It's decent...provided you haven't seen the original Nuku Nuku or the TV series. If you have then avoid this one.

Is the original "Nuku Nuku Dash!" and is the TV series by the same name.

I am making up a list of things to see and your comment caught my eye.;)

No it's just called Black Lagoon no other title. thanks Ghostmaster. Making a list and checking it for what to see next.

Happy Lesson Advance - 7/10. Unusually good harem-esque show. The male lead is the worst part, everyone around him is capable of both being uproariously funny and very sincere. Production values are low (art/animation) and some of the seiyuu felt like they were just mailing in their performances.

Ah! Megami-sama ~sorezore no Tsubasa~: 7.5
Finally, after nearly a year after I stared watching it, it has finished. The second season continues right where the first season left off, and it does get to a good start. There is more character development in the first episode than all of season 1.

However, things quickly settle into the familiar episodic format, and the occasional story arc that covers a few episodes. Perhaps the most frustrating thing is, like School Rumble, by the end of the series our characters have moved nearly nowhere from that fantastic start.

It's not all bad though. The visuals are crisp and smoothy animated, and the music is quite good. The antics of the gang are very entertaining, and the comedy hits far more than misses.

Overall, it is a decent addition to the Ah! Megami-sama franchise, I just wish they'd get on with the characters a bit more.

Ergo Proxy: 7
An intersting show, this. For starters it looks fantastic, even with the gloomy colour scheme. The character designs are very intersting, and the mechanical designs are something a little different from the norm. The music is pretty good, and it wins cool factor points for having Paranoid Android by Radiohead as it ED

The story itself is incredibly intriguing. It has a very intersting start ot this show, and I was enthralled right up to episode 11. However, from there things take a turn for the weird. Some episodes tend to be very heavy on the the cryptic speeches and the riddles, making it hard to follow, particularly near the end. Perhaps the most annoying thing is that many of the questions and story points get lost amongst it own profoundness, and end up not being answered in a very satisfactory manner.

Despite this, I did find myself wanting to see the next episode each time, if anything to see if further light will be shed of on the subject. I would recommend this show to sci-fi/post apocolyptic/cyberpunk fans as it is very interesting, regardless of it's flaws.

Happy Lesson Advance: 4.5
After being pleasently amused by Happy Lesson, I thought I'd give Advance a go. Even though it scores about the same, Advance is in a much lower league than it's predecessor.

Happy Lesson Advance tries to introduce some drama to the show, but it comes off as sappy and overbearing, and I think it sacrificed some of the comedy in doing. There wasn't half as much torturing of Chitose as the first, and that was part of what made the first amusing.

Plot twists abound, but they ultimately serve little purpose, and our characters advance very little from where they started. Also, episode 9 of Advance was a repeat of one of the episodes from Happy Lesson, and that came off as sloppy.

All in all, Happy Lesson Advance was actually what I expected Happy Lesson to be. Best saved for when there is nothing else to watch.

They did; it's called Solid State Society which I personally give 8.0/10.

The one thing I loved about this movie special is that it incorporates an issue common to almost any country into my favorite cyberpunk series. In terms of its audio and visual departments, I knew there was nothing to worry about as long as Yoko Kanno is at helm, and visually it was spectacular.

Ebichu The Housekeeping Hamster (6/10) - Even though I give it a decent rating, it's merely because some of its content was actually pretty gross to behold, and it was even offensive in a couple of instances. But for all the gusto put into pushing our buttons on how sexual themes are usually depicted, there was some genuine moments of hilarity that made me think about how delicate such things can be, and how great it was to see private parts mentioned on an almost regular basis. There's plenty of in-jokes inside the series, but they'll only mean something if you can stomach what's being shown right in front of your face beforehand.

Giant Robo (7/10) - Very good, and I was aware it was a remake of the classic series before viewing it, keeping my expectations in check. There's some crazy actions sequences in this series, and the soundtrack was definitely epic, but the story didn't catch my interest that much. Still, very enjoyable stuff that's for more seasoned mecha fans than myself.

Otaku No Video (10/10) - I just love watching an anime/mockumentary on anime fans, and the presentation was certainly entertaining in showing what the time period offered for seriously hardcore fanatics. The anime portion even contained some worthy parodies and references.

Appleseed OVA: 6.5

I got this because it was supposed to be better than the more recent movie. Well, I was disapointed on that regard. It was different, but I don't really consider it better.

For starters, if you don't like the art style eminating from the 80's, go away. Now. I don't mind it myself, so that isn't an issue with me, but some people have problems with the old skool stuff. Aside from the art style, the animation quality was terrible at times. For an OVA, I would have expected better.

The story itself is interesting enough, but it skips and jumps around a lot. It's not hard to follow, but it can be a little jarring when somethings going down, and suddenly the guys are doing something else. It ends up feeling rushed. This has an impact on the characters. I didn't get a feel for them or the relationships between the characters, so they felt rather one dimensional to me.

Overall, it's not that bad. But it wasn't as good as I had been led to believe.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED C.E 73 ~ Stargazer - 7.3

After the disaster that was Destiny, I was seriously hoping for a rebound with this 3 episode series. For the most part, I was rather satisfied (Then again, this anime wouldn't have to try too hard to top Destiny). The story was a nice change from the previous two series, and it actually kep me interested the whole way through. For an anime released over the internet, the animation was a nice surprise as well in comparison to other internet releases (*cough* Psychic Academy *cough*). Though it's still a general rip-off of the UC timeline, the Cosmic Era tries to get back up after stumbling with a decent continuation of this new era.

Victorian Maid Emma.....................................9/10 the fine wine of anime series, best enjoyed 1 episode at a time

Victorian Romance Emma: 9

A fantastic little drama about forbidden love. Everything about this show is beautiful. The setting is gorgeous, and the art style is stunning. The music is wonderful, it fits right in with the mood of the show.

The story itself is well written and very well paced. It never feels rushed or dragged out. Had I not seen episode 0 (a series recap) of the second act first, I would say it's not predictable, and keeps you wanting more.

It's not entirely perfect, though. The animation does seem a bit chunky at times, and I wanted a bit more story on Hakim. Emma's past probably would have been better served by spacing it out a bit more, rather than such a large chunk in a single epsiode.

Overall, if you like the slice of life drama's (and/or period drama's), this one fits the bill wonderfully.

Banner of the Stars: 8
Epic science fiction as some of it's finest. The show flips between front line units and Command elements very well, giving a good picture of how an epic space battle actually pans out.

the mechanical and costume designs are very interesting, and the music suitably epic. However, the show does refer to some specific events in it's predecessor, Crest of the Stars, so if you haven't seen that (like me), those parts of the series are somewhat confusing.

The ending is also incredibly rushed, fitting at least 2 episodes worth into 1 episode.

Overall, bar the rushed ending, a very good show, which probably would have been better if I had seen Crest of the Stars first.

Banner of the Stars II: 8
Much of what I said about Banner of the Stars applies to the sequel, but Banner of the Star II takes a much narrower, focused view on diplomacy and polictics than the huge epic military brushstrokes than Banner of the Stars does.

Overall it's very good, but the retrospective aspect in the first couple of episodes doesn't sit well, and spoilers the ending by lessening the tension, seeing as we know most of what's going to happen. But that bit dropped as we hit episode 4, and the show is better for it. There is also one character whose fate is unknown, I would have liked some closure on that.

Still, a worthy continuation to the ...of the Stars franchise.

Banner of the Stars III: 8 The story come full circle, returning to where Crest of the Stars began (I assume, I still haven't gotten a hold of it yet).

Again, much of what's been said about the other 2 applies but being an OVA, the animation quality is top notch, so no complaints there and the new ship design is awesomeness.

The beginning of the show did feel a bit garbled and rushed, it jumped a bit too far ahead from the end of Banner of the Stars II for me. But it soon smoothes out. Again, perhaps even moreso than Banner of the Stars, a knowledge of Crest of the Stars is necessary to fully understand the implications of what is going on, but you can still get the gist of what's going on so it's not totally confusing.

The ending is not something I expected, I was pleasantly surprised at that turn of events. Overall, a worthy end to a damn fine epic space fantasy franchise.

.......I really need to get a hold of Crest of the Stars.

Agent Aika: 3 Wow, so spectacularly......crap.

I was told this was rubbish when it was given to me, but I was hoping for the funny rubbish. Indeed, if the show had kept up the pace set in the first 2 episodes, it could have been a hoot, hilariously over the top. But it suddenly becomes 'serious' and 'dramatic', and it becomes both cheesy and hammy.

First point: Those who abhore fanservice, stay very.....very far away. If I could be bothered I could count on 1 hand the number of scenes that don't have a panty shot in them. And clothes keep disappearing, often for no real good reason other than disappearing clothes.

The pacing was terrible, jamming the entire main story in 4 episodes, leaving the remaining 3 with no point whatsoever. The characters are completely forgettable, and they also include a character that suddenly appears in episode 5, acts like he's been there all along and does absolutely nothing.

Overall, best to avoid. Like the plague. you, know, the bubonic variety. Though I have to give them props to the MiG-21 (until it suddenly becomes a VTOL) and MiG-25, those were very well animated and detailed.

Amaxing Nurse Nanako: 5.5

Another in my collection of unwatched stuff, this one did turn out to be pleasantly amusing. Still crap, but I had fun watching it.

It does suffer from it's compressed format, so you don't really get a feel for the various faction at play, and the flow of things can be confusing. Some minor characters don't get any attention.

But I found Nanako to be an amusing character, partly because of her voice actress does such a good job. The fanservice (as expected from this genre of OVA) comes off as amusing more often than tasteless, which was a surprise to me.

So, if you looking for a fun manner in which to blow off a couple hours, give this a go.

Mai Otome - 6/10

What a huge mess. The storyline was predictable, unreasonable and relied heavily on sheer coincidences. The writers don't seem to realize that constant coincidences and chance encounters aren't a plot twist or a valid way to move the plot forward. For a Mai Hime fan (like me), there were some positives. It was fun to see the constant cameos, more blatant yuri scenes, more of the same comedy, and more Shizuru and Nagi. But the rest...ugh.

Mobile Suit Gundam 08th MS Team: 7.5

I've never been into Gundam, so as a consequence I haven't seen much and of what I had seen, I wasn't overly impressed. But I've heard around that the MS Team show s are good, so I decided to check them out.

And I wasn't disappointed. I felt the way the unit was presented, the whole scenario seemed to operate in a realistic and believable manner. The mecha (for the most part) weren't decidedly über, and the overall story was quite interesting. The animation could have been better, though.

I did feel that the relationship between Shirou and Aina was kind of forced and overly idealistic, it sat at times uncomfortably at odds with the main story. The last episode was redundant, the time could have been better spent on expanding Ginius and the overall situation.

But overall, a good mecha show, well worth the watch.

Mobile Suit Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory: 6.5
I checked this one out mainly because I got it confused with the MS team Gundam. It is in the UC timeline, and actually in the future compared to the MS Team.

This Gundam started out interestingly enough. The conspiracy and political shenanigans were quite intriguing, but things began to unravel as we got near the end.

The battles at the end of the show were boring, and the rather interesting love side story suddenly became a source of forced melodrama as events and what should have been major plot points popped out of nowhere.

The music didn't age too well to my ears, but then again I never was a fan of the synth that plagued late 80's and early 90's music. The animation was acceptable overall, so no real complaints in that department.

I wasn't as impressed by this one as I was by the MS 08th team. I can't say it was bad, but I wasn't particularly moved by this one.

Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan: 7
I've seen animated gifs that have intrigued me around for this for a while, but I've never Actually known what it was. Much thanks to Akito for giving me a name.

This was alot of fun, for what it was. Ecchi comedy that hits the mark is a rarity, and combine that with gratuitous slapstick makes for many laughs. The length is about right as well. If each episode had been much longer, then it may have started to get old rather fast.

But at only 8 episodes, there isn't much of a semblence of a story. Much of the story as such is pushed into the final 2 episodes, and at 15 minutes a piece it is very rushed. There is no real conclusion to the show, and the relationships aren't really expanded upon. If that's what you are looking for, then Dokuro-chan isn't your thing.

However, for some quick laughs Dokuro-chan fits the bill nicely.

Another fun romp through the Detective Conan world awaits in this movie. Everything is basically the same from the series only with a bigger budget. It's just such a shame that the main mystery can be figured out so early in the movie, making the ending rather anti-climatic. This first movie could've been so much more had this movie's main plot been planned out better. Regardless of the disappointing case, The Timed Skyscraper is still a good distraction from your day.

Death Note Movie 2: The Last Name 8/10 This is the second live action death note movie. This movie takes a completely different turn than the series. The ending is ridiculous. The way his father turns on him and the note was a fake and L is alive?? What's up with that and also Ryuk writes Light's Name in the notebook and he dies crazy stuff. I did enjoy how they put a twist and changed the entire ending of the movie crazy stuff.

Naruto Movie 3 - 6.5/10
To tell you the truth I don't know why I bothered with this one. It was the worst of the naruto movies, barely any fighting at all and it was soooooo cheesy. It was like a really long filler episode. The fights at the end were pathetic and the story was cheesy in itself with friendship and love and wonderful things. Skip this at all cost.

Love Hina: 6.5
Well, I finally decided to bite the bullet and rewatch this. It's been a good 4 years since I last saw it, and I have fond memories of it. I just didn't want to go and ruin it by more or less confirming what I had already suspected. It just isn't that great.

But then again, it isn't that bad either. It does keep up an amusement level throughout the show, even if the jokes aren't as funny the 2nd time round (and yes, Naru punch does get old pretty fast). The show spends too much time farting around with filler episodes and doesn't leave us with much of a conclusion. There are a few elements that I assume were supposed to be 'profound' and/or symbolic, particularly in episodes that were 'serious', but the often came off as confusing or silly.

The characters are all likeable, even if some of them a a bit boring. Kitsune and Motoko are the most interesting of the bunch, and Motoko's stories were the best executed of the 'serious' episodes. The production is topnotch. The visuals are crisp, and the soundtrack, whilst not having many particularly memorable songs, fits each and every scenario perfectly.

So.....Love Hina isn't the best example of the harem genre out there, but it's one of the better ones.

Ergo Proxy - 7.8/10
I did enjoy this series in the beginning more than I did the end. Too much complexity at the end that really just packed in to finish the series. Th explanation of the proxies was interesting to how they were seen as gods and how they created cities, especially of course with learn Vincent's secret of creating Romdeu. I did enjoy how you learn some of things, but pretty only the last two episodes is all revealed and that disappointed me. The very end where Vincent is still also disappointed me beause now what are Real Pino and Vince going to do?

Nodame Cantabile: 9

You like Classical music? You like anime? Then this is the show for you. Indeed, it's probably one of the best music anime's I have seen.

Each of the characters are given decent screen time, and each of them are unique and likeable in their own way. I found their journey's through the series very compelling. The sotry itself was quite interesting, something a little....different from what I had expected. Bar the first ED, which I personally thought was a bit boring, the selection of music is fantastic, and the OP and second ED are pretty damn good.

The only thing that lets this series down is the frustrating animation. Overall it's what you'd expect, but when it comes to the music performances...it's brilliant. The fingering is correct, the right notes/buttons pressed, it is an absolute treat to watch. But it is often interspaced with long still/panning shots. There are only a few performances that get the balance right, and most end up more stills than that beautiful animation.

But despite that, I say it's a recommended show, especially if you like music.

Nodame Cantabile: 6

+ cute, lively and light romantic comedy.
- Bad comedy attempts, bad animation, ugly-looking character designs, movements don't match sounds, excessive use of stills during 'action' music scenes and retarded CG use.
The Drama was much, much better.

Higurashi no naku koro ni: 8

+ Interesting plot, interesting characters, original art and good op/ed music.
- incredibly predictable for a thriller, fails at horror due to its sheer surreal nature.

Death Note: 10

+ interesting, original, stunning animation, memorable characters, BGM/Op/Ed sheer bliss;
- takes itself too seriously at times? The post-spoiler arc wasn't as gripping as the first;

This is going to be a long list, you are warned

Cowboy Bebop 9.5/10 - I really like this kind of stories, altough I still can't stand japanese obsession with making all the good carachters die in most series -.-

Chrono Crusade 10/10 - The way GONZO showed the last, sad scene of Rosette and Chrno could have been the fall of this anime... but they worked out the perfect conclusion.

The Girl Who leapt Through Time 10/10 - If only I could, I would give it 11/10. Best. Anime. Movie.

Evangelion 9.5/10 - Again, the anime is absolutely wonderful, but the conclusion was stunning, altough great. Death and Rebirt + The End of Evangelion = 7/10 - good quality, but the story...

Green green TV 8/10 - This anime reminded me of Full Metal panic - Fumoffu 's episode about the weekend spent at the hot springs. However, the ending was so obvious that I can't give it more than 8.

FLCL 9/10 - GAINAX for the win. A great anime indeed. If only it wasn't full of obscure japanese jokes and small phrases that are shown too quickly to be either understood or just seen, I would have given it a full 10.

XXX-Holic 10/10 - In my opinion, one of CLAMP's best works ever. Unfortunately, the anime series ends too quickly and leaves many holes in the plot, but it earns its 10.

Tsubasa Chronicle 1&2 7/0 -The first season was good, altough often repetitive. The musics are wonderful in both seasons, altough Season 2 contains too many fillers... Also, since the last season, where we would have discovered the end of the story (at last), was cancelled, it is now just a good anime without an ending.

Last exile 10/10 - GONZO didi its best in developing this sereies. A must see.

Full metal Alchemist 9/10 - A great anime, because it was able to develop many subplots all togetehr without leaving behind some of them without explanation. However, in some moments it begins to reveal so many things that it becomes easily predictable which part will be shown in the next episode. The movie, after all, was very good.

Full Metal Panic (1,Fumoffu,2) - 9 for the first season, 10 for Fumoffu and barely a 6for the last season. The Second Raid looked soooo much as the usual sequel made where the evil enemy is able to survive and the heroes can be used once again to make easy money.

Chobits 8/10 - I'm at episode 9 roght now: a good plot, same for the ecchi moments and so on, but some gags (in every single episode the protagonist begins to speak with himself while at school and the teacher makes fun of him...) are way too repetitive.

Hellsing 8/10 - The musics and the animations are great, however there are many subplots left behind unexplained and the ending isn't really at the same level of the rest.

Afro Samurai 10/10 - I don't doubt GONZO spent more than 1 million dollars for each episode.

Burst Angel 4/10 - I couldn't believe my eyes: funservice + horrible plot = one of the worst animes I ever saw.

Gin-Iro no Kami no Agito 9/10 - Excellent story

Elfen Lied 9/10 - A bit too much blood, and a story a bit too predictable at some points, but the intro alone is worth the 9.

This is only a small part of all the animes I've seen, and I hope it will help some of you deciding which series to download in order to spend the summer evenings^^

Now that i have finally been enlightened to the wonders of the internet, i can now watch heaps of these series without having to wait for their releases into the dubbed crap.

Eureka Seven 8/10 - Great artistic style, enjoyed the music, however i found that there were many uneventful episodes, The characters were too aggressive at times, and the mood sometimes switched so fast that i would stop at the end of the episode to recap.

Bleach 10/10 - At first i thought this series may be something like that of DBZ and so i avoided it like the plague, but once i sat down and thought, hey, i feel like something different and downloaded it, well now i am hooked. The characters are great, the fights are decent and the story line keeps bringing me back in. Well i could ramble on, but i should do that elsewhere.

Rune Soldier 7/10 - This is an anime that should not be taken seriously, it is just a sit down at times and laugh your ass off at the stupidy that is Lui (the main character), he really does represent those whom cannot think beyond the end their fists. Great comedy, rediculous story line, and the character development is kept in slow progression.

XXXholic 4/10 - Im sorry i ever got this off a friend and wasted my life, it was slow paced, lame and boring. The characters were not very imaginative and they carried on too much. Which is a shame cause i enjoyed Tsubasa (dont hold it against me), however i think clamp stuffed up big with this one.

Death Note 9/10 - Great starting to the series, currently on eps 12 and thoroughly enjoying the series, will comment more later after i have seen the ending.

Witch hunter Robin 7/10 - This series started out with soooo much potential and then let itself shoot itself in the ass near the end with its slow pace and the sudden ending. The characters were at times unemotional, and then suddenly an emotional disaster. Make up your minds.

Tsubasa Resivoir 9/10 - Many have not found this series very enertaining and have said so, however i have commented on it in the forum concerning this series.

Magikano - 8/10

I always thought this show was funny. Before I watched Magikano, I watched an anime with witches called Maburaho. I was really disappointed with that one... but when I saw Magikano, I thought it was worth the watch. I loved the character designs, the magic circles looked cool, and at least some of the situations were funny (I really love the first episode XD ). Before watching the ending, I would've given this show a 5/10, but the ending was fairly good for a harem/magical girl anime. I loved the ending.

Since I went back to Love Hina, I decided to go for broke and rewatch the lot. I'll only put a few observations on them.

Love Hina: Winter Special: 7 Possibly the strongest out of the entire franchise, this one actually managed to squeeze some measure of feeling out of me. It was overall well constructed, and entertaining.

Love Hina: Spring Special: 4.5 This one was surprisingly worse than I remembered. Then again, it was based on a particularly silly bit in the manga. The story was simply stupid, and this one was overall unfunny. The music seemed......a little out of place as well.

Love Hina Again: 5 Oddly enough, this one wasn't quite as bad as I remembered. The first 2 episodes are OK, but they do feel very rushed. You never really get to see who Kanako is. But it's the last episode that's the killer, especially for those who have read the manga. Last I saw it I had not long finished the manga.

Wacky stuff happens all the time in Hinata Hot Springs, but this was weird to the point that it just isn't believable. I assume it's supposed to symbolise something, but I can't figure out what. The animation quality wasn't quite what I expected of an OVA as well, and again the music didn't seem to fit as well as it did in the series.

Blood+ 7/10

Not as bad as some people might say, but it had its flaws. Most everything seemed to go downhill after the first excellent half of the series. The second half was pretty much...meh. Too much melodrama, story, characters, everything got cheesier, fights became pointless. The creators seemed to want an overall more gloomy feel to the second half, I guess, but all that happened was everything got more boring. Even the fights weren't as good as the ending neared.

Basically, 1st half = 8/10
2nd half = 6/10
Average it all up, 7/10

Devil May Cry episodes 1 & 2: 8/10

Now I haven't played the games so I don't know how it lives up to them. But for what it is, it was a fun, well animated anime with a casual badass main character, nifty action sequences and as far as bloody anime go, a decent plot. No complaints here. =D

Elfen Lied--7.8/10 (The main character's relationship never felt genuine to me unless if in a flashback. The peripheral character had much more interesting things to say and do, and were the cause of much of the developing drama throughout the series course.)

Ouran High School: Host Club--9/10 (Unlike my previous mini review above, this series juggles several relationships at once...Coincidentally, the series doesn't even seem to have an overarching plot, making it feel more like an episode of Loony-Toons from America than the typical Japanese fair. In fact, the slapstick featured here seems to have as much heart as a classic Buster Keaton film. Every character seems to have enough personality to make up for any short comings in the plot, while also parodying the genre's conventions of "girly" anime. In short, while it might look like it's too cute to be enjoyed by anyone, it so consistently funny that I would have no problem recommending it to anyone.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni--8.4/10 (Scary series, but has an incredibly convoluted plot that features little answers...Perfect for the conspiracy theorists or detectives out there that want to unravel the plot. If you were to compare it to anything else, I'd say Rashomon is its closest relative by telling the same story several times over from different perspectives.

Gankutsuou--9.2/10 (There isn't much to say about this series that hasn't been said already. This is the closest representation of the Count of Monte Cristo I've seen, even though there are several changes that don't affect the overall plot. The ending is slightly different too, but I won't spoil it for you even though I have to admit it I don't like anywhere near as much as the original ending from the book. Regardless, this is one of my favorite series of all time.)

DNA²--8/10 (I like comedies, and this series about a dorky high schooler who is injected by a DNA enhancing serum and made into a super-playboy is hilarious. It's also too short though, at about 15 episodes long including the OVAs, and the last two story arcs felt completely out of place and belonged in something more akin to Dragonball than this. Oh, and the animation is bad...Really bad. But the characters made up for it. There's something endearing to me about a hapless kid trying to get laid.)

Ergo Proxy--8.2/10 (I don't know how to feel about this series. It takes a spectrum of classic sci-fi genre conventions, from Phillip K. Dick to Asimov, and everything seems to click at first. Then midway through we discover the main character's reasons of existing, and things begin to feel out of place. It begins to feel more like a monster film akin to the Wolf-Man; and while that's okay, the show's protagonist seems to wallow in constant self pity. We don't even understand, as an audience, why or what purpose he's meant to carry out until the final moments of the series. That is unfortunate, because it feels tacked on in the grand scheme of things and doesn't adequately explain this story's universe well enough as it deserved. I would have rated this series a lot higher if the story decided to explain itself better, and didn't introduce an underdeveloped villain at the last second. Seriously, I was almost as furious and confused by the last episodes villain's explanation of events in the series than the scene in the second Matrix movies between Neo and the Architect. It isn't nearly as bad as I'm probably making it sound to be, but I was just so let down by what happened. If you do watch this series though, I will have to say that I think episode 13 might be one of the most suspenseful episodes of any series I've seen in a long time.)

Godannar: 6
Godannar started out pretty good. It was parodying the giant robo genre by being the epitome of what giant robo is. It had the big roboob...ots, the silly attack names and the ridiculous outfits. Yelling, lots of that as well. It was pretty good when that is all it was trying to be.

But things started going downhill when it tried to introduce a dramatic and serious element to it. The setup was pretty silly, but then trying to turn it serious just didn't work. Romances and plot points appear out of nowhere, and don't seem believeable at all.

The final few episodes slightly redeem it, as they go back to what made it good in the beginning but it was too late, it had dug itself too deep a hole. If you don't like giant robo, stay away from Godannar, it'll be everything you hate. If you do like Giant Robo....well, it's not terrible, but there is better out there.

Mai HiME: 8
I have to say I was pleasently surprised by Mai HiME. Starting off as your typical high school student with powers fighting anime, it takes a number of twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. It also has no bones about dragging it's characters through utter shite, and frankly it makes a better anime for doing so.

The character designs were on the whole quite original, and the music fitting. Except from about ep.18 onwards it really should of had a different OP to match the new tone of the show.

Whilst it does keep a track of it's huge cast pretty well, it can get confusing sometimes and a few HiME pop and other assorted characters out of nowhere. A bit of foreshadowing for them may have been in order.

But overall, a solid show, well worth the watch.

Gunsmith Cats: 8.25/10

Just finished watching it today. The action was good, even if actual deaths didn't start until the second episode. Character development or relations is a virtual non-existent department. The plot was sort of fun, just enough to drive the nice gun totting action forward. Music was alright, and visuals were very appealing.

Gunsmith Cats is not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination, but I think the bottom line with it is, it's fun to watch. It's short, it's predictable, it depends on firefights, and it has too much fan service, but these qualities render it as a perfect time killer for an afternoon. And hell, I have always had something for the whole "girls with guns" genre anyways, so overall I enjoyed watching this anime, and it's one of the few I can honestly say has enough replay value that I would watch complete again. ^_^

Nodame Cantabile 9.3/10
A great blend of classical music with comedy. The characters are easy to cling onto (most anyway aka Mine haha) ahemm... anyway the story is not terrific, but it shows the growth of the music students, focusing on a few, Chiaki who is an aspiring conductor, Nodame a piano prodigy who is incredibly lazy and a few others, Mine a violinst with a huge ego, and more. It is a funny show and the music sounds great. Very entertaining I am sad now that I cannot watch more of it. I'm kinda hoping they could make another season or OVA or something.

Moonlight Mile ~1st season~: 6.5

Moonlight Mile presented itself with an interesting concept, and promised much on the political intrigue side of things. Unfortunately, by the time it started to deliver those things it was too late in the show to really make much of an impact.

But those final episodes are rather good, so if you are willing to get through the weak beginning, it's worth watching.

Well, I was forced into watching Love Hina by a friend of mine, expecting a horrible time had by all.

I was pleasently surpriesed, however. The story was actually somewhat interesting, I loved the characters, and it was overall a good fun thing to watch. I did think that it was not nearly as funny as I had been told it would be (I went entire episodes without laughing once) but it wasn't 26 episodes worth of time I would've asked for back.

I give it a respectable 8/10

The Third: Aoi Hitomi no Shoujo - 6.5/10 (decent)

The series is one of the better action titles of 2006, which is enough to gauge my interest (however shallow that may be).

One thing that sorta bugged me was the inconsistent animation. I don't mean that it deviated between good and bad; the animation style would just be very different in certain episodes, where you can clearly tell there was a different cast of animation directors/key animators in charge. Not a big deal, but it did take a little getting used to, at times.

The characters and story, for the most part, are pretty shallow with nothing explained beyond the top layer. We hardly get to see the underlying motives and backgrounds for any of the characters, and the story seems like a tacked-on afterthought.

The character interactions, however, were entertaining enough to mitigate some of those problems. There are a wide range of personalities in the show that mix well with each other, providing some humorous dialogue on occasions.

All in all, it was just good fun to watch some slick, well-animated action scenes. I just wish the story was better crafted. None of the "major" events really seemed to have the impact they should have, which is a shame, since it could've been easily mended with some added tidbits of info leading to the end.

MegaMan Maverick Hunter X: The Day of Sigma - 7
A one episode OVA that comes with the PSP game of the same name, it's not all that bad overall. The animation is decent, and the story kept me interested. It also sheds some light on the events that happen in the PSP game as well as other MMX games that feature Sigma. That said, MegaMan fans will ultimately get the most out of this one, as every character is from the games, and not much is told about them during the 30 minute OVA. If you have a working knowledge of MegaMan X, then I'd say give this a go.

Nodame Cantabile - 9/10. It's actually the first new series I've watched in a long time. I've been out of the habit, so to speak. Nothing came along that jumped out at me.

Funnily enough, my decision to watch this was based solely on Taleweaver's review a few weeks ago, and I can't thank him enough. It rekindled my interest in both anime and classical music in one go.

Pretty much no storyline and you know the characters from the game. The action is alright. It's pretty much a short, fun show thats only good once. If you like the games, you'll probably like this for enjoyment.

Chrno Crusade - 7.5/10
I just finished this show and I had started it a long time ago. It certainly was depressing, but a pretty decent show nonetheless. There are a lot of characters: pretty much they all die, all the major ones at least The show was pretty good as a whole, interesting plot and characters.

The good: A solid storyline peppered with good characterization of interpersonal relationships. It's refreshing in that there's really no antagonist, and that the interactions between the younger and older generations are generally cooperative rather than adversarial. Eek's comparison to Angelic Layer is an apt one.

The bad: Unlike Angelic Layer, which had kickass choreography, there's no outstanding visual aspect that would've improved the overall grade. The character design is a bit substandard, especially with all the impossible hairstyles. Shima's self-doubt gets a bit tiresome later on.

The ugly: Ye gods, that's some fugly mecha. Also, boo to Geneon for using eight discs for 26 eps, with virtually no extras.

Lucky Star: 6/10.

I think Lucky Star is going to be a polarizing show, because either the humor works for you or it doesn't. The high reliance on anime/manga/game jokes and KyoAni's many self-references ensures that. I personally enjoyed the show and it made me chuckle, but I can't give it a higher rating because especially for a Western audience, it's probably not going to connect with a lot of people.

Bottom line, if you like Konata, you'll probably like the show; if you don't, you probably won't.

Not to be a copy-cat...

Lucky Star: 6.7
As Apolyion put it, this is a love it or hate it anime, especially with humor. Some of the references to other anime made me laugh (Especially the DBZ karaoke for one of the endings), but the bombardment of Haruhi references made me groan more often than not. Simply put, Lucky Star tried too hard to be something like Genshiken or Comic Party.

That aside, the art is nice and bright, and the animation is decent, though KyoAni may have set fan standards too high with their work on Haruhi. Other than that, Lucky Star is a toss-up for fans. I say give it a try...just be prepared for more groans than laughs.

The Girl Who Lept Through Time - 8/10
I thought this movie was really good. It starts off a little slow, but it picks up and the story is kinda weird, but in a good sense. Time travel is the way to go. I like how there are very few characters, but the story develops differently each time Makoto leaps. It is worth seeing definately.

El-Hazard: The Magnificent World - 6.5/10
The bare-bones plot and characterization left a lot to be desired. Such a charming cast would deserve at least a full-length series. Well, actually they got two, but I've heard some not-so-good things about its two TV series El-Hazard: The Wanderers and El-Hazard: The Alternative World.

No matter, it's not like that's actually going to stop me from at least checking them out.

Kaze no Stigma - 5/10. Sorry, Gonzo, but you bombed another one. This has to be one of the worst shows I've stuck with for the whole run in the last two or three years - and that's saying a lot. The art and animation were even kind of bad, particularly with character art harkened back to the early 2000s "paint by numbers" style CGI animation that looks amateurish and well below the standards Gonzo normally brings to this arena. The writing was never very good, but it got positively pathetic by the end. What a waste of my time.

Code E - 7.9/10. At 12 episodes this show ends just as its major (and interesting-seeming) plot is really getting started, or it'd have a much higher grade. It looks quite good visually, the aforementioned plot has a lot of promise, and most of the characters are interesting - except, as usual, for the male lead. Then it ends, and rather abruptly with many loose threads still dangling. If it went on another 12 episodes and kept the same pace with a focus on the plot that was starting up, it'd probably be over a 9.

I rather liked the El Hazards, but different strokes for different folks. At the very least the world design and background art is worth watching at least once, IMO, anyway.

Lucky Star: 7

Like the others have mentioned here, Lucky Star will be a polarising show. It's one of those love it/hate it shows. I for one found it amusing.

Most of the jokes are centred around the anime/manga sub-culture, with some MMO stuff thrown in for good measure. If you aren't privvy to some of the shows (and memes) behind the jokes, it probably won't be very funny. Many of Lucky Star's conversations tend to veer off on strange tangents, something I found relatable, other may not.

Whilst there is a good selection of characters by the end, most of them come in far too late in the show to really make an impact. Like said, if you like Konata, you will probably like this show. The biggest thing that does get annoying is the amount of Haruhi pushing. Nary an episode goes by without some sort of Haruhi reference.

But overall, an amusing show.

I just realised that I didn't do one for Code Geass ~1st Season~

Code Geass ~1st Season~: 8

OVerall a good show. It did lose me a bit when the focus shifted away from politics and strategy more toward GIANT ROBOTS YEAH! It also has quite a non-ending in anticipation of the 2nd Season.

I was going to ask about Code E, but it seems it really is only 12 episodes. I'll edit in a review in a little while, but for now I must say there had better be a second season.

Code E: 7
This show went nearly unnoticed, and I'm very glad it was mentioned in the summer anime thread. It is quite a good show. It's very well animated, and the music fits nicely with the setting and mood of the series.

The characters are well designed (Ebihara's design is one I genuinely found cute), and overall rather interesting. Apart from the male lead, who is rather dull but fortunately the focus isn't on him. The premise, whilst not too original is well executed and is kept interesting.

the only problem is that it's so short. When we hit the final episode, the story has only just begun. I suspect that there is a second season intended, but this ending left no closure at all. If the rest of the show hadn't been so good, it would have had a much more negative effect on the score.

Overall, a very nice show, I do recommend watching it particularly if you like the slice of life stuff. Just pray that it gets another season.

Gah, I didn't read the thread title properly. Apologies to Chouji, but I reckon we should continue on with this thread rather than starting up another one.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society: 8

Quite a good movie overall, a worthy addition to the Stand Alone Complex franchise. Well thought out and executed, it was a good way to spend an hour and a half. Though those who aren't familiar with the TV series may have a bit of trouble getting a grip on all the various characters, those who have seen the show will have no problem getting into the movie as it plays out like one long TV episode mixing politics, intrigue and good old dakka dakka in one neat package.

And there lies perhaps it's greatest flaw, in it's greatest attraction. While I didn't think it went into confusing territory, it does cram a lot into 100 minutes. As a result, some if the details get glossed over in favour of pushing the plot forward (like the Uchikoma's), leaving some minor gaps in the narrative. This particular story may have been better off as a TV series. The animation is good, but not quite what I'd expect from a movie. But this is balanced by the extra attention paid to the CG, which flows flawlessly in this.

The soundtrack is more of Yoko Kanno's mastery, but the tracks lifted from the TV OST are pretty noticeable. It would have been nice if the enitre soundtrack was original, but that's a pretty minor gribble. But still, this is one damn fine movie.

Afro Samurai 8/10
This show is so short that is doesnt even have time to develop, but it doesn't even matter since it makes up for it by kicking so much ass. I watch the first episode or something when it aired on Spike TV, but now I watched the full show in it's entirety, not a great story by any means, but awesome fight scenes. Samuel L kicks major ass in this show.

I gave Seirei no Moribito a 9/10 myself. The pacing flags a little in the middle section, where just one more action episode would have kept up the adrenaline level to perfection, but otherwise I have absolutely no complaints about the show. It's superb.

Though this is a ratings thread, I never did rated the titles I posted. A chance to rectify that certain mistake!

1. Mononoke 8/10
Not a fan of the horror/supernatural genre (since I get nightmares from it), Mononoke has gotten me interested enough to start watching the said genre again in small, moderate doses, minus the nightmares. It's really different from the other shows I've seen. I will probably go for all 12 episodes.

2. Miname-Ke 7/10
I adore Chiaki. The Kana v Chiaki plot works for me, though I really hope to see more of Haruka too in the episodes to come. Lots of comedy of errors and verbal tension.

I'm pretty sure the Claymore one is one of the ones that got eaten.

Claymore: 7
Claymore is an interesting show. It takes the tried and true shounen fantasy fighter and gives it a few twists and turns that make it just that little bit different. Until we get to the final few episodes, but we will get to that later.

I did not see any notable drops in animation quality, it was pretty smooth all the way through. The character designs are unique, you can tell the Claymores apart from each other. The lesser youma for the most part are yawn inducing, but it's not the monster kicking action that's interesting. The setting and the mystery created by the show keeps the viewer wanting to see more.

Unfortunately the last few episodes are incredibly rushed, and fall into the whole 'gotta get stronger' schtick that feels so......generic. The overall story is left unfinished as well.

But depsite the final episodes, Claymore is still a decent show. If a second season is made I'm sure to be checking it out.

Byousoku 5 Centimeter - 9/10

God, the first 27-minute (part 1) of the 3-part movie has to be the most beautiful thing I've ever laid eyes on. I'm not solely referring to the visuals, but also the sweet tender relationship between the two lovebirds. Wow, Shinkai Makoto has done it again. The only upsetting thing is how the movie ended in a somewhat depressed state.

5 Cm Per Second 8.5/10
First of all this movie looks absolutely beautiful. The designs of the backgrounds and just slight details like cherry blossoms blowing in the wind make this whole film look unbelievable. The story itself is a slice of life, I did enjoy how each chapter goes through the ages. i think the first is still my favorite, since the second didn't really focus on the two main characters it focused on this other girl. Anyway another great film from Makoto Shinkai.

More things that were eaten.

Doujin Work: 7
Not quite what I expected it to be, but pretty close. It was amusing, and actually managed to carry a story through its 12 episodes, despite each episodes short length and mostly episodic nature.

It was simple, and that's what pulled it off, really. No deep plots, just following the antics of a wannabe doujin artist. The animation and music weren't anything to write home about, but they sufficed.

An amusing way to blow off a couple hours.

Mononoke: 9 10
Mononoke is a fascinating show. A series of short ghost stories, each one is a rather compelling tale that's grips you with a sense of mystery. But perhaps the most striking thing about Mononoke is the art style. It is unique, that's for sure. More in the line of Gankutsuou than anything else. I found it brilliant, but it may be a turn off for some.

Each story has a conclusion, but it does have a very odball way of telling the story. It never quite goes into confusing territory, but it does jump about a bit in a manner that can be disconcerting. Again, I found it to be a very interesing way to tell a story, but I can see how it might not attract some.

Overall, I found it a brilliant show. I want more!

Lovely Complex: 5.5
Lovely Complex starts off very strongly with interesting characters, excellent comedic timing and a very fun art style. However, by about episode 9-10 the show begins to drag out a particular plot point out ad nauseum, to the point where I actually was yelling 'no fair!' at the end of selected episodes which contain the most annoying plot extension device ever conceived.

New characters introduced during and after this section become throw away plot devices, tossed aside when their role is done and rarely heard from again. Several of the fantastic side characters get an episode, but it feels forced, and kind of too late in the series to make a difference.

The final episode is a refreshing return to form, but it's too late to save this from the average pile. It is a shame because it started off so well.

Edit: Stuff what I think other people may think about the storytelling, Mononke was bloody brilliant, and it deserves a 10.

A couple more that were eaten. I thinks that's the last of them.

Heroic Age: 7
Heroic Age is a strange show for me. On one hand it was enjoyable, a suitably EPIC space opera with some interesting ship designs and an overall interesting stoy.

But on the other many of the characters were pretty blah, the story unfolded in a predictable manner and the battles were pretty boring DBZ style affairs piling superpower upon superpower, but on a universal scale. Woe to any fleet of millions that get in the way of the Nodos.

Perhaps it was the hammy way the show unfolded that made it so amusing to watch, but I had a good time watching it.

Karin: 7
An interesting and cute take on vampires. The characters were fairly cliché (in design and character), but their antics were still amusing enough. Karin's 'Nooooooo' did get annoying after a while, though.

It was animated well overall, though I didn't much care for any of the music bar the ED. A good watch overall.

And for a new one!

Genshiken: 8
A very interesting show about nerds, and their club. The story flowed well, and was rather amusing all the way through. The music fits quite nicely, adn it is well animated overall.

The final episode was compressed, it could have benefitted from an extra episode, and throughout the series I think it would have been nice if we got more of a view of their university life (like what they are studying).

But overall, a good show. I recommend it.

Galaxy Angel: 5.5
Not much to say abou this one. A Mildy amusing show, with stock characters. Episodic, no overall plot aside from searching for the 'lost technology' (whatever that may be). The comedy ranges from stuff that is funny to 'oh, ha ha' type funny, but it does keep an overall amusement value for the duration. At 12 minutes per episode, it's a good little time waster if you have a few minutes to spare.

And I'm pretty this this is the last post that got eaten in the pruning accident:

Hanaukyo Maids: 3.5
Consider this: Every single harem cliché you can think of crammed into a 12 episode (+3 part OVA) TV show. It has to be funny right? WRONG. The shows lead is every harem male norm you can think of. He's a nice guy who's dense when it comes to girls and incidentally is allergic to girls. Probelm being that stuffing every lead you can think of makes him even more sad than usual. The maids have the Oneesama, the samurai girl, the bumbling genius and just about every other harem female standard you can think of. But I do have to give them props for the tsuntsun/deredere multiple personality disporder mute loli genius, I haven't seen that one before.

The show itself has boring music, QUALITY ANIMATION, a completely implausible premise, a non-ending and on the whole is unfunny. There are a few good gags there, even if they are a tad predictable, but I'm not sure if it's worth watch through for them alone. The character designs are alright though, so it was easy to look at. Thankfully it's mercifully short, at 15 minutes an episode.

So....I really can't even recommend this to harem fans, it's just not special.

Elfen Lied: 6
I wasn't quite sure what to expect going into this. I had heard it was rubbish, and also that it was pretty good. But overall, it was pretty 'meh'. Elfen Lied contains several very heavy subjects, but doesn't really do much with them.

There are a tad few too many flashbacks, and there are a couple of major plot points that are left unresolved at the end of the series. Another thing Elfen Lied has is gratuitousness, and lots of it. Violence, blood, nudity, if you are at all adverse to any of these, stay away from Elfen Lied as it has it in buckets. It does detract from the show some, and makes it difficult to watch.

Whilst not as bad as I had thought, it had the makings of a good show but I felt it was mishandled.

Zombie Loan: 5.5
Zombie Loan was an interesting show. Not the greatest out there, but it was well handled. And then it ended. Like that. No warning, no conclusion, no final culmination or anything. It ended. It rivals Kare Kano for worst ending ever. I mean, the story was just heating up.

That cost it big points. If it had a proper ending, it could have ended up in the 7 - 7.5 range. The music was fitting, and overall it was well animated. The characters were rather standard, but their designs were alright.

I don't know how to recommend this one. On one hand, it was amusing enough, but on the other the ending jerked me around enough to get rather annoyed at it. Watch at your own risk.

Baccano!: 9
Simply brilliant. Baccano! is one of the few shows that has a huge cast of characters an manages to give them all a decent amount of screentime, and weave what seem to be very disparate stories into a very neat ending. Each story is in itself also rather interesting, though the Jacuzzi and Nice backstory didn't get as much attention as the others.

The cast of characters are all wonderfully psychotic, and play off each other beautifully. Each character has a motivation for what they are doing (well, perhaps not Isaac and Miria, but they are special), and each can be connected to in some manner.

The animation did take a couple of dips in quality, but that was overshadowed by the great cast, story and the Kicking Rad soundtrack. Be warned, though, you do have to pay attention, as it can get quite hairy following what is going on.

Still, this is one hell of a show, I highly reccomend it.

Neon Genesis Evangelion gets a 10, Naruto gets a 10, Ramen Fighter Miki gets an 8.5 (that one isn't in English yet...) Please, Teacher totally gets a 10,
and Yu-Gi-Oh GX gets an 8. (I liked the original better.)

I could go on for days about each one, but let's just concentrate on my most recent addition to my anime palette, Neon Genesis Evangelion.

WHAT A SHOW! I've not seen the movies yet, but the mainstream series was amazing. The musical score wasn't all that impressive, but it was worth ignoring to see that plot. What a head-trip it was to try to understand all the ideas presented in the final few episodes. A guy I showed it to just played it off as emo. Whatever. I love it when drama and philosophy are brought into an anime, and I say bravo. Rei Ayanami was my favorite character (she is just so cool and cute!). She seems to have a pretty big fanbase, though I've met one Eva addict who absolutely hates her. As to the other characters, I've many I like (such as Asuka and Misato.) I did NOT like commander Ikari, as he treated the women in his life like dirt. Especially poor Rei.

The animation looks archaic in the age of computers, but I like that classic look. It feels more human, somehow.

Well, that does it for now. If I see any more soon, I'll pop on in again and tell ya about 'em. Later!

Eureka Seven - 9.2/10

Finally finished it (only one and a half years late!), but it was great. Disagree with SC's take on the personality changes (except for Anemone, but that's a different story) and the "convenient" ending. Fullmetal Alchemist's ending was much more due ex machina imo. Unfortunately, the show did stumble as the ending neared. The complete abandonment of secondary characters, cheesy dialogue (although this could have been fault from subbers), and those damn kids really started annoying me. These faults really took away the "legendary" status I would have given it, which is even more unfortunate since I thought the actual ending itself was great; Where FMA had a shitty ending that was nonetheless handled well, Eureka7 had a great ending that was just handled poorly.

Still, the pros GREATLY outweigh the cons, and I'd put this down as the best anime of...whatever year it was from. 2005? 6? Doesn't matter, since it was that awesome.

Finally finished this series and what a great one it was. Great action, story, characters, just about everything in the series worked. Denno Coil: 8.5
Easily one of the best things to come out this year, Denno Coil is insightful, touching and genuinely moving. Following the paths of Yuuko Okonagi and Yuuko Amasawa, each episode left me waiting to see the next as soon as I could get my sweaty hands on it.

Denno Coil has beautiful artwork, reminiscent of ABe's work in Haibane Renmei (the art drew me to the show in the first place), and is fairly well animated. The music was pretty good, but there were a couple of emotional scenes that were drowned out by the soundtrack. Fortunately it doesn't happen all that often, but it is rather noticeable when it does happen. One important character is introduced early enough, but more could have been done with him to make more of an impact. There is a fair amount of technobabble in the show. I think I got a grasp on what the Denno is, but this is probably the biggest gripe with the show. It can be difficult to wrap your head around the concepts of the Denno that are presented,

Well, I've done it again, I've rambled on about the rather minor flaws in the show, and not about how damn good it was. Aside from that one character, everyone else got a decent amount of screen time, so there weren't any throwaway characters. For once there was a satisfactory ending that was not rushed or contrived, and on the whole made sense. That in itself speaks volumes to me. I reccomend Denno Coil to.....well just about anybody, unless you don't like slow pacing in any shape or form. I am so buying this if it ever gets a licence.

Tsukuyomi: Moon Phase: 7
Not a bad show, but not what I thought it would be. Stay away if you don't like moe. The story itself was rather generic-y but interesting enough, but the little wacky things that constantly happen throughout the show make it stand out.

Though the art and design are standard fair for an anime, the director makes interesting use of camera angles and lighting to make it a visually interesting piece. There are some side plot points that I felt were unresolved at the end, but the main story concludes satisfactorily.

An interesting little show, overall. Should get some giggles, but again, if you don't like moe, don't bother.

And a-bump!

Minami-ke: 9.5
Brilliant. Simply brilliant. Aside from perhaps a couple too many Chiaki torturing Kana skits and very few flat jokes, this is an absolute blast.

Maybe some parallels between such shows as Lucky Star and Azumanga Daioh can be made due to the nature of the show, but frankly, I think Minami-ke blows them both out of the water. Better paced than Azu, and infinitely more universal than Lucky Star (there aren't all that many Japanese culture specific references either), Minami-ke got a good belly laugh out of me at least once per episode.

The thing I liked the most that all the characters were recognisable stereotypes, but were different enough to make them stand apart from their contemporaries.

You know, I could dribble on an on about how damn good I found this show to be, so I will just finish here and say watch it!

Reign the Conquerer a.k.a Alexander Senki..................................8/10
Bizarrely, this series is the best telling of Alexander the Great's life story around, even with the batshit Peter Chung designs, which only make it even more fun.

Slow Step.............................................................................8.5/10
underrated gem from the man who brought you Touch.

Samurai Champloo 9/10
Finally I finish this fantastic series. Awesome characters and stylish action and samurai fighting you can not be. Very well directed and incredibly funny and awesome at the same time. It definitely ranks as one of my top anime shows now.

Appleseed 7/10
I thought the 3D animation combined with the anime style look really good and definitely exceeded my expectations on that note, but story wise it got a little complicated with all the elders and Gaia and that whole deal. But it was very enjoyable and had some pretty cool action scenes. I would have liked to see a little more character development between Doonan and Briarios, who are the main characters, their relationship doesn't seem to go anywhere, which kind of disappointed me I guess.

Myself;Yourself: 5
I didn't find it to be highly original from the outset, but it was interesting enough. I was surprised when various plot twists came in and made the show more interesting as the series went on, and then BANG! it ended all happy like.

Not that the happy ending was a bad thing, it's just that the main characters storyline (i.e. the most important) was started, expanded, resolved and epilogued in about one and a half episodes. It was most unsatisfying. The epilogue also introduced the end to a sub-plot that never happened, and re-opened and left hanging a previous plot that was finished. It could have easily gone on for a full 26 episodes, expanding on what were pretty heavy topics and been a better show for it.

Other than the utter mess of an end, the other aspects weren't that bad. It was well animated, the character designs were cute but rather standard. The music was alright, the OP was catchy with it's keytar riff and the ED was OK. Overall, a disappointing show. The middle started showing some promise, but what I consider poor planning wrecked it.

Well, it seems Genshiken 2 was only 12 episodes. ANN initially said 13. That's....slightly disappointing.

Genshiken 2: 7.5
A worthy successor to Genshiken. Continuing on from where Genshiken left off, Genshiken 2 follows the trials and tribulations of the Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture. The series continues to expand upon out characters, but knowledge of the OVA is necessary. As I have not seen that, I don't know how Ogiue came to join the club, nor how Kuchiki came back.

I'm still not complete fan of the art style, but it grew on me. The music is fitting, though be warned in the strongest of senses: Episode 5 is all levels of epic WRONG. Brain bleach is required immediately after viewing that particular episode. But despite this, the antics of the club are enjoyable to follow. The ending was a bit truncated, though. it left a plot point hanging, and Sasahara's.....trial was a bit compressed. I was under the impression that it was 13 episodes, not 12, and it could have used the extra episode.

But still, it was a good show, I enjoyed it. I'll be in for another installment if there is one (and I felt there was room left for one).

Edit: Ok, I was getting mixed up somewhere. ANN always had 12, I had 12 in my list, but 13 fell out of my arse somewhere and floated into my head. Don't know how that happened.

Paprika

8/10

I love how Satoshi Kon continues to direct with an almost effortless fluency on a visual standpoint, however, I still prefer the way he approached his first two films (Perfect Blue, Millenium Actress) as opposed to everything he's done from Tokyo Godfathers and onward. Total chaos that is still very fun to watch, and the concept helps keep things very interesting.

Shadow Skill OVA

4/10

BORING! Nice looking artwork meets mediocre story and characters. But yeah, if I wanted a good fight, I'd go watch Ninja Scroll.

Roujin Z

8/10

I decided to watch this again for no apparent reason, and I still like the idea of a test bed being made to take care of the elderly for struggling families. Even though the film is indeed quick to the punch, it is a hoot to watch, and it still holds up pretty well when considering all of the great anime I've seen in my lifetime.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (1st season) - 9/10

Not much character development besides the Tachikoma, the Major, and Togusa, but for an action series so good at everything else (visuals, music, plot), who cares? All the Salinger references don't hurt, either. This is superior to the original movie in every sense, much like Buffy.

Kimagure Orange Road: I Want to Return to That Day - 9/10

Deftly transitioned from the romantic comedy that characterized the TV series into a first-rate romantic drama. It avoided resolving the love triangle in a sappy manner and had the courage to show how it turns out as many triangles do -- badly.

Bubblegum Crisis - 7/10

The fact that it had multiple directors compromised the overall quality and gave it a disjointed feel; it would've been better if there was one unifying vision for the story. As such, despite the constancy of the fantastic action sequences and the music, I was going to rate this a 5 or 6 before watching the last two episodes.

Serial Experiments Lain - incomplete

I think this is one of those titles that I'll have to re-watch at a later date to properly evaluate. I sorta followed along for the first four episodes, but the fifth episode shot everything to hell. It was still interesting enough to compel me to finish watching, but there's just too much all over the place for me to assign a numerical grade to it.

Hajime no Ippo Episodes 1-7: 10/10 - I feel like I wanna punch something. I mean this in a GOOD way.

Wait till you get to the episodes with Sendo. You should probably watch them in a straitjacket for the safety of your surroundings.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei: 7.5
An oddball little series this. Starting out as a black comedy in the vein of Welcome to the NHK! And it is quite funny, if you can keep up with all the translations note.

The curse and joy for this series (for the non-Japanese, and even then some things fly by so quickly I think native speakers would have some trouble) is that most of the the humour is dialogue related, as in plays on words and puns and the like, so it's necessary to have squidloads of translation notes throughout and at the end to make sure it's all understood. And I stil don't get some of the jokes. It's certainly the reason why it took so long for subbers to finish it, and it might be a bit much for some people.

The show does peter out at the end though. The final few episodes lose their edginess and their blackness, and they aren't as funny. The artwork is farily stylised, it looks good. It's well animated overall and the music, bar the OP for ep 10 & 11, is fitting.

I would say if you're willing to keep up with the notes and pausing it every now and them to read, then it's woth watching.

Probably one of the best Romance anime I have ever seen. Everything from the visual to the audio (including the flawless voice acting) was done in the most masterful way. I could gush forever about this series.

Hajime no Ippo - 11/10 (Dude, it goes to 11!): Slack in the artwork here and there, and some rare cliché monologue. That's it. Those are the two minor things keeping this show from being the best damn thing I've ever seen. Definitely, definitely going in my Top 5.

Ah! Megami-sama ~Tatakau Tsubasa~: 5.5

I was really hoping that that wasn't it. But that's all there was, 2 episodes and end. needless to say, the entire thing felt incredibly rushed. A real sense of suspense could have been built around this.

Not much was going for this, the music was generic and there were far too many still frames during the combat sequences. It wasn't all that well animated either.

At least it did make sense, despite the hurry it was in, and there were some entertaining moments during special so all was not lost. It just isn't as good as previous incarnations.

Mobile Fighter G Gundam: Awesome/10

This is the first alternate universe Gundam series to appear and, wow, it is a big departure from the Universal Century in terms of realism and focus. Only the man that gave us the likes of Giant Robo could have pulled this off and boy does he deliver. The show is full of cliché archetypes and stereotypically inspired designs but the creators have actually made what should have been weaknesses into strengths. I realised I couldn't really judge this by typical criteria once I saw a man that could fight mobile suits with his bare hands followed by a hasty exit while standing on top of a horse [that and the German Ninja Clown].

The first few episodes did come across as formulaic but once you get to meet Master Asia you realise that a solid foundation has been laid down and the previous encounters have introduced all the major characters of the story. The pacing is fantastic, an increasing spiral of linked story arcs that escalate into epic proportions.

If you enjoyed Gurren Lagaan, Giant Robo or even Gundam give this a try.

Moyashimon ~Tales of Agriculture~: 7.5
A fascinating little show with an oddball premise. It will make you laugh, it will teach you stuff you didn't know before (unless you are a microbiologist), and it will make you want to puke, sometimes all at the same time!

Unfortunately the show's ending is a little rushed, the issues could have used a bit more expanding upon. But the end still makes sense, so it's not all that bad. Also, events in episode 8 make for great running gags, but that opportunity is missed. At time I did find it a little difficult to differentiate between a couple characters, but that happens rarely.

Overal, a good little show, well worth the watch despite the flaws.

Edit: Well, after umming and ahhing over whether to double post, I thought it best to edit the latest.

Macross Zero: 6.5
A prequel to Macross? Animated with modern technologies? Awesome. And awesome it did look. Crisp animations, distinct character designs, nice CG and Valkyrie goodness to be had all round. The story itself was OK, it made sense so following what was happening wasn't a problem. The music was fitting, sounding almost like Kanno.

So why did I put it down so low? Because I found Macross Zero adds very little to the Macross universe. There are no new revelations on the Macross or it's creators, you never really find out just what it is the Anti-UN forces are fighting for (and how they got the technology), and you don't really discover anything about the birdman, except for excerpts from the natvie folklore.

If I had come to it without any preconceptions of what I thought it woul
