Hmmm... Interesting...

I guess the first one still looks better. I tried playing with the contrast of pantsue but it turned out more glaring than pantsud :p.

Hmmm Im just like SB. I couldnt tell the difference at first, and even when I was going to post this I still couldnt see it. Then I opened both at once... and well I saw... XD
Anyway like almost everyone (heh heh sorry) I thought the first one was better. I really like the brightness of the pic. It looks really natural looking. The second one is too dark for me.... I think I see what you mean now about the colorize function, with your lines. They look very nice. The lines kind of look choppy near panty girls legs though. ^^

Yeah, the lines there are kinda messed up for some reason... Maybe my hand somehow shoke while inking that...

Ooo...new pages for the comic. Sweet stuff. I'm not sure if you meant it that way, but the face where Madam Noir says "pity..." in chapter 3, she looks kind of chirpy or happy. Kind of looked awkwardly out of place in contrast to everything else. >>

Oh and also, not trying to be picky or anything, but ch3 pg34 the guy says "What in places are you?" is that how it's supposed to be like that, like some kind of in-world slang/saying, or was that just a typo. :p

Moooooore pages! I want to find out what's going to happen next!

She usually has a smirk on her face. The out-of-place part is when she has that angry face. Take a hint ^_-.

Well I am feeling very stupid right now. Obviously my brain stopped working... I think my job has made me duller than a pencil... A dull.. Pencil ARG Just listen to me! This is bad.

Anyway I'll fix that :p.

Hmm...still not quite convinced...there's just something odd about that face. Unless she's suddenly not evil anymore. Could there be a plot twist building here and I'm ruining it too early or something? Noooooo

Anyway, that sounds sweet! I'd like to give it a try too ^^.

Ok an update. I've been stuck with Christmas shopping this weekend so I didn't get to update my comic... Just so that my comic fans (however few of them T_T) don't develop any murderous intent, I finished up a practice portrait I started a while back.

This time, I tried some other mix of more vibrant colors... Give it a much softer look than usual. The original scan was just a pencil drawing with VERY few lines, so I mainly relied on shadowing and colors. I'd say it didn't turn out bad.

http://asip.tyrdium.com/gallery/mimiportrait.jpg

I really should try something different next time though. I have a habit of drawing a lot of profiles lately...

Oh, and I just switched webhosts, so I'll need to get you some updated information (cPanel login, FTP account, etc.). The new host is much spiffier and much faster, so it'll make for much more niceness in the long run.

It is whatever you believe it is.

No offense to your prof, but those are some pretty stupid questions. Art is about stimulation. The message is up to the viewer (I'm being serious here).

Oh and I simply did this for practice... Yeah K thx bye!

I thought the questions were stupid too but it actually makes sense. Yea, its about stimulation but i has to be motivated about something.

Ah, that I agree with. Of course, you can't produce something if you have no motivation behind it... But that motivation doesn't necessary have to be a specific message.

Just let it all out, I say.

It looks very pretty the colors are so vibrant, but what happened to her face? (Im not trying to insult you or anything, it just looks like its melting and your work is usually top notch.) Maybe its because her head curves too far out or her nose pointed too far up.

I think that angle got things a bit confused... Add to the thick outlining around that area, it probably messed up the nose and all. I think I see what you're getting at though, thx.

Great coloring! The picture is clear and vibrant. There only are a few nitpicks that I saw.
First of all, as mentioned before, the nose seems slightly skewed. Personally, I think that the location of the mouth only abets this flaw. I think that simply removing the stray lines near the nose and mouth might get rid of this blemish.
Secondly, the right hand seems slightly large. While this is hard to detect without looking at the pic closely, it is still noticable.
Regardless, good job! (I'm sure by now, this seems hypocritical) Now get back to the Annie May project! ;)

Well the more I look at it, the less I am bothered with that nose/face thing actually. Don't know, it doesn't seem that bad o_O.

But yeah I notice the hand. I actually noticed it only after I inked it... It was one of those "Oh Shi-!" moments...

The face looks very concaved. It's very flat as the face as many bumps and angles. When I first looked at it, my first though was "Why is Joan Rivers riding that lion? XD " Her left forearm (our right) seems it's bent at a weird angle. Almost unnatural like.

The coloring is top notch. I love the lion and it's vibrant yellows and reds. The whole painting has that biblical stained glass window feel. Keep at it, Lintus!~

Hmm I think for the arm, it's the shading that got a bit confusing.

But I don't think it's that weird. I mean if I try bending my arm that way myself I think it's pretty natur-

That's one prettyfull picture, especially the eyes. I wish you added my details though, especially on the hair like defining individual strands.

Linuts
03-08-2006, 08:08 PM
Yeah, I think some thinner strands of white/gray would've helped. I was trying to do everything with a single brush size :p. Lazy me :p.

jetfire
03-10-2006, 11:26 AM
I agree, that the hair would look a bit nicer with more individual strands, bringing forth more detail. Also, I don't know if it's just me, but the face looks a little off. What I mean is, if you look at the spot on her face just below her ear where it's starting to come down toward her hair, and look at where her chin would be in proportion to that spot, it makes it look as if she has a really big chin. Of course, it's being covered up, but the distance between her face below her ear and her chin seem off to me. It'd be a lot easier if I could show you this in person, so you may not understand what I mean. I guess the other factor that would add to this is how high her mouth is, and how much space seems left below for her chin. So I don't know if you'd have to move the nose or mouth lower, or reshape the chin/jaw bone. Or maybe even if the scarf was lifted a bit higher, that illusion would be eliminated.

But hey, maybe it's just my eyes playing tricks on me. Just thought I'd throw in my two cents. On the bright side, your character has awesome eyes, and you chose great colours for the picture. Very soft and cool.

Linuts
03-14-2006, 09:48 AM
Ah, I think I see what you mean. It's probably because the shading around that area isn't dark enough, as that should be where the neck is...

I think that's what you are pointing out o_O. Thanks for the heads up! ^^

Shadowmage
03-27-2006, 06:12 PM
Personally, I really like the pic. While the image is not as sharp as could have been, it makes it seem as though it was made under the impressionist style. Since each strand of hair is not distinct, there is a subtle angelic feel about it. Great work!

Sweet lineart. I can't really pick on anatomy or porportion 'cause most of it is covered in flowing cloth. But what I can see is grade A.

I'd go with red/greyscale combo on the figure. I'm not good with backrounds, however, so your on your own. Maybe Tyrdium's cobblestone idea would work?

The depth in the CG by spilled milk is nice but the detail of the clothing design is lost a bit because of the two greens. I'm wondering what colours you have in mind. I'll be back to see it ^^

I'm PC tablet racist :D it came from when i didn't have a scanner, so i was looking around comic sites and found a couple of tutorials saying they did everything on their computer, no paper. So i was like "OMG must lern so i can do it too."
So i tried to mimic their tutorials, but i soon got frustrated tryiing to copy it all with a mouse <_<

later I found out they were using PC tablets >_<!!
It's like making a comic and having people tell you it sucks because it doesn't compare to *insert fancey web comic*'s art. Then you look into the comic and check out about the author and find they have taken university art courses -_-

It fuels my hatred for PC tablets <_<

The hate runs deep >_>

strange to hate a tool... a tool is always neutral its the people that utilise the tool that bring forward the art. Using a tablet is like using a pencil and paper or a brush.. you have to master it before you can get good with it. And there is still praise for a good story and mouse cg.. also mouse cg is praised because it more difficult then using a tablet.

Besides often its more about the story then the pictures anyways. The pictures can attract people but the story keeps them reading. So one nice cover could do the trick... So if you have an awsome story ask one of those that mastered the tablet to do the cover and do the rest yourself. ;)

Hey Linuts, see you are doing better and better huh?! especially with the tablet. Great play thingy isnt it?.. I still have to find time to master it.. It is hard when you are addicted to anime to find time to draw lol.

The depth in the CG by spilled milk is nice but the detail of the clothing design is lost a bit because of the two greens. I'm wondering what colours you have in mind. I'll be back to see it ^^

Asch.

Oh noes! AA's been hax0red! Who is this genius posting insightful posts on my thread?! Out! Out with you! You're making me feel dumb~! No.. Wait.. apsaps! You're alive?! I thought I buried you deep enough so that you'll never...
...

apsaps! You're alive!

It's good to see you here again. Care to help us out by posting some more works of yours? ^_-

BTW, I was actually going for a more crimson, but dark, tone for the image. Well, once I'm done with it you'll know what I mean.

Oh and PerfectDeath.

Most of the outlines I've done are done with ink. I've rarely outlined with the tablet since it's more time consuming for me. But when it comes to coloring, the tablet is much better to work with. More freedom and control than the mouse.

Again, like apsaps said, it really depends on your own preferences and skills. Most pros can draw just as good on a tablet as they do on paper. Doing everything on the computer has the advantage of making things cleaner... But unless you are very skilled with programs like Painter, most CGs lack the life and texture of actual works drawn on paper.

Oh, and artwork quality means nothing when it comes to webcomics. Just look at Order of the Stick for example. (I have to admit, though. I've seen a few webcomics that gained enough popularity to be published... Even though their art and story were crap :p).

I'm not ranting about my hate for how people can use it, it's just that The artists would say it was all done on the computer and they never said anything about a tablet. So when I would try to lern from their tutorial, it would just be a complete waste because I don't have a tablet and a mouse can't use some of the movements a tablet can.

And I don't hate PC tablets, if you look you can find those emoticons, when i'm seriouse I don't use the happy ones. When i do use the happy ones it usualy means i'm either sarcastic (=P) or exagurating (:D). This was done to provide humour to a subject I like to poke fun at.
But Alas, there is always someone who ignores my sarcasim so they can post a witty comentary making me look like an Idiot.

The deal with PC tablets, is that not everyone has one, they tend to be costy. So I don't like it when tutorials are full of PC tablet content without telling you that it was done on a PC tab. It's one of my pet peeves. Kinda makes it feel like I got smitted because I'm not cool enough to buy one :D . <--- see the smilie, exaguration.

no redeeming yourself <_<

hahaha, i just thought of the coolest PC tab parodie ^_^ .
If you ever watched those anime were theres the main character who is left out of the tech fad and doesn't have the new "in thing". But then manages to get one (either a top secret superpowered one and/or is just very talanted with it) and starts beating people with mroe experience with it.
Just throw PC tabs in there :D . Oh and u gotta have ur angst rival and a love interest as well.

Lin-poo, it's been too long. I just love that drawing you did of the guy with his hand stretching up to the viewer. Proportions are dead on and that one hand is nothing short of perfection. My only complaint is that the hand holding the staff is a little...wonky? I don't know how to describe it.

Anyway, just dropping by to give you some love. It's hard to get back into AA when you've been gone for a long time; I find I have very little to say about anything nowadays :p. When I start drawing again, *imitates Schwartzenegger* I'll be back.

Love you!

I came to see if you had something new just to find.. Nothing was added since O_O has Linuts left the building? Has the last of the mohicans burried his axe?

With a message of smitty one of the allready fallen mohicans at the end of this thread... I too lay down flowers at this memorial.. perhaps it will be revived?.. who knows...

When the hell did I become an Indian?

Uuuh... Sorry to the people that still visit this thread.

Apparently I have not received any notification for new posts for this thread, so I have missed some of the new posts.

Smitty
Oh crap, it's been more than four months since your last post. Well, if you're still there, be sure to visit more often. If anything, I've kinda lost interest of Art Class because you don't show up anymore :D (of course, among many others). Everyone's so busy with real life nowadays (me included of course).

Well whenever *imitates Schwartzenegger* you'll be back in the art scene, post your stuff here!

I have not had the chance to put my fingers on the drawing board lately T_T. It's a sad sad situation T_T.

But, I have been able to doodle a bit once in a while. I can post some of my more abstract stuff if anyone's interested.

Otherwise, there is something else I'm working on, and you'll see it when it's ready ^^.

Oh, and speak for yourself, fellow mohican. Chief Pencil-Waving is not pleased with your lack of offerings. -_-

P.S: See you on msn ^^.
