quite a long time.

I agree, though I do think the flashbacks are important.
The best way to do this would be to have them start fighting, cut to the flashbacks and spend the episode on them, then cut back at the end and have them finish.
The next episode would be Sasuke's demon transformation, etc., and of couse the final clash will happen early. Then he'll run off and they'll do all the winding down stuff, and it'll be the last episode. For Part One.
Fullmetal Alchemist and DNAngel are tied.
But EVA still kick ass.

1. Naruto - I'm not watching too many anime series right now, but the Lee and Gaara fights are simply fun to watch. Right after Gaara's fight however, this title will drop down on the list.
2. Samurai Champloo - I havn't watched too much of it yet, but I love the characters and the super slick animation at some points.
3. Rurouni Kenshin - Fun to watch. The side characters are pretty annoying, but Kenshin isn't. The fights are interesting.
4. Neon Genesis Evangelion - Kinda confusing, but still a good watch. A little slow at times.

Ah My Goddess: greatly enjoying this one. At this point it's like a massively extended version of the original, I do hope it goes beyond the point the original ended, timewise.
Monster: gripping thriller, it has sucked me in.
School Rumble: good to laugh out loud again, reminds me of Azumanga in this respect.

1) Paranoia Agent - I knew I was going to enjoy it the moment they started yodelling!

In no particular order:
AIR - though a little condensed, this show has a very interesting and emotional story. Not to mention the (perhaps) best animation quality yet for 2005
Beck - snail pace in the beginning... and Engrish... But somewhat realistic and addictive ^^. The OST is what really hits the chord here.
Mai-Hime - While I do like all the twists and turns in this show... I'm just not as into it as most people here are. Don't know exactly why really o_O
Ah My Goddess - a show with not much happening... Yet somehow still gets me watching o_O
School Rumble - occasionally funny... My only gripe is some of the out-of-place dramas for the side characters.
Bleach -...though right now it's slowly flushing itself down the crap hole... :P
Gakuen Alice - cute and twisted show... Still don't know how good it is since the fansubs are so slow to come out T_T
Edit: Oh how can I forget
Yakitate! Japan. The manga is simply brilliant and they've done a great job so far with the anime adaptation.

Paranoia Agent is the best of what I'm watching now.
That being said, I'm watching Eva for the first time and I like it a lot:
...when that angel with the ribbony arms launches Unit 2's head (and that mouthy Asuka chick with it) and then Shinji's eva munches on the dead angel and starts freaking-out.......it was like religious experience, I tell ya what.

Ghost in the shell (SAC) - good..........thats all im saying

Gantz- an amazing anime that dwells into the human pshicy
Gundam SEED DESTINY - I really loved SEED and this one is actually better! :D
Mobile Suit Gundam - Ayup, the very original in Japanese w/ Eng subs.
JINKI:EXTEND - Very interesting but kinda confusing. I love the character designs and art.
Tales of Phantasia - I actually have a few eps but haven't seen a single one. I gotta get around to it.
Gunbuster - I just finished watching all 6 eps and I gotta say.... the ending was very interesting.

Currently watching:
1. Mai Hime - The most exciting anime in ages.
2. Beck - Gets much better after they perform at the concert.
3. Monster - A solid thriller with gradual character development
4. School Rumble - After initially panning this show, it has actually managed to be genuinely funny now that the characters are interacting with each other.
5. Bleach - Got good when Ishida appeared and everyone got their powers, but now that they're in soul society it's dragging a bit.
6. Yakitate Japan! - really good, but I've read the manga already.
7. Air - A lot better than Kanon - great animation.
8. Ah! My Goddess - A lot better than the OVA's.
9. Burst Angel (Bakuretsu Tenshi) - Initially looked really good, but then fell into a predictable routine - meg tries to help, gets captured, and Jo saves her (sweet) ass.

sadly the animes that i have been watching befor have not been coming out lately :'( so now i have very little to watch... meh champloo will time me over.
As of right now, it's gotta be Beck. I think Bleach is overrated and is slowly spiraling down. They try to add comedy in situations where there shouldn't be any, and it's really awkward. They try to force that aspect of the show too much. The music of Beck is superb, and though it starts off real slow, its kind of like Noir in that it really starts to pick up.
Full Metal Alchemist and I'm also trying to finish watching Rah Xephon.

Chobits (4/26) - 8.5: Very interesting, funny, and the artwork is great. No real complaints so far, except Hideki doesn't blink too much...
Fullmetal Alchemist (11/51) - 9.0: Nice storyline and characters. The music ain't bad, either.
Last Exile (13/26) - 8.5: Why the hell haven't I finished this yet...? Great art and music, though.
Gundam X (9/39) - 9.5: This might be competition for my favorite Gundam series, The 08th MS Team. Great characters and music, but the artwork can be dodgy at times.
That's it from me.

1) Monster - A great thriller.
2) Honey Clover - I like the whole laid back feel of this anime. Morita's a pretty classic character already.
3) Futakoi Alternative - Great use of unorthodox camera angles and story telling as well.
4) Yakitate Japan! - Makes a good fist of making the transition from the Manga.
5) Bleach - Getting a little overburdened with just fight scenes, but at least they're built up well.
6) Ah! My Goddess (TV) - surprisingly watchable compared to the OVA's
7) Raxephon - I'm at about ep15, and I'm mainly thinking "Hurry up and start making sense already!"
8) Ai Yori Aoshi - It's either sweet or has dumb laughs in it. Mildly fun.
9) Speed Grapher - It's starting to get interesting after it got past the obvious 'money corrupts' theme it seemed intent on portraying.
10) Peach Girl - I don't know why I'm still watching this as the characters (and there seem to be so few) are starting to get on my nerves - it at least seemed to have a decent premise.
11) Trinity Blood - Hate to say it, but this may end up the same way Bakuretsu Tenshi did. We'll see.
12) Girls Bravo 2nd season - A guilty, damn near sinful pleasure.
13) Tsubasa Chronicles - This simply feels flat. I'm sure fans of Clamp may get pleasure from watching this, but it kind of feels generic and uninspired so far.
And a special mention to Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokoro Chan for being damn funny in its first 2 episodes.

Hmmm... Just to warn you, the series steps up its fanservice to almost intolorable levels, and they make fun of people with prosthtics. (I forgot to mention this in my review as it has been months since I've last seen this anime, and such details were not left in my mind... Credit goes to Taleweaver for reminding me.)
Find Taleweaver's review at:

LoL Oh yes, quite aware of that particular context- but no pun intended with the 'hands down' comment ^^; But like I said it's how you take the context and how sensitive you are too, if you can overlook that and focus on the story itself, then you should really have no problem there unless you want to start comparing this to a some of our own home grown American shows >_>

Speed Grapher is quickly becoming a favorite as I watch the series. While I prefer mecha & light comedy most of the time, I really like what I have seen so far in the series. So far, only OMG & Speed Grapher have been the only ones so far in 2005 that I will buy when they come out on DVD . . .

I agree. that is why I was confident enough to give the show a 87%. I wasn't irked by the crude jokes and the nudity (which at times went to the "pornographic" level) as much as Taleweaver was. Also, after reviewing something after 5 months, only the memorial aspects are left. (In my case, the drama.)
To keep on topic. My top three:
1. Honey and Clover (One of the best character driven dramas since Kare Kano)
2. Speed Grapher (Has a lot of potential, but I fear Gonzo might botch this.)
3. Yakiatte! Japan. (A great Shounen anime, but it is starting to lose its charm...)

One Piece, Naruto, Erementar Gerad and thats about it right now and thats not a lot compared to what I am watching right now. (hard to find really good anime these days -- for me at least) Now this doesn't mean that all the other ones suck, its just not the "Best of" anime that I am watching. Still enjoyable of course.

I'm watching Noir right now, and I'm loving it, even though it's only the first 4 episodes. The next best would be Full Metal Panic!, even though I've only watched one episode so far. Bleach and Naruto are on a huge downhill slide, since they have been entirely composed of filler for quite some time. Gantz is also quite intense. I'd rank that below Noir and FMP, but above Naruto, Bleach, Disgaea and Azumanga Daioh.
Disgaea is subpar, and I cannot get what's so funny about Azumanga Daioh, as I find the humour way too slow for my tastes. So many large gaps of silence between lines of dialouge. I've smiled a few times, and maybe laughed a little, but that's it. Now I get why they say it's a love it or hate it anime.

Lets see...
Ouran High School Host Club: Easily the best show of the season (for me), the comedy never fails, the characters are adorable and the eye candy (both for the eyes and ears) is gorgeous.
Ergo Proxy: After taking a dive in the animation department I'm still following it because I enjoy recognizing its philosophical winks, the atmosphere never dives and the characters are so humane. The OP is addictive as hell too.
Mushishi: I think this one is done in Japan by now, but I've stopped myself from ruining the last episodes by reading summaries or commentaries in other sites, so I guess it's still 'airing' for me.
NANA: After the flashback flood + recap that were the first six episodes, from seven onwards this series is definitely among my favorite from the season. The humor translated incredibly well from paper to the screen. Perhaps the only thing I can criticise about it is the not-so-amazing musical score, but there's plenty of time till Trapnest shows up and proves that the ED is not an exception.
Jyu Oh Sei: With only one episode left to air, I have a lot of expectations with this one. The pacing is absurdly fast (for what I read, the manga is not that different) and some characters are begging for extra time. It has its fair share of weaknesses and ocassional cheese, but it's hard to find such quality sci-fi in the anime realm that I'm glad Jyu Oh Sei has being so gripping since episode one. Plus it's being a long time since a series makes me finish an episode and comment about it right away like this one does. ^^;
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: I'm following it, but I doubt I'll become a Haruhiist any day soon, I still love the show and I'm rooting for a second season all the way.
XXXHolic: I'm quite behind with this one, which is a shame because I enjoyed the first six episodes a lot. The adaptation turned out much better than I initially expected. I find it funny that some people comment on its lack of ongoing plot, yet what makes this show as enjoyable as it is, is exactly the lack of one, much like Mushishi.
I'm also following a whole bunch of other stuff (that often have more 'erratic' release dates), but the list above would be the things that are airing in Japan (sans Mushishi) and I'm currently watching as well.
Of the on-going series, I was following Suzumiya, Ouran, Higurashi, F/SN, School Rumble season 2, and NANA.
Now being quite busy, I am only following Suzumiya and SR (F/SN ended).
It's not that I don't like Ouran, or Higurashi, but they just don't have the same impact on me as F/SN and Suzumiya. I am a very character-oriented person, so if the characters can't connect to me, and I can't really sympathize with the characters, then it just doesn't draw me in very deep. Ouran is funny and well, but their characters just don't seem to do much for me, and hence I care less about them. I don't really understand either, since Suzumiya is a sci-fi story with aliens, but I actually find the characters in Suzumiya more believable than Ouran, maybe it's just my own biasedness. Higurashi is the same for me, the mystery is good and all, but if I can't connect with the characters, then I am just watching moving pictures.
On the other hand, I felt F/SN had great potential. Lots of believable characters (for me), and with a great and emotional story surrounding Shirou and especially Saber, who I deeply cared about. Anyway, if you want to read more about what I think about the show, you can check out the F/SN thread started by Sorrow-kun.
Suzumiya is always giving me something new, and I always look forward to see what KyotoAni will pull off in the next ep. Great and fun characters, and more importantly, they actually develop (with the exception of maybe Koizumi and Mikuru, they didn't develop that much). Other than those 2, everyone else are slowly changing, you can see their relationship building, it's just great.
SRII hasn't really lived up to the first season imo, but I still look forward to it every week, hoping they will be back up to first season's standards. Unfortunately, that hasn't really happened yet imo.
So in conclusion, I would say Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu is probably the best show I am currently watching.
1. Blood+
2. Witchblade
3. xxxHOLiC
4. Nana
5. Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu
6. Ouran Koukou Host Club
7. Black Lagoon
8. Saiunkoku Monogatari
9. Utawarerumono
10. Strawberry Panic
Air Master: I'm a big fan of "martial arts in school" type of anime so its natural that i would eventually check out this one. This one sets itself apart by having an original type of main character, in this case the girl is really tall and doesnt look very femenine, pretty good actions scenes too, it has some fan service during the actions scenes and by some of the other cast but its still not anywhere near as intrusive as other anime like Ikkitousen.
Gun X Sword:In the first few episodes it looks like just another mecha anime, it has a slow beginning but by episode 12 the plot finally starts to pick up, good animation quality and character designs, i also liked some of the mecha desings like El Dorado 5.

I watched that anime a year or two ago. The only saving grace was some of the action scenes. The plot wasn't that great. And doesn't that big breasted girl REALLY annoy you? Always shouting out for Maki or for Maki to save her, and crying all the freaking time? *shudders*
Anyways, the best anime I'm watching at the moment is Full Metal Panic. I was kind of on a dissapointing anime streak lately with Disgaea, Azumanga Daioh (It's a love it or hate it anime. I fell into the latter), and a few others, so I'm glad to be viewing something refreshing, funny, fun and interesting. I thought it was going to be just another mech anime, but was I ever wrong. It's definately entertaining.
Crap. Apparently, I've seemed to mention these animes a bit earlier, but I wasn't into Full Metal Panic as much (I had only seen the first episode). Also, Noir was a solid show, but Full Metal Panic has proved to be more entertaining. I had also watched .hack//SIGN and .hack//DUSK recently. .hack//SIGN was put together better, but had a dissapointing ending.

Well, that chick didnt really annoy me as much as other big breasted chicks from other series, at least in this anime she's very self aware of them and doesnt like the attention they bring, some of the comedy involving her is kinda funny("I'm a milk cow") and most of the leasbianism hints are amusing. And also, how Maki reacts to any type of romatic approuch to her is priceless("YOU WANNA MAKE BABIES!?).

Hmm... let's see:
Ergo Proxy - the trailers claims it's the crew who did Witch Hunter Robin, which I wasn't so enthusiastic about. But after watching 12 episodes, it became one of the most anticipated. Like WHR + GITS meshed together... still pending for upcoming episodes by Shinsen Subs.
Monster (2 times) - One of the most riveting storylines I've ever watched. Seriously, when people are asked which anime has the best characterisation, FMA becomes synonymous. But I dare say, that Monster is much better at it. The manga won an award, and I say the anime deserves one too.
Rurouni Kenshin - Reminiscence (3 times) - Like a Japanese Romeo & Juliet, watching it always makes me sympathise with Kenshin and Tomoe. I doubt any other anime would beat it... well, maybe Grave of the Fireflies

Ai Yori Aoshi- Only 3 episodes in but right now I find it to be fairly entertaining.
NANA- Through 11 eps. I must say that I am losing interest in this one. I will finish it out but I hope that it improves. I was very interested in the beginning but a few of the characters really bother me and I feel the show is losing steam.
Yawara- Picked this up because I loved Monster so much and the same author wrote the manga. Though totally different than Monster, I like it so far. The old man cracks me up.

Ergo Proxy -> it's like Witch Hunter Robin and GITS combined... Interesting concept, I must say after 12 episodes. Well, the director did WHR anyways...
I just finished watching Now and Then, Here and There. One of the best series I have ever seen. UNBELIEVABLY real characters, with great development, watching them struggle over the course of the anime was just very moving. This series will make you think about many things that you don't usually think about, and it's just great to see such a well executed drama.
My words just can't do this show justice. If you want to see a great moving series, you definitely don't want to miss this.

Wow. Such detailed answers. My brain just might explode comprehending this.
Anyways, I'm watching Escaflowne right now, and it's the best anime I'm watching, aside from Blood+, which I've already listed before. It's got such a unique, magical setting to it, some compelling characters and mech designs, and throws two different types of genres together that I havent seen combined before (Medievil and Mech aspects). But pulls it off so well, that it doesnt seem like a pointless add on, and really helps add to the feeling of the world that the show is set in. The plot, character development, music, art (although a bit dated) and action are all very satisfying. It's definately one of those series that I will have to buy the boxset of.

The best of what I'm watching right now is Ouran, followed surprisngly closely by Simoun. After them come Nana, xxxHolic, Aria the Natural, and Strawberry Panic - not the best, but better than just average.
Innocent Venus and Chevalier d'Eon have interesting starts but it's too soon to tell if they belongs on a "best" list.
From older series, I'm watching You're Under Arrest! for the first time and loving it.

Eureka 7,, its so so great. I love the history, the pace, the characters. The only thing that worries me, its that everyone in here complained about the ending... im just at episode 26 and i dont know what to expect...

I just watched Honey & Clover eps 1-9... And I love it!!! I know it was good, but not this good... It's like a clever balance of comedy and drama... I really love Morita and Yamada... They crack me up... I look forward to completing the first season and moving on to the second season...

Believe it or not, I'm currently watching Azumanga Daioh (yes, Azumanga Daioh!). I gotta tell you - I've never seen an anime that has no story backbone whatsoever in my life.
At first, the opening theme makes me go :eyebrow: , but after watching it, I went like :tmi: . The characters are very quirky and Chiyo-chan is unbelivably cute. Seriously, if I were to have a daughter, she would ideal for me.
One thing's for sure - the series seems to have a psychological effect on me. Osaka's dim-witted disease is very contagious because I seem to have caught it. Honest to God, after watching just 3 episodes, I completely forgot what year it is today.

The best that I am currently watching would include Gankutsuou and Hare + Guu. I am enjoying both of them immensely.
