I jes finished watching this, and found it quite entertaining. The starting was a bit corny, but it gets better as the story progresses. LOL There are so many similarities to Sailormoon, granted the director is oso director for SM. It jes brings me back to my childhood times when i'm a big big fan of SM. Of course, Pretear is a much much better anime. It's funny and yet depressing. I simply love the costume Himeno changes to when merged with hayate. XP
Oh, and Pretear is based on Snow White. kekekekkeee....

true it doesn't look like snow white, but maybe that's a good thing, I am waiting for it to be released in box set in america right now.

It's been a little while sence I watched Pretear, but from what I remeber I really didn't seam all that much like Snow White. But I do know that I liked it. Hayate reminded me of Tomahome from Fushigi Yuugi.

some really cute bishies in it lol... and i liked the character designs.
though... it's plot was a little weak. a plethora of interesting cast made it cool.
is pretear licensed?

Probably one of the best magical girl shows out there.

i dunno about best... but seeing how there aren't that many shoujo that deviate from the typical mahou shoujo of dinky little girl turns into 16 year old idol, it is indeed refreshing. i was trying to watch some good shoujo couldn't think of anything besides utena, marmalade boy, and hana yori dango.
i watched a single ep of X tv, but seriuosly those clamp people overstretched it a bit. their legs are twice as long as their torso...not exaggerating and stick thin.... hmmm... anyone have any suggestions?

You refuse to watch any more episodes of X TV because of the character designs? .... Well, to each his own. You should give it another chance, though, because it's a great show.
But back on-topic. After only two dvds of it, Pretear's my favorite magical girl show. I haven't seen many MG shows, but this is the only one I can really tolerate. I like the characters, Himeno is a believable heroine, and I can't get enough of those bubbles during the transformation sequences.... ;) The opening theme's catchy, too.

On this "new" topic of the X TV character designs, I don't think you should quit watching because of character designs. Lupin III has the same problem, but I don't see any complaints...
On the topic of Pretear, I've seen a few subbed episodes, but I didn't really care for it...but it is pretty nifty to be able to pull out a sword from nowhere...

i don't know why anyone assumed that i refuse to X TV because of character designs. i don't have the urge to... when i'm looking for something to watch i might check out another ep, but not inclined to now, but thanx for all the reccomendations.

Ahh, Pretear...I thought it started out fairly well but by the end I was pretty bored by it...and considering it was only what, 13 episodes(?) that's not saying much...though if it says something about the quality of the show or my short attention span is another matter entirely. I thought it just became far too cliche and angsty by the end. The animation was kind of nice though, everything was bright and flowed really well. I suppose I did enjoy it somewhat, but for me it has no real rewatch value.
I actually liked the manga quite a bit better.

Kaleido Star
Princess Nine
Honey and Clover
Paradise Kiss
Fruits Basket
Maria-sama ga miteiru
Please save my Earth
Kare kano
etc... etc...
Actually, most shoujo anime are NOT magical girl shows. Thankfully. most are not as overrated as Utena, nor as melodramatic and stale as Marmalade Boy.

This show has got horrendous monster design and action - when the transformation sequence can last longer than the fighting, you know something is wrong.
But, anybody who perseveres on watching should be able to realise it is all about the character development and the closer-to-life truth that adversaries are not always outright evil. Dealt at a level simple enough for kids to understand (i think...), so well done for that.

Agreed with list.
Disagreed with Utena being overrated.

Ok... let me rephrase that then... not as bad ad re-using animation sequences and stretching a 26 episode anime into 39 while using the same song over and over again like Utena does.
