I just want to know what your IQ is. I'm not just talking from one of those 10-40 question ones you take on the internet. I mean real licensed tests for IQ. Mine is 141.

Hahaha I beat you 146.... My brother is so sad, he got a 149, one point away from becoming certified....

I took one my sophomore year and scored a 149, took one last year and I scored a 164. They told me that because of age, most teenagers score around 120-140 (if higher than normal), though in reality it would be larger... wtf? I didn't pay attention to the details, or they were BSing me. :P
My brother got a 90. XD Though I think 100-110 is average? Still funny...
I took an online one and got 123, it was crap. -.-

Ah, IQs. You might think that numbers have no significant meaning at all. It's an abstraction after all. Like all Maths it seems that numeric entities are so detached from real life. Consider the number 6. By itself it implies nothing. But if it's applied to my IQ it makes great sense. Now I'd better not click Subm...

Ok... if you guys want to play the numbers game that is all fine and dandy, but it would be a good idea if you told what type of test you took, because there is more than one and they are graded in a different manner. Is it the Weschler test and scale? Or is it the Stanford-Binet one?
Here is the link that explains the basics:
http://members.shaw.ca/delajara/IQBasics.html
For those who are wondering:
Weschler: 130 or 97.725 percentile.
Rita: I think they were BSing you. While it is true that by being in school could make you a bit more prone to a better grade, 120-140 for most kids is way too high. That would mean everyone would have an exceptional mind, and believe me, I know a lot of really dumb kids.
To me, the IQ just measure the number of "tools" you could have at your disposal for problem solving... but that doesn't necessarily translates into life success or means a high score can transform you into the scientist that will discover time travel or a way to produce junk food without the calories :D

Well in the end, IQ matters not, since it really boils down to two forms of intelligence in this world. Academic intelligence and Social intelligence. I've met a lot of people who possess a lot of one form, and almost none of the other. There are blessed few who have both.

Yeah, I took the Stanford-Binet test. The reason I was being tested was to see if I have a math learning disability (which I do, math dyslexia) so I was tested for 2 years. I excelled in language arts/speech/writting/etc, but sucked horribly at number logic. I also excelled in the patterns with shapes and stuff, ya know like "If *shape* is to *shape* then *shape* must be *_____*"...

I agree. The guy explaining it to me mentioned the same thing. How it isn't really intelligence, but more like how one can use their own/other resources to some advantage. But really... someone can be academically intelligent, but get nowhere in life. While someone can be socially inteligent and get somewhere. I know I suck in school, my GPA is a 2.8 the last I checked (last may)... lazyness :D, but I can safely say I'm more likely to do something with my life rather than most of the people there. >>;
Meh, someone can be very educated but do nothing. It's like those professional students that do nothing with their education, they just keep getting it, but not give it back to the society. I know a women who is a pro student and is always rambling... I learn so much. I wish more would be like that.

138, Mensa certified.
Using the categories supplied by Evdog, I'd class myself in the average category when it comes down to academic intelligence, maybe tipping the scales slightly towards the above average category; and, definitely, the upper end of the scale for social intelligence.

IQ tests are decent enough for one's own examination, but they are not definative,
Ritalin has proven that with her change in IQ figures; with time your IQ can change, I believe through self education anyone can better themselves..increasing an IQ with ease.
I know people who I used to go to school with, who were far more intelligent than myself, but due to their swelled egos they never got anywhere, they stopped trying and believed they were naturally gifted - wrong!!
I improved myself since leaving school, but these fools never did - this was proven to me last week in the pub when I almost got into a fight due to one of these self-professed gifted people getting angry because he couldn't better me in a virtually pointless argument, I actully believe he was more angry at me than my argument points.
I read that a simple way to increase your IQ, brainpower call it what you will, is to stop before doing something regular like picking up a pencil with your chosen writing hand...stop and pick it up with the opposite hand, this will improve your synapses, your brain with in theory create a new junction to combact the virtual new conflict....so stop and do things just a little different everyday; routine is never good.
Also taking Omega-3 (cod-liver oil) tablets, improves memory & learning ability..again this involves improving synapses (nerve relay stations)
Oh and my real thoughts about Mensa are defined in my signature.

What does IQ mean when we all die just as easily?

I firmly stand against this; 'idiots' encompass a wide spectrum of people, usually due to a bad upbringing they never get the chance to express themselves, peer pressure to be a school idiot....I believe anyone can be educated to any level (unless they have a medical condition which prevents this)...
The idiot and the genius left town A at noon to reach town B.
The genius jumped on the bus and arrived at 2pm, the idiot started walking; he arrived at dusk.
Fact is, they both reached town B, only at different times.
If the genius had helped the idiot, both could have arrived together.
We are all equal, it just takes more or less time for people to understand things.
Through education anyone, at any age, can better themselves.

That's quite a contradiction there :D.
Anyway...
Anyone can score high on IQ tests if they simply do a lot of them. Most of them are basic problem solving questions, which can be perfected through practice, and they use the same kinds of questions for all types of IQ tests. So if you are really that eager to show off a high IQ score... Start practicing :p.

It's been a while, but I think mine was like 151. I don't think I.Q. tests really mean anything, though. In fact, I think they are detrimental. Someone could score lowly and think they're inferior somehow when, in fact, they can probably do anything just as well or better than people who score highly. For example, I know many people who scored lower than me who I am perfectly willing to say are really much smarter than I am.
After all, many people consider Einstein to be a genius (which he probably was), yet he flunked math. Go figure.

Yeah they suck, but lets see; the world population is what? 6 billion +? 7 billion?
That leaves 100's of millions of people, and unles they changed what is top 5 percentile to accomodate the rise in birth rate and decrease in death rate, what was top 5% might not be any more.

but seriously folks, why does it really matter how smart a person naturally is? It's just a reason to put others down, and say you're oh so much better.
There are tons of people at my school who are so much smarter than I am, but I do just as well to better than them just because I actually...study...whoa.
Seriously, I look at it that even though I know I'm not really that smart, I think it's an even bigger accomplishment doing well, then if I were a genius. It just goes to show, that success lies in attitude, and you have to work for what you believe in.

Not necessarily true... think about how many people are in this world. Last time I checked, it was around 6 billion. Take 5% of that, and it's a couple hundred million.
A bit less than 4 pages in this thread, at about 5 posts per page. So just under 60 people claim to be above average or gifted. Out of a couple hundred million, it's hard for you to believe that under 60 above-average people could be at an anime forum?
EDIT - Oh my gosh... lmao... it's supposed to say 15 posts per page... :Sweat

I don't know about my IQ score, but I'm not sure what's the real point behind the IQ score itself. Please, I don't have any grudges on people who has better IQ scores or anything, but it does seem quite discriminating, doesn't it? It's like who's richer and who's poorer... I'll try to find out what's mine, though, if I get the chance to.

Actually, there is the theory of multiple sets of intelligence, divided as follows:
* Thought
Verbal-linguistic
Logical-mathematical
Naturalist
* Sensate
Visual-spatial
Body-kinesthetic
Auditory-musical
* Communicational
Interpersonal communication
Intrapersonal communication
In this theory, standard IQ tests only measure Verbal-linguistic, logical-mathematical and visual-spatial.

Seeing as this is somewhat on topic. Has anyone been playing with the Brain Training and Brain Academy on Nintendo DS?
No matter how you score in whichever IQ tests you take, the human body [and more importantly, the human mind] is constantly adapting to be more efficient at doing what is required of it. With constant exercise, you can get better at specific tasks and at the same time you can also loose ability or proficiency in certain ways of thinking.
In a sense, this means that watching too much TV *could* actually rit your brain.
From personal experience, I took a year or two off from full-time education and now I can't do long division in my head anymore.

In terms of long-term memory, the human brain is like a hard disk drive. It never truely forgets anything, just how to access the data.

I've been diagnosed with Aspergers. Which is odd because I'm a social butterfly in crowds... Anyway I think it's mostly bullshit. Half of the people that have depression/aspergers/mental disorders are just loser ass kids that ar emad beause their parents didn't buy them the new iPod (and OMG, they mostly have MySpace's)
Say what? You have IQ benefits, but not the EQ side? Your doctor's whacked (or a quack)!
BTW, how do you usually get to measure up your IQ scores? From where I come from, it doesn't have the privilege to have it done in schools, I wonder why... maybe my countrymen don't wanna know the degree of our idiocy perhaps...:drool:

I never took an actual IQ test. the score I posted was from an online one I took about 6 months ago.
I'm going to apply for thsi G/T (Gifted & Talented) Program this year and I think they may require IQ tests. If so I'll let you know :)

Let's see... my IQ (As in, taken from a real test, not from that ubiquitous webpage) was 143 back when I was finishing High School. My "internet" IQ basically fluctuates with room temperature. i've seen from 110's to 170's.
My IQ is 55.
of course it is. *pats on the head*
Ok, picking on Eri aside, this shlock about "mensa certified", "mine is bigger than yours", etc. is just silly. Who the frack really cares? I believe that a measure of intelligence is perhaps your ability to put IQ scores into perspective. Consider this quote from Alfred Binet: "The scale, properly speaking, does not permit the measure of the intelligence, because intellectual qualities are not superposable, and therefore cannot be measured as linear surfaces are measured." Alfred Binet was the creator of the first modern intelligence test.

I'm a dumbass (http://www.animeacademy.com/forums/showthread.php?p=406022#post406022)
I can't believe people still throw around intelligence quotients as though it matters, because it really doesn't.
Oh, and to those who passively post their I.Q. as a high one, and then following it with "I think that's good" or "I suppose it's an okay score" or even the highly annoying "But I took that when I was really young, like around 2 months old, I'm not sure what it is now." Shut up. You're not fooling anyone; it's obvious you just want someone to quote you with something along the lines of praise, such as "Oh, it is, and it fits you! HEHE".
Besides, I recently sold myself to science, so now I'm smarter and better than anyone else here in every way imaginable.
