I, personally, don't find piercings very appealling and would never get it done, much less suggest that someone else do it. Some people claim it just looks good, but how many people really notice earrings or other such piercings and find it attractive? I've never once in my life seen a girl and thought, "damn...those holes in her face look pretty sexy....I'm gonna go ask her out." The first thing anyone would think if they judged someone off of their piercings is how grotesque it is...

Also, what's the point in poking holes in yourself if not for beauty, etc? They provide no real pleasure, they don't do anything.....they just sit there....and look weird.


That's just my thoughts on the subject, but I really don't think much about it unless I see some freak with rings all in their face.

Call me traditionalist in the matter, but I think one piercing per ear for earrings is more than enough (in women, that is). I can go without those too for the most part.

yes i have piercings. but not as much as i want. my mother wont let me get what i want yet, but once im out of the house im getting: my ears pierced like 5 more times (they are only pierced twice each at the moment) and im going to get my nipples and something else pierced. But I AM interested where this kind of cultural tradition gets passed down from. Usually western society looks down on activities like this, but piercing is (strangely) totally acceptable, at least for girls.

Does anyone have any information where this tradition spawned from? Is it something recent? It could be as far back as from humanity's African roots, but maybe it was something else like maybe some kind of leader started piercing and, as history usually dictates, the followers take it upon themselves to mimic the art.

Just one hole on each ear. My mother and grandmother (on my dad's side, figure that) took me to the mall to get them done when I was a baby. My dad got pissed but there wasn't really much he could do. :/

Once my parents separated and my dad and I moved, the earrings came off. I remember wanting to wear some earrings in sixth grade for some stupid dance one time, and my mother had to force those damn things in. It hurt so much. ;_;

Yeah, when I was in high school, a friend of mine had that done. It was gross, and not very hot >_>; Then again, I've never been a big fan of piercings.

I'm quite conservative in my dressing, and somewhat formal as a person, and that's why I don't have or will get any: Piercings simply don't go with me.

I'm not particularly against them, nor I think there's anything wrong with them in principle. I think it's a matter of your style and your tastes. Frankly, I think having many is unappealing, but then again, few things in excess are appealing.

mine are streched not that big i use to have 4's but i go to the hospitle so much it got old streching them back out every time. i want my neck done but my dad wont let me as lone as iam under his roof. and my anti brow.

Well, I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to insert metal there anyway. I don't know about you but I like my spine intact... but for that matter, I like my entire body to be intact. (or "pure" if you'd like)

Got my second ear piercing today in my left earlobe. I've been wanting it for a while because having only one piercing in an earlobe is kinda stupid for a guy. I plan on getting three in total and maybe one in my right ear, but there's a fair bit of scar tissue in there when a I had a cyst cut out of it three years ago. I got my first when I was in grade 6 (it was all the rage in the 90s) and it just didn't grow over. I'd never get any face or body piercings.

When it comes to the issue of piercings I really don't see the problem with it as long as people wear them in the right circumstances. Would I wear my piercings to a formal occassion? Hell no! Would I wear them when I'm all dolled up for a night on the town? Hell yes! Besides, it looks sexy on me (but really, most things do). Also, current fashion trends (at least in the sub-culture in the corner of the globe I live in) dictate that body/face piercings are the new 'tramp stamp'. Rings are better too, like a pirate.
