Wow, very impressive. The only thing I can see is that the wings in your siendoodle.jpg seem odd for some reason. I think the problem is that the... wing stalks? are too long; there should be wing there.

Maybe a lightly sketched room/hall would be a nice enough background for Trioc, and that would not waste too much effort :)

Well he might not be a sexy mechanic, but it sure is cute. I like it a lot.
The rest of the drawings are really good, (regardless of lined paper and bad scanner). The Trioc is wonderfully colored, and Mimi gears is great (reminded me of an Alice in Wonderland theme), nice job.

Wow, I absolutely love all of them, I'm so impressed, not that I expected any less from you, since you are sooooo talented. Anyways, along the same lines of what Tyrdium said, the wings (or non-wings as you said) do look a little off, but it's not too obvious. gahhh im so jealous. please keep up the great work!

Yeah those wings are weird. They can shape themselves into a lot of things, but I guess I should've just stuck with normal looking wings for now :p.

My dog isn't a chow chow, mine is like a miniature version of a chow chow, called an American Eskimo. It's more closely related to a Samoyed, but, it still looks like your chow chow up there ^^

The girl looks great, the line work is great and the coloring makes it really pop. The coloring is good on the bear-dog-cat looking thing too, but the legs look a little awkward. Overall, good stuff.

As much as I don't want to admit it, I have experience, not talent. You should've seen what I drew when I was in grade 8 :p.

When I say practice I mean you should keep trying stuff other than anime. Just try everything to get your skills going. Take some pictures if you have a camera. Learn how to place things in a restricted paper dimension. Take pictures of people and draw them in their various poses. Take B&W photos and learn how lighting works, etc ,etc. Expand your horizon and your day shall come :D

oh i have taken pics of ppl and tried to draw them - hell they come out bad! >.< but hey @_@ all this sounds overwelming...i wonder where i should start aside from anime/manga... i cant draw animals or trees.... or anything like that... maybe i should try a bit of painting... which im bad at too might i add...

Nice job on the fairies, the poses are really awesome, but theres something a little awkward about it. I mean what is the girl fairy doing to the guy, examining his wings or something. ^^
And your Gaia avatar picture is pretty good. The pose is right on, and he reminds me of Reid from Tales of Destiny 2.

and the arms in the gaia pic look a bit... off... too big or flat seeming... maybe shading can correct that..

Linuts, I hate to break it to you, but you're not Canada's Best-Kept Secret... Donna the cook from Carlson's Viking Island is Canada's Best-Kept Secret. :p (I spent a week there and her cooking is phenomenal :D)

Anyway, that pic is more than a little bit creepy and odd, but you kept it very tense-looking so the mood is spot-on. The lineart is also exceptional. Good work!

I'm guessing his answer here, but its a combination of 2 things (based on advice I got from him, I think):
1) Scan in grayscale.
2) Right at the start, adjust image contrast up. That gets rid of all the slightly gray patches.

What Zee'd said. My scanner is more than ten years old, so it took me a while to get the right adjustment values. Just play around and WRITE THEM DOWN! ^^ I don't know how many times I scan something good and then forgot how I got those settings in the first place T_T.

Edit: Oh and I have to do some cleaning up with Photoshop most of the time. Just adjust brightness and contrast.

Heh, if you look at the dates of my posts, I haven't really updated this thread much either :P. Even my comic has been full of blank page updates T_T. That last term was total hell! T_T Well it's the holidays again, so I'm gonna draw some more... For ASIP anyway.

Sheesh, I have to do a search for my own thread everytime I update now. I don't update too often do I T_T... I've been lurking around the the Art Class like the Phantom lately :p.

Anyway aside from A Stranger in Paradise I have been very secretly... and very very... very... ... very slooowly working on another comic. It started almost around the same time as ASIP but I've only got like 4 pages sketched up and partly inked at this point. Anyway here's the cover page (not the cover) of Shadow Swallowtail. That's not what the characters usually wear btw. I'm just trying to do leather for the first time, and I think it turned out ok ^^. Some people will probably recognize Faye (I hope ^^). Oh and the guy that's being tripped is the same guy in my avatar. (Yes, he's a guy, it's all part of the story :p).

Summary

Main Male just lost his family two months ago out of mysterious circumstances. Even though his uncle became his legal guardian, he still felt lonely and decides to make his "142nd love confession to a girl" to Faye, a close friend of his. To say the least... That didn't went well either... Just when things look gloom, his uncle annouced he is engaged and they will become part of his fiance's family.

And so, meet the Staranda's. A family of one mother and three sisters. Of all the chances, Faye happens to be one of them. As if having your crush become your sister isn't enough, the Staranda's is not an ordinary family. They are a mercenary group known as "Swallowtail". Each of them possess outwordly abilities that are passed down only to humans of the female variety. And, as Main Male is about to find out, he is one of them... o_O :sweat:

Main Male

A 17 year-old bishonen... And not necessarily a good thing. Since he is so cute, women adore him like a barbie doll. On the flip side, all 141 of his love confessions ended in failure since none of the girlfriends can imagine themselves making out with such a "cute girl". He is a little spoiled and overly sensitive at times, but he is often a reliable man (at least he is trying to be). His right hand became half paralyzed after his family tragedy, but it now has the ability to turn any liquids to solids (just not the other way around).

Faye

Hmm The 2nd oldest/youngest sister and a woman of mystery ^^. I wouldn't say much since she already has a name ^^.

Bad-a$$ B!tch to Main Male's left

The oldest of the Staranda sisters and quite an athlete. She has a very short temper which scares a lot of people away and makes her more like a delinquent than a woman. She does, however, have the love and respect of all the sports teams' members she coaches. Most importantly, she loves her family more than anything. With the ability to turn her hair into a raging wave of fire, Main Male often calls her a "Hothead".

The Mother (left most woman with overcoat)

The Mother of the Staranda's. Cool and collected... But when she gets mad... watch out ^_-. She is a former CIA agent and the founder of "Swallowtail". She fights with a sword, which acts like a tesla coil. One strike, and she'll send 10000 volts down her foes meters away.

I'm not aiming for an English Literature award, but that's the basic idea ^^.

Heh Elfen Lied. My, did I enjoy that show and all its gruesome detail... It's too bad the violence turned off some viewers... It's still a good show ^^. Well the decapitation isn't as bad... You probably didn't notice but there isn't any blood around those bodies. It's more like there bodies were shattered *hint for story ^^*.

Your drawings already kick a$$, and adding angles will even be better ^^. Can't wait ^^.

BTW I like mecha! Just not the recent ones... For god sake ENOUGH GUNDAMS ALREADY!!! DIE SEEED DIIIIEE!

They look good. Great job with the colors, very vivid. In case you hadn't noticed it, there's a black dot hanging down from her pistol. I like the ava except for the red butterfly in the upper left corner. It's too dull and is an eyesore among the details.

I think you mean the face look too smooth... Which I may have to agree... Since it doesn't really match the painted style of the clothes... But then I don't want too much detail on the face... Being cartoonish and all...

The problem with outlining with the tablet is the lack of accuracy... Some longer lines become very hard to do on tablet... It took me a lot of tries before I could get the pony tail right. It's still much easier and less time consuming with real ink and paper.

BTW Cool new ava. Go Tiger! ^^

Linuts! ^_^ I finally took your advice and got myself a username here.. wow, I'm really not much for forums but I will give this a shot

Nice pictures by the way! How come I haven't seen most of them on DA? I was wondering if you were dead to the world of art - in other words lazy (like me) or if you were just not posting on DA anymore. Oh well. It's nice to see you still up to your drawings, very nice stuff indeed

Hehe, busy you say? That's really too bad. It has been way too long since we have talked. We have still yet to do a collab =.=' Heh, my photoshop skills are getting up there, so if you want to try then just give me lineart ^^;;
I have been thinking of a new RPG idea, which this time I will most likely go through with ^^;; I just need to find an artist to do art/manga for it. If you weren't so busy I would ask you, but you have lots to do and ASIP is top priority. But if you happen to know of anyone who would be willing to help then it would be nice if you let them know that there is a way that they can ^^

A few comments:

Page 0:
That is a lot of shiny leather. O.O I like how the gal is tripping the guy as he's coming into the picture--very cute.

I like this drawing. The linework is clean, and the details look polished. As for her design, well, I'm not too fond of her bangs. (They kind of resemble a row of teeth. O.o) However, I'm somewhat anti-bangs, when it comes to drawing...

HAGANE NO RENKINJUTSUSHI's double.... Didn't you know? Trex was there for all the bloody parts in those flashbacks. You should thank him for his dramatic performance :P.

Ok ok, I sorta already saw that with one of his expressions. I made the face a little too fat in that smiling face and now it resembles Ed. I need to keep my faces more consistent T_T. Overall though, the similarity isn't that significant for the other drawings.

Try a different color glow. right now the thing that looks off is the glow is too yellow. other than that though it is good and lol I agree it's nice to see a change but your other sig was fricking awsome. but I also looove the EGA girl in your sig. she's a cool looking character. you sure are good at drawing sexy people linuts :D

Now that you mention it... I think I got my angles and shapes messed up... That's probably why the fingers look a little weird.

Oooh, I also like the way you colored this picture, the water color style is cool. The fingers do look wierd. I may be picking at the picture, but about the text on the book, the bottom text doesn't seem to be aligning with the top.

Ok... So I haven't touched this thread in a long while... Like a LONG while... No more like a LOOOONG while... No... More like a LOOOOOOOONNNNNNGG.....you get the idea...

Anyway... So I was doodling and started to play with mixing ink and pencil for shades again. Something that i haven't done in a while. I think it turned out ok ^^.

Wow, is this another character for your online comic? It is very well done in my opinion. I like the detail in the outfit as well as the hair given to the girl on top. There is nothing at all that I can find wrong with it, except for the ear. I find that it should be moved a little bit back, but that's nothing^^ maybe I just see it.

The one guy drawn on the far left and on the bottom right is also well done. The marks shown from his nose and lips, and the detail put into the eyes. I can't think of any other comments good or bad for this one.

As for the guy in the far back, I don't know how to comment on him. He just seems to me like a quick sketch. Nothing more I can say on that.

Overall, I like the drawing of the girl the most. Especially with the clothes and showing of the little creases (sp?) and wrinkles in it. Good job.

shading turned out not just ok, it turned out brilliant. Not sure if u r expecting any critique, but since I try to refrain from...anyway,

Nice shadings to depict reflections/creases on the jacket.

Is her right arm supposed to be that thin? Shadings there fail to depict the depth + near cylindrical shape of normal human arm.

Which right are you talking about? Her's or yours? o_O

Yeah, that right arm didn't sit well with me. It's more of the position than the actual shape though... Looks a bit dislocated.

One thing I was really interested about was how different the right and left side of her face looked. They're both beautiful but definitely different to me. You could almost draw an imaginary vertical line between the eyes and see two different faces, almost 'Cloud Strife' looking male with very light hair on the left and a sharp and handsome looking woman with darker and more groomed hair with hawk-like eye on the right. I'm not sure if you wanted to portray any special quality of this character through this representation or maybe accidental/subconscious desire or most likely, I'm just wacked and seeing things that nobody cares.

Yeah, it's my social commentary on how everyone has two faces blah blah blah

Interesting way of seeing it though :D.

Face is plain despite incredible detailed shading on the hair/jacket, I suppose the intention was to depict that pale quality of elves (indicated by the ears).

Well, I was working more on the clothes, and I didn't want to add too much detail. Learned it from drawing my comic... Too much detail will only confuse the scene. If I added in more shades, I don't know if it will show up well amongst the mess in the clothes ^^.

I am confused as to what the object sticking behind her back is. Her shuriken? Ribbon to tie her hair? Seemed kind of unnatural.

You're thinking too much ^^.

I was thinking about how finer line would be necessary to define her chest and her right arm better but I'm guessing that's because of the scanner (I know how crap they are). With that in mind, this picture would look even better in non-digital form, very impressive.

It's most probably due to the scanning... There's more black then there really is, and you can't really see the outlines very well...

Anyway, thanks for the comment. Long stuff like this reminds me of my old energetic critic self ^^.

Hey look! Linuts updates! It's the END OF THE WORLD!

Ahem...

I haven't really CGed in a while, and it's one of the things I really want to improve on. So I did this pic on the whim. I'd say I could've done more with less lines, but otherwise I think it's one of the better pics I've done ^^. Hopefully, people will agree with me ^^.

Wow, that's an awesome picture! The colouring is gorgeous. The yellow on the guys neck seems a little dark though. It doesn't quite match the rest of the skin. Also, they seem a bit disproportionate. The guy is three times the size of the girl. Maybe you did that on purpose, I don't know. But an excellent job!

yea, it would be ok if they're like a brother-sister, but look how her hand is probing around his chest (o, and his chest looks flat on coloured one).

And I had things concerned with her butt that I wanted to talk about, but after reading it myself, it just sounded plain weird and well, lets just say I can understand why Linuts decided to fix her but still feels that it could use more 'tweaking' for more natural feel.

And I wouldn't mess around with her. Not when she has that thing wrapped around her hair.

Yeah there were many parts of this pic that just seemed wrong... And when I try to change them, they seemed wrong-er... So everything was reverted back to the original state anyway(this regards to the hair and yellow neck comments)... Except for that butt... With the original pic... the curves looked more natural, but the legs looked way too short. I tried to fix it but never got that curve back T_T...

I don't want a booklet of photocopied images clearly inferior to original works, i can do that for free myself, bless the internet.

But why would you want to sell those collection of original drawings at a price affordable by an average person? Something special like that should be cherished for your life, reminding you of your creative days and what kind of events in this cosmos made u to draw that kind of stuff, etc.

So yea, I wouldn't buy the 'book' but would of course, purchase that collection of original drawings that look much fresher compared to the digital format. But no way I can pay up to the price you desire because probably, it would worth a lot more to you than me.

I agree with Dennis I like the original better then the colored.
The coloring is nicely done of course but I think the flaw between the two is that the guy in the colored version looks like hes balding. (i know its just probably the angle...)
Anyway great job once again on both coloring and drawing.
BTW if you did put all your original works together i wouldnt mind buying it either, even though i know its just a joke. :D

I'm impressed. The CGs are really nice to look at but there is still ways to go before it looks truely professional. The lines need to be little bit more finer and the colors can be blended more naturally. (I can't do CGs at all, so I have little right to comment, but just a little personal critique.)

That's exactly the problem I keep seeing. I'm still trying to figure out how I can make the lines finer with the tablet... So close, yet so far T_T...

something I see some artists do that I think is really cool is they reduce the opacity of the lines thenmake a new layer and go over them in darker shades of the colors...does that make sense?? with the style of cooring you do I think that might turn out interesting...

Do you mean a new layer over or under the opague outlines layer? If it's over, I'm already doing that... If it's under... Hmm haven't tried that o_O

hmm I meant over..but I meant like..the pants would be outlined with a darker shade of brown..and the skin with a darker shade of...that color and so on and so forth....instead of just using black...I dunno XD *feels dumb*

Ah, you mean using the same shades of colors for certain parts. Yeah, I kinda noticed that... Though I'm not sure if that's how it works. When I see some of the pro-stuff, their outlines are always black. Maybe I'll play around ^^.

There are a few ways. Note that I've never done any of them, so I donno how they work:

1) Multiply color A in layer A with color A in layer B above, set to multiply, and you get a darker color B. Is this what you meant?

2) Darker color in the layer above. That's all

3) Duplicate layer, lighten it, set invisiblilty a bit for the upper layer, then use the DODGE/BURN tool.

Edit: Arggg! completely missed the point.
I've heard of this before. Basically, you get the line drawing, save it in another layer.

Then when you need brown lines, for example, you go back to that storage line drawing, hit "Load Channel as Selection" to select all the lines (black) in a marquee box.

With them selected (and unable to bleed outside), go back to your CG layer to color them whatever color you want...

I have been meaning to do a fanart for Planetarian since, despite it being a really good graphic novel, the fanart was far and few :p.

So I took my pencil and I thought I'd just leave it to a sketch... Which ended up with me spending all my freetime today finishing it up... Voila:

The girl is Reverie, a caretaker robot that was left in a Planetarium during an apocalyptic war. The guy is the narrator of the story. Since the tale is told in first-person I never got to see what he looks like, so here's my interpretation :p. Oh, and the quote is directly from the translated version of the game.
