I am becoming a fast Action type fan, and I must say I haven't really seen any action animes yet that the fight scenes totally blew me away or made me rewind it 3 or 4 times, so I wanted to see other's favorites and/or bests. What was your favorite or best fight scene that you have ever seen before?

In the begining of samurai x when Seijuro Hiko sliced the guy up really fast. I just found it to cool.

all of the action in R.O.D. and R.O.D. TV is just amazing, it's a little short-lived, but it's amazing (nancy v. nancy fight anyone?). I also liked the action in Tsuiokuhen and some of the stuff in Noir.

I thought the action scenes in Cowboy Bebop KOHD were pretty tight(very well animated to boot)!

The fight between Spike, Vicious and his boyos in "Ballad of Fallen Angels" is key. Not quite as good, but Vash vs. Monev the Gale in the "Diablo" episode of Trigun kicks ass as well.

pretty much all of tsuiokohen. damn straight

Tsuiokohen was awesome, but I really didnt think there were really any "fights". It was mostly Kenshin killing people fast and cool-looking.

If I remember right (and don't necessarily hold this to me) the battle in Ninja Scroll where he fights the blind dude was pretty cool. Not as cool as the Spike vs. Vicious, but cool all the same

in episode 30(around it, i forget the exact number) of Kenshin
where Kenshin fights Fujita Gorou(the police/Shinsengumi guy) and Kenshin's hair came out of it's ponytail
Kenshin just looked too badass in that fight ^_^
in FLCL when haruko and canti fight the giant hand
it was just fun to watch

I have this OVA called shadow skill which was actually pretty ok but it has some great fight scenes in it.
P.S. has anyone else seen this show i kinda liked and and am wondering if there is more.

In Rurouni Kenshin either when Kenshin was facing Sojiro (I think thats his name) or the fight after that when Kenshin was facing Shishio, those were two good fights.

My favorite fight scene was between Ryuhou and Kazuma in s-CRY-ed, the one right before they both lost their memory and got lost from society. But pretty much any fight scene in s-CRY-ed is pretty good.
Badass Fight Scenes:
1) Rurouni Kenshin: Kenshin (in Battousai mode) vs Saitou Hajime
2) Cowboy Bebop Knockin on Heaven's Door: Spike vs Vincent at the tower near the end
3) Hajime no Ippo: Many of them, but Ippo vs Sendo (2nd time) is amazing
4) Trigun: Last battle of Vash vs Knives (who knew there could be such awesome ways to fight with guns other than just the ordinary "shoot em until dead")
5) RK Tsuiokohen: uh....all of them :D
Nothing like a good ol' fashioned (or original) fight scene to fulfill our violence quota.

In Tsuiokohen when Shinsen Gumi stormed the Ikeda house and cut down the revolutionaries. It was so well choreographed and the background song, The Wars of the Last Wolves fit the action so well, I was reminded of Gladiator's opening scene.

wow, in my obsession with R.O.D. i forgot so many awesome fight scenes, some of the stuff in Voices of a Distant star is actually REALLY good too, it was mostly a drama, but DAAAMN was some of it cool! (and all stuff you guys have mentioned)

I think the fight scenes in Noir w/ Chloe were so cool. Martial arts combined with weapons. They also had awesome fight seems almost every other episode. Second would have to be Samurai X. Splitting guys in half just looks awesome.

The first time Naruto went into the fox mode, most of the RK fight, mostly shihio fight, the hiko verse the big guy fight, and the fight where kenshin is fighting the guy with like 5 swords and at the end he gets his new sword and does one of the most badass attacks

The last Bebop eps. when Spike killed Vicious then died him self. Vash and Knives were really cool too.Wonder if Knives is a good guy now.

Then again the Spike and Vicious thing was hot too....well anytime Sike is fighting is good.hm...

In addition to what everybody has said, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, the episode (forgot which one) where the major had to fight the new military mobile armor suit (the one where her body got so messed up she had to get it replaced). And hell, just about any action scene in that series.
edit: mmm... I almost forgot about Hajime no Ippo. So many good fights - Ippo vs Mashiba, Ippo vs Sendo, Kimura vs Mashiba, etc.

I have to say FLCL how Haruko fights each of the different robots in the episodes. I fav is the robot that comes out of Ninamari and it eats the curry. Also I have to say the figth at the end of Akira, between Tesuo and Kanada, great fight scene. Love the craziness of them both. My favs! Gotta go watch them now!

In RK, the series of fight between Kenshin with the good guys & Shishio with his Jyuppon Gattana in the Kyoto eps. And Kenshin's fight with Saitou. :GD
i'd have to say when ohan was fighting cell jr and cell. when naruto turns wolf while fighting haku and grappler baki those are some of my fav fight scenes

Everything Macross!!!(that Ive seen so far)
Macross: great action sceans (but keep in mind that this is very old)
Macross 2: not as good as the original but still good
Macross the Movie: very good, but the camera dosent always follow it
Macross Plus: awsome just plain awsome
Macross 7: quite good, but they used alot of reused cells
Macross Zero: best mecha action I've ever seen (thats saying alot)

ROD scenes
Cowboy Bebop KoHD (Spike vs Electra was total showboating! Yeah Spike, you're the badass!)
Cowboy Bebop Episode 5 "Ballad of Fallen Angels"----The first time I ever viewed the church scene I didn't breathe till it was over. Probably the most realistic gunfight scene I've ever laid my weary eyes on.

If those are the kind of fight scenes that you want, then you should definately watch Naruto. All of the fight scenes are great, but these two stand out by far:
Sasuke vs Orochimaru (ep 30)
Rock Lee vs Gaara (eps 48-50)
Naruto has some of the best, most fluid fight scenes I've ever watched. You should check it out if you haven't already.

I like the fight animation in Naruto, i just don't like that they choose to put in all this random information and stupid talking during the fights, it greatly detracts from the anime and is what made me give it up completely. There's better fighting scenes in better anime that are completely uninterrupted, but i will say that Rock Lee has some nice moves ;)
Well when it comes to action in animes, I've watched:
Berserk
Rurouni Kenshin
Dragonball Z
Samurai Deeper Kyo
Inuyasha (about half of the released eps)
Tenchi Muyo! OVA 1 + 2
RahXephon
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Cowboy Bebop
Trigun
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
Macross Plus
Akira
Ninja Scroll
Hellsing
Teknoman
Full Metal Panic
(as well as others I can't remember)
I can truly say that none of the action scenes in any of those animes has given me as much enjoyment as the ones in Naruto. The only ones that come close are the Lambda Drive fights in Full Metal Panic. They were awesome.
When Alucard fought Incognito in Hellsing, and the battle between Char and Amuro in Char's Counterattack was nice.

Some spoilers, not really though. You've been warned.
-------------
FLCL - Episode 2 - The entire fight scene in the second half of the episode. When Red Canti blocked that robot with one hand and countered with a triple-spin-with-a-kick combo, I just couldn't stop replaying it. Defies the laws of physics, but what the hell.
ROD OVA - Yomiko's fight with the Buddhist. I can't forget when Yomiko's "stack of paper" burned bit-by-bit with each of that guy's hits until all was left was a piece of paper.
Cowboy Bebop - Quite a few memorable fights, especially when Spike took on Vicious and his gang in the church (I think, saw it so long ago ^^).
Talking about this makes me want to watch them again... :D

Wow, most of my favorite killing scenes were already mentioned. Nice job, guys. However, one failed to make any of your lists that I believe to be worthy of nomination:
---Spoiler for End of Evangelion---
Asuka's final battle. That was a thing of beauty, and the way she died was brutally awesome. I loved that scene to death.

In Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children there is this awesome (to me) scene, actually two scenes, where the whole group fight Neo Bahamut in one of the scenes, followed quickly by a motorcycle battle between Cloud and two Sephiroth Clones. And the fight between Cloud and Kadaj, and the continuation of the fight with Sephiroth.
These are two of my favorite fight scenes, but they are very much fantasy and matrix style fighting, so if that's not your cup of tea, then don't watch it or anything.

There are a lot of good ones already listed so I will try and include some of my favorites that were not mentioned:
Appleseed (2004): This movie is action packed but the best scenes are right in the beginning with Deunan vs. the assassin robots and the fight seen during the song "Dive for you."
Gungrave: Brandon Heat vs. Bunji Kugashira.
Samurai Champloo: Just about the only reason to watch this series. Plenty of stylish action, the battle that sticks out the most is in the restaurant in the first episode. Or just about any time Mugen did his spin kick.
Escaflowne: My favorites are the ones with Van vs. Dilandeau at the end of episodes 7 and 13.

I agree the last episode of Trigun the fight between Vash and Knives, but alos the fight between Vash and Legato is a great fight. Some fights in Blood+ are awesome. There's one in the snow with Saya and Chripotera its awesome. Outlaw Star has some moments. But I agree with Akuhei the fights in R.O.D. are probably the best i've seen in anime.

This is a pretty old thread but I'm surprised these didn't come up...
Many of the fights in Angelic Layer are superb, but Hikaru vs Wizard and Hikaru vs Mao were both great even by that series' high standard for fight scenes.
Both of Porco Rosso's dogfights with Curtiss were amazing, but I'm not sure they count as "fight scenes" in the sense of martial arts or whatnot. Their fistfight was pretty awesome too, however, in its own ways.
However, I'll echo one thing - Read or Die OVA and TV both had superb action sequences and are pretty hard to beat when it comes to creativity and choreography.

Currently, I'm watching Samurai Champloo in full and that just has showboating sword techniques all around. But, like half of the others in this thread have been saying, Read or Die takes the cake with original, creative fight sequencing. Some may be short but man are they sweet.

Any fight in FFVII: Advent Children is awesome. The fight in the forest was spectacular, the fight on the motorcycles in the tunnel was fun, as well as the fight against Bahumut. And the final fight. Priceless music.
The Vash vs Knives fight in Trigun was very fun and well choreographed. Like it's been said, it's an original gunfight that involves a little strategy.
Spike vs. Vincent, and Spike vs Vicious, in the Cowboy Bebop series and Movie. The Spike vs Vincent fight was very well animated, and the Spike vs Vicious fight, had cooler moves, in my opinion.
In Naruto, I loved the Naruto vs. Sasuke fight. It was one of the most well animated fights in the series (Mike, how could you forget to add Naruto vs. Sasuke? It had the exact same animators and epic scale as the other fights).
In Kenshin, check out the Kenshin vs. Saitoh fight, Kenshin vs Cho, Kenshin vs Soujiro, and Kenshin vs Shishio. Those were probably the best fights in the series.
Also, in Full Metal Alchemist, I loved the Ed vs. Greed fight. Parts of that battle were very well choreographed and animated.
I don't know if I would really call it a fight, but in Bleach, just before Ichigo fights Byakuya, he takes down 3 vice captains in a matter of seconds. The whole moment just looked badass.
Hajime No Ippo also had some good fights, for the 14 episodes that I saw. I also recommend the Brandon vs Bunji fight from Gungrave.
And who can forget the fight in Evangelion where Asuka vs. all the Angels (I think that's what those white enemies were called)?

Probably because the episode hadn't aired back then. :XD:
But I agree. That fight owned. And I agree about all the fights from the Bebop movie, too. Especially the climatic one on the tower.
Lots of stuff from Champloo - all of them were stunningly animated and choreographed.
And it's not anime, but Superman Vs Captain Marvel in the Justice League Unlimited episode 'Clash'. Absolutely amazing. JLU fights > most anime fights.

I guess that would make sense, since that post was in 2004. I thought I checked the last few pages and they were from the last few days, but maybe I had this thread confused from a couple previous threads that I was looking at.
Yeah, the champloo stuff was cool, although there wasnt any specific memorable fights that I can recall.

just to add, i also like the Full Metal Panic The Second Raid's action scenes. fast and really cunning but not as much as Rurouni Kenshin which i think really is the best in this criteria.
The fight with Dio in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure :D, out of the original 6 OVAs 3 of them were just to cover the fight against him, its a fight filled with action, car chases, tragic deaths, cool hand to hand fights, and lets not forget the truck scene.

Jotaro "vs." D'Arby the Gambler was honestly better than the Dio fights in my opinion. Seriously one of the best standoffs I have ever seen in anime as a whole.

Oh, the D'Arby is defenetly one of my favorites but i didnt mention it since i thought the thread was asking about action fights. There was plenty of tension and in the D'arby fight and has a unexpected conclusion, people that like games of chance will defently appreciate it more.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Angelic Layer, that show was just full of incredible fights, but the fight between Blanche and Hikaru was one of the best fight's I have ever seen in an anime.
Also the fight between Athena and some nameless Bunny Angel, the one where they fight on a mountain beside a lake, was so beautiful that I almost cried, seriously.
Oh and Noein has some pretty cool fights, most notably the one between Karasu and Isuka.

2 Many 2 pick from so many good Fight scenes
Post count doesn't really matter, does it?
Anyhow...
I'm impressed no one's mentioned Noir. Anything that has a scene where a girl stabs a guy through the eyes with his sunglasses or through the neck with the wheel axle of a toy truck deserves props. Not to mention the mere thought of being garrotted with a necktie. Or getting hit by a peice of schrapnel from a fire extinguisher.
Also, ROD OVA. The final fight was mind-blowing, and I actually watched it twice in a row the first time I saw it.
Advent Children also has some amazing scenes. Any scene that you literally get chills watching deserves props. No matter how bad the guitar music in that movie was (and it WAS) the action scenes were mind-blowing. Tifa's fight in the church and Yazoo and Loz vs. Reno and Rude were standouts, as was Cloud vs. Sephiroth, but that last one loses points on sheer insanity. They cut through BUILDINGS people. BUILDINGS. And I normally LIKE insane fights.
Speaking of insane fights, FLCL. Every fight in it suited the show. That is to say, it was randomly insane but hella fun to watch with great musical accompaniment.

I mentioned Angelic Layer but my picks for favorite scenes out of it all were Hikaru/Wizard and Hikaru/Mao. Those two fights had some really intense martial arts action and weren't one-sided the way some other fights were.
Another show I haven't seen mentioned though is Hellsing. The fight between Alucard and one of the Valentine brothers was nicely done, and the whole show just drips with style.
Also Gunsmith Cats, both the car chase scene and the "duel" between May and Rally and Radinov in the museum were great sequences, not just because of the great action but because of how cunning and crafty all three of them are with the way they fight.

Let's see...I have several favorite fight scenes, so let's just pick out a few:
I've got to agree with everyone here who said Read or Die. Though most of the specifics given were for the OAV, the TV series has some really kickass ones as well. Maggie vs. Wong, anyone? Or pretty much anything with Yomiko in it in that series.
End of Evangelion was also mentioned, where Asuka fights the Eva series. As far as massively creepy enemies go, they've got to be near the top. Asuka tears them apart (sometimes literally), then they get back up and smile before eating her. Well co-ordinated, well animated, and still one of the best in my mind.
Naruto's got it's fair share of awesome fights (at least, earlier on). I've got to say that the first fight with Zabuza's one of my favorites. They were actually thinking out their tactics, as opposed to what happens later on. Otherwise, the Gaara and Lee fight was great, as was pretty much every fight scene Shino's been in. All two of them.
Still, I've got to say some of my favorite fights come from One Piece. Setting aside some of the more recent fights in Enies (which I am massively enjoying, but they're not done yet. Otherwise, Monster Chopper'd be on this list), One Piece has great, well planned fights. Luffy vs. Crocodile would be the first that comes to my mind. Yeah, Luffy's fights before had been good, but with the threat of Crocodile having loomed so large for so long, when it finally came to fighting him, I was not let down. It was the first major fight of the series, I'd say, because the arc involving the enemy was longer and more involved than any before (except possibly Arlong). Another one that I tend to think of as the best is Robin's match against Yama. Maybe I'm biased, as a Robin fanboy, but that fight and Robin's utter annihilation of Yama and her anger were awesome to behold. With such a unique tactic, the moves were creative and one of the best fights, in my mind.
I'd have to say, though, neither of those are my favorite fight from One Piece. My favorite would have to be when Bellamy tried to take on Luffy. For a villain who lastes so short a time, he did his best to make people hate him. Luffy in serious mode has always been among the coolest of characters in anime, and this was him in fine form. After taking Bellamy down with one hit, he reaches back, puts on his hat, and turns to look at the minions, demanding the stolen gold, all still in serious mode. That's awesome.

Hmmm...theres two ways about this.
If we're going high quality animation route where the fight isnt particularly astounding but well done then I'd say Mugen/Jin in Ep1 Champloo. Or some of the latter Fullmetal battles.
If you wanna go the 'I'm screaming for more blood, more action and more everything' then I gotta say i liked the 3 way between Tsunade/Jiraiya and Orochimaru. Just to see a previously all-powerful bad guy get punched repeatedly in the face by a girl makes me cheer.
I would say the Frieza battle, but my nose might grow a meter and I'll burst into flames.

FLCL has some fluid fight scenes. Best music ever.
Cowboy Bebop, for it's technical detailing in body movement.

I've still not seen that much anime, but from what I have seen I'd have to say:
Rurouni Kenshin - the first time Kenshin fights Aoshi (well, every fight in RK really but this one stands out for me),
Porco Rosso - Marco vs the American pilot (his name escapes me),
Naruto - Rock Lee vs Gaara in the Chuunin exam,
Cowboy Bebop - Spike vs Vincent on the train (from the movie).
Yoruichi
06-14-2006, 07:08 AM
The best fights i've seen so far are those from the anime Bleach. Examples, Kurosaki Ichigo versus Zaraki Kenpachi, Kuchiki Byakuya and Abarai-Renji, Yoruichi Shihouin versus Soi Fong, etc.
Legato
06-19-2006, 04:59 PM
Well - true they've already been named but oh well:
Vash vs. Knives - as said, who knew a gunfight could be so creative?
Spike vs. Vicious
Spike vs. Vincent - both simply beautiful
Every R.O.D. OVA right scene
Harucko and Canti vs. The Giant Hand - both FLCL and RoD are just wacky
Asuka vs. The New Angel Models - Gets points for making me revel in Asuka's badassness and immedietely sob for her pitifully everytime.
Tifa vs. Loz - Aside from how fluid it is - the freeze frame from their faces when Tifa is standing on the wall and Loz grins at her are just too perfect. Loz looks like he is having fun and "playing" while Tifa looks exasperated and hurt, almost like she is about to cry.
And not sur eif this counts for it's shortness but....Kyo vs. Hatsuharu in Furuba looked neat to me.
the best fight sceen in my opinion is the last fight in adventchildren between
cloud and sephiroth

The best fights i've seen so far are those from the anime Bleach. Examples, Kurosaki Ichigo versus Zaraki Kenpachi, Kuchiki Byakuya and Abarai-Renji, Yoruichi Shihouin versus Soi Fong, etc.
All bleach fight scenes seemed like slideshows with excessive bleeding/grunting/admiration for the other's powers. the fight scenes in School Rumbles have more frames than fight scenes in Bleach.
best fight scenes i've seen are from Eureka Seven. those reffing/fighting scene couldn't have been done cheaply.

...I don't watch much action...
but Samurai Champloo had awesome fights.
The beginning stands out the most.
And because I'm a Rock Lee fan, Rock Lee verses Gaara was cool. You got to see what Lee could do.
And, of course, Drunk Lee was simply amazing :XD:
And...uh...Kenshin vs Saito was nifty...
oh! and the battles in Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A's were memorable. Such cool spell thengs and video game-like music. Some people need to make a Nanoha fighting game! It can be doujin!
Advent Children and Street Fighter 2 anime had some pretty good fight scenes.
Almost forgot about about Street Fighter 2, the fight between Vega and Chun Li is specially worth mentioning, one of the best from the movie and also a favorite of mine.

In Girls Bravo season 2, in the very last episode actually, Kirie has a great fight against one of the villains - one of maybe three fights in the entire series, it's a fanservice comedy not a fighting anime. It's unfortunately kinda short, but it's one of the better hand to hand martial arts fights I've seen, and it didn't seem like they cut any corners in animating it either. A big part of what makes it memorable is that it looked very realistic (ie, the laws of physics weren't being defied or anything) for a fight in anime.

Err, I don't know... The fight scenes in FFVII: Advent Children is just too much for me. It's a visual spectacle, but it's so blistering fast that I can barely make out what just happened! Plus, the fights scenes are generally too overdone... seriously, Spiderman would have wet his crotch when he sees them jumping and scaling buildings with bare hands!!!
But I gotta give credit to Ghost In The Shell's and GITS: SAC's fight scenes where Motoko went head-to-head with the military tank and an Armor Suit respectively. The former is just so brutally wicked, while the latter just makes you tremble with adrenaline rush...
cloud v. sephiroth----FFVII AV
Adamask v. haru----- FLCL
Alucard v. father anderson------ Hellsing
D v. the count (forgot his name)------ Vampire Hunter D bloodlust
The 100 man battle------- Berserk

u want cool action see the last episode of cowboy bebop, almost solid fighting...and the end blew me away...almost , plust samuai shamploo, episode...14, misguided miscreants, after mugen is crippled, he goes after...mukuro, i think, and slises through him like butter, using his swords sheath as a crutch, and just for drama, his sister begs him to killl her because every one she ever loved 9except mugen) is dead, mugen just walks past...badass huh? and if not i suck. see it for yourself on august 12 on adult swim...i think. oh and the fight between falme alchemist roy mustang and fuhrer bradley in episode 50 of FMA.

OH, I remember watching this back around 7 years ago... watching it just brings out the childhood fanboy in me. Dammit man, how could you lose to Chun Li, Vega???
Anyway, another contender for best fight in Street Fighter II is the final climatic battle between General Bison and Ryu + Ken (http://youtube.com/watch?v=xSwE58i4bjQ&search=street%20fighter%20anime%20bison).

Yes the scene where Cloud and Sephiroth fight is good. And my butt is just fine where it is thank you.

That's easy, Vega lost simply because Chun Li is a lot more popular. The last fight in the street Fighter anime was pretty good too, but i prefer it in the original japanese since it has a better song.

Recently, I've seen a few shows with awesome action/fight scenes. The one that takes the lead is Black Lagoon. It's all about the amazing shootouts. It's very fun to watch Revi walk into a place where she's vastly outnumbered, and see her pull off very smooth and fluid moves, plastering everyone to the walls with her guns. And it's not just regular stand still shootouts. Most of the time, she's shooting with style. Also, Blood+ has shown some very smooth animation with it's fight scenes. Probably the most fun ones to watch were the fights that involved the artificially created vampires (I forget their names. It was something simple, and they all wore black cloaks), and at least in one point, Haji fought them. At first, I thought the element of super speed would be cheesy (and an excuse to not put as much money into producing the animation), but it only added another coolness factor, as people were flying all over the place. It was kind of like Advent Children.

The fight between Cloud and Sephiroth is quite exhilarating, I must admit, but it is quite otherwise for the other between Cloud and Kadaj with his cronies (all of the fights between them). Graphics are undeniably topnotch, but unlike Cloud VS Sephiroth, Cloud VS Kadaj fights are just way too fast; breakneck fast! Rather than pumping me up with adrenalin, they induce me with migraine because I can barely make out just what they were actually doing. The Cloud VS Sephiroth fight is slower but NOT ultimately slow, as it takes its time to vividly show what they did step-by-step within the fight itself.
Fights that are in high speed but not in breakneck speed. Cloud VS Sephiroth takes the cakes for the movie, oh plus the first fight involving Tifa in the cathedral.
P.S. Thanks JOJO, for the hint.

Umm...okay.
I only briefly mentioned Advent Children at the end of my post. You do know that I was talking about Blood+ and Black Lagoon, and hardly mentioned Advent Children, right? I only said that a few certain fight scenes in Blood+ just reminded me a bit of Advent Children, just because some of them (the defect vampires and Chevaliers) fought like the one guy that could have those super speed bursts in AC. The fights in Blood+ arent as blisteringly fast as AC though, but I will say that I could easily follow everything that was going on in AC. It may have been totally unrealistic, but I found the combat to be very fluid and smooth. Kind of like a Jackie Chan fight scene.
Now that I think about it, werent you meaning to reply to Kyou Sohma?

No worries, it's not directed solely at you. I'm just saying it in general to get it out of my chest. Apart from Cloud VS Sephiroth, the other fights just don't click for me. I just need to get the monkey off my back. That's all :rolleyes2 !

Just watched Conqueror of Shamballa and the fight between Uber-Gluttony and Wrath was definitely badass. it's badassness was surely helped by the unfortunate and grotesque end to the battle.
