Ah, I read part of it in one of the Tokyopop samplers I got at AnimeBoston. It's actually pretty decent, but I don't think I'd spend my money on it yet... I have other series I want to get first...

what is this manga about? it sounds like it makes fun of animals! :(

It's about this little petshop in Chinatown that sells... exotic animals with a strong contract... It's pretty hard to explain, so I'd suggest you read it for yourself.

It's PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), and organization that I loathe about as much as I hate Hummers. (Trust me, that's a lot).

Don't make assumptions based on titles, especially in the anime world. Pet Shop of Horrors doesn't make fun of animals, it just includes some particularly horrific legendary animals, like the basilisk.

Anyway, I like Petshop of Horrors quite a lot (as does my little brother). It's very creepy and atmospheric, and D is a fascinating character. Not to mention as a shounen-ai fangirl, the impending romance between D and Leo is very fun.

Very cool stuff. The relationship between the petshop owner and the cop is hilarious. As for the release calender thingie, I'm pretty sure there's at least 7 out.

Introduction
In a smoke-filled alley in Chinatown lies Count D's Pet Shop, but the pets sold here aren't your everyday variety. The mysterious Count D sells 'Love and Dreams' in the form of magical creatures. But the prevailing rule is 'buyer beware,' as each pet comes with a contract. Break the terms and Count D won't be held accountable for what happens.

In the tradition of The Twilight Zone and Tales from the Crypt, each volume of Pet Shop of Horrors collects four stories of terror and wonder, each involving a different creature ('pet'). Connecting the tales is the continuing story of Leon, an American cop who has linked D's shop to a series of seemingly unrelated bizarre deaths. The manga series has also spawned an anime show (from Madhouse) which has been released here in the U.S. by Urban Vision.

Yep, that's it. The sampler has this human/rabbit combination thing (I think) go insane because it has a piece of candy or something... It was strange, but surprisingly decent...

This is one of my favorite series. D is an awesome character, at times cute and at others almost evil... which makes for a fascinating and mysterious combination. The artwork's easy on the eyes and can get pretty elaborate in some areas.

As for the release dates, I believe that volume 7 comes out next month... I think on July 8th, but I could be wrong about the exact date. The first six are out, though, and they are all great. I'd really recommend this title; it's a lot of fun.

I'd also recommend the anime, if you want to check that out. It was what introduced me into this series and really spurred on my interest in anime. Basically the anime takes four different stories straight from the manga and animates them; it does a nice job, the animation is good, and it really captures a lot of the essence of the show. It's a nice way to try out this title, and it's a bargain too, since it's all collected onto one dvd.

Yep. We're up to 6 and I just got it. I love this series. D is SO awesome and his clothes rock as well. He has beautiful clothes. I might wear some of Orcot's crazy shirts too. :P
Anyway, you should definitely get more of the series. It's well worth it.

Nah, don't wait and buy them all at once. Buy as many as you can whenever they go on sale, and you'll save money in the long run.

Yes. I did read it. The story creative and engaging. But....Count D is very feminine (who is a guy)........ -.-''
Perhaps because the author is a female, you know, females tend to do things like that.

Resurrection! It's ALIVE!

Apparently, among other anime live action adaptations, they're making a LA Petshop of Horrors movie!

...... I honestly can't picture it.
