It was okay. Not exceptionally bad, but not exceptionally good, either. I'll put it in my "meh" section.
The dub was fairly decent, though.

I really hated it. I thought it was just horrible and boring. I was even a fan of Starship Troopers, and yet I still couldn't get into this anime.

In my book it was okay at best. It was kind of a grim reminder of war for me and the sacrifices made by those involved.

Well, it wasn't terrible in many aspects; it was just plain boring. I mean, the C-SPAN channel is more exciting than Blue Gender.

I would call it the 'C' student of anime, not good, not bad - just kind of there taking up space and maintaining the status quo

It was good. It gave good ideas/concepts about society, but nothing that hasn't been seen before. The only new thing that comes to mind is the "Earth saving itself" idea. However, the romance was REALLY forced and I didn't care much for ANY of the characters. Some characters I liked and can relate with only made a bried appearance and did very little for the overall plot the screen time they were given. I just felt bad that they died... nothing beyond that. The mechs were unispiring and the action was bland at best. It did manage to make an impression as far as the mood goes, but even that is ruined eventually. The ending was severely rushed for a series that flowed rather carefreely for a long period of time. I'd say about a 71%.

It's something that I would only watch once. To me it was just a normal series with an average story. Its not good, and not bad.

Like most of the other people here, it was not terrible but I would not reccomend it to anyone. And wtf is up with the chick walking topless during the credits? WIERD!

BUMP!
I like the discussion on the other extremely old, necroed threat much better.
I will stick up for Blue Gender any day of the week, especially for those who are fond of the horror genre. This anime really has it all with the exception of budget. Hence the reason the creators felt the reason to stick in needless fanservice to try and bump the sales of a production; even they probably felt it was lacking.

It was all right, but nothing special. You can get the entire series (plus the crappy movie) for about $60 in a boxset that looks like a book. I wouldn't bother with the movie, though, as it just crams 26 episodes into about two hours and greatly alters the ending.
In the series, Seno Miyagi is literally ripped to shreds (by bullets) when the people stationed on Second Earth revolt. In the movie, he shoots himself.

Wow... most people said it was either horrible or boring as hell...
I, for one, thought the anime was decent and not boring at all. Well, this is my preference, but anyways I guess you should go with the majority or check it out yourself. You might like something that most people wouldn't... Who knows.

Hey now, I thought Blue Gender was very good. There are obvious areas to pick at but that is more from the animation side then the story side. Those who are looking for a mecha anime with constant strategic military strikes, flying and posing in mid air, followed up with a barrage of explosions will find this boring. This is more Sci-Fi, Horror, or Drama then it is action (though the fight scenes are above average and there is a decent amount of them).

I thought it had decent potential as a war drama, but blew a lot of that potential with the rather forced romance and a cast that it was hard to care about.
It isn't a horror show IMO, unless you count it as a "splatterfest," rather I think it's a sci-fi action show that is similar to Aliens, just not as good. If I had to compare it to another anime, I'd say that it's got positively uncanny similarities to Gunparade March in terms of setting, plot, and even strengths and weaknesses - they both start out with lots of good war drama potential, and both squander it with bad romances.
