Naruto (eps. 20-30): 8 Naruto's still loud, Sakura's still useless (but my brother had the next couple episodes playig a while back, I wasn't paying much attention, but I'm pretty sure I remember this as going to change), and they still talk too much, but I'll be damned if I'm not having fun!

Fukatroioroi Alternative-stuff 1-3 = Started out lots of fun but now it seems to be mellowing out and stuff...
And other than that, I just have a lot of stuff that NEEDS to be watched.

Bottle Fairy - 9
I picked this up after seeing Liegenschonheit's review, because I was bored and wanted something that would finish downloading overnight. I was pleasantly surprised to see how much I enjoyed this. The 12 minute episodes are perfect; they finish off right before they get boring.
Fantastic Children - 8 or 9
Wow, this was lots of fun, although the art style and pacing didn't really appeal to me. I also thought Thoma was kind of annoying. But aside from that, this show was so cool! I loved the music, especially the ultra dramatic tracks. I even enjoyed the ending, but I would have liked to see what happens to all the characters, not just Helga.
Kannazuki no Miko - 6
This show has so many flaws it's disgusting. But still, I found myself having lots of fun watching this. And I hate mecha.
Mahoraba 1-15 - 8 or 9
This show is amazing.
School Rumble - 8
While a few of the episodes are not really funny (1st and 26th), for the most part, this show had me rolling on the floor laughing. I love all the characters so much.

Full Metal Alchemist - 9 - (ep 1 - 10) so far it is very interesting and the characters seem like they'll get a lot of depth to them later in the series. I really like the story a lot.
Tenchi Muyo GXP - 9.2 - (ep 1 - 10) I'm a sucker for this genre and for tenchi so I had to bump the score up a little. This is an interesting side story to the tenchi universe and I like where the relationships are going. Gotta go buy the whole series so I can finish it!

Planetes - 9
An anime made compelling not always by its storyline (of which there isn't really much of one until the second half) but by its characters. Replete with a bittersweet but strangely optimistic ending, drama, quirky moments and compelling, unusual themes, Planetes is definitely one of the best series of 2004.

Cat's Eye - 6
I've got a soft spot for old-skool shows, back before it occurred to anime to show people lots of tits and asses and the whole franchise seemed more innocent.
Anyway.
This is a good show, for what it is. The humor is cheesy, the drama is cheesy, the action is cheesy. A simple, quaint little blend of Lupin the 3rd and Bubblegum Crisis. One of those shows that I won't be buying if it ever gets licensed, but will watch because it's free and I'm bored.
Windy Tales - 8
After episodes 3 and 4, I was convinced the storyline had dragged and it would be nothing but boring, if endearing, "adventures." Episode 5 restored my faith that this show actually has something to say, though. Vunderful.

Full Metal Alchemist - 9.3 - I really liked the story, and most of all the characters! I really was sad to see this one end. The ending was sufficient, left me wanting more but definitely had a conclusion to it. They tied up most of the questions rather well. I definitely recommend it to everyone!

Well I was at a con very recently and saw a few anime screenings.
Heres my impressions on what I saw.
*Genshiken(the end of epiosde 2-4)- 9
First of I knew I would like this because it does really appeal to me to an extent both and otaku and a gamer. I found it to be hilarious and enjoyable poking some real good fun at otakuness . Great characters too.
Planetes (end of episode 2, episode 3)- 9
Despite seeing it a bit late, I got a grasp of how some of these characters are like and I already was really into it. I do undersatnd a bit of how natural the series was and can picture this as if it was in real life. It gives me a bit of a Fruits Basket feel mainly because of the great set of characters that make me say "Screw plot!" hearing theres very little plot in this as well, but its all about the chracters. It felt really engaging
ps: omg the insurance people are annoying!
Dear Boys/Hoop Days (episodes 4 and 5)- 8.5
I caught it right when the ending song of episode 3 and first thought was both the opening and ending music was meh since the hip hop genre of music was unappealing to me, but watched the two episodes and thought it was very good as well. Sure its another sports anime, but I just really seem to like them. I dont like to watch sports nor I even play them (gamer by heart, not an athlethe), but what I usually like about these kind of anime is the chracters. Usually I find the characters to be either likable and/or intense so was able to get into them. Aside from the pretty weak musi, I did enjoy this and like most of these sports anime, great cliffhangers. Did really wonder whats gonna happen after epiosde 5, but the screening ended :(
**Cybuster (episodes 1 and 2)- 8
Nothing special, but it was an interesting watch despite my general unappeal towards mecha anime. I do like the male lead being quirky, but also has a sense of maturity especially toward his own sibling. wasen't complext at all from what I saw and really gives an old school feel. I try looking more info about it on AA, but there was little information about the series so I guess its one of those very unknown titles.
I did think Cybuster was good, but not interested enough to buy the series. The first three I was really interested to purchase and I was able to only get the first volume of Dear Boysand according to ANN, it was going to be in stores June 28. Genshiken wont be on DVD about a month after Dear Boys and sadly was unable to find the Planetes DVD :(
*-This was the only dub screening I watched. The rest I saw subbed
**- Orignally the video room was suppose to show Stratos 4 (which I never heard of either) and so wind up watching Cybuster (which I didnt hear of before anyways)
Although I really don't have anything to compare them too I watched Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro and Porco Rosso recently and both were fantastic. I'm new to anime so I'm playing it safe as far as what I buy right now and both got great reviews here so I figured they were a safe bet.
futakoi alt just epsiode 7(it was so good it deserves a seperate score)
i give a 9.9/10 just for that episode.........

Di Gi Charat (eps. 13-24): 8 This is one series I have not been able to fathom. Why is this so entertaining? Why are those tried and true jokes so damn funny? I honestly cannot explain why I like this so much......or even why I can give it such a high score.....I mean, I like Steel Angel Kurumi alot, but I would only give that a 6..... :3huh: The mind boggles, in fact I bet if I think about it to much my brain will melt.:melting Just enjoy!
Twelve Kingdoms: 8.5 As I expected, this was good right to the end, with the main downer being the one wasted story arc. Never mind, for as far as I know, the books are still going, so maybe there will be more, and we can pick it up from there!

Kino's Journey - 9. I've seen two episodes now. So far, so good. This show is poised to become a new favorite of mine. I saw someone complain that Kino waxes philosophical too much in this show, but I disagree. She muses a lot to her motorbike, but the imagery conveys the messages in much more subtle and beautiful ways (the three rabbits' furs were quite poignant). It's a lot like Galaxy Express 999, which I don't mind because I love GE999. I'm also ready to find out in what ways it will be unique, though.
Rose of Versailles - 6. A little melodramatic so far, but enjoyable. I was also confused by the closing line "And Oscar said goodbye to her womanhood, thus stepping into adulthood," which seemed to be the theme of the first episode. There was really no hint that Oscar ever acted like a woman to begin with, so I don't know what that was about.

Fantastic Children (to episode 18) - 9.5
OMG what a great show. The first episode confused me a bit, but things became clearer and clearer, and so far I can't find a plot hole, despite the complexity of the plot. I actually love the simple character designs, since it reminded me even more of the older titles like Future Boy Conan. I really like the show up to the Gricia part, which then floored me completely.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (eps.17-20): 7.5 I becoming more and more disappointed with this. I'm still enjoying it, but there is so much filler.....out of the past 8 episodes, there has only been 1 story ep, and that's not good in my book. Still, I'm sitll lookig forward to the next disc, I just hope it picks up,

Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor - 8.5
Probably forever destined to remain perpetually unnoticed by Western fandom, this superior conspiracy/introspective mecha show definitely proves to be something of a surprise. Boasting wonderful animation (and probably the best use of CG in an anime I've yet to see) and an absorbing, addictive storyline offset nicely by an interesting cast of characters, this is ultimately a really very good show indeed.

Tenchi Muyo GXP - 9.1 - (first half) - I'm really shocked by how interesting this series is. I had low expectations (b/c of Tenchi in Tokyo) coming into this but I really like it! Of course its very cookie-cutter in style, characters, and story but if you like the Tenchi universe than you'll like this. I'm interested in the relationships and characters, and I think it molds into the current tenchi universe quite well without stepping on its toes. I can't wait to see the story unravel.

Now and Then, Here and There: 9.4/10 Wow. This anime is just completely, wow. I was a little sketchy about buying this anime knowing nothing at all about it and the art looked pretty low for my eyes, especially for this anime being made in 1999. The story is magnificent, with it's powerful intake on war and struggle for survival. The voice acting I completely loved, the seiyuu did a magnificient job on each character they portrayed, especially with Shu's voice. From his soft kind tone of encouragement to anger and brutal sounds. This anime was great in fitting in specific details into just 13 episodes. The reason however for not giving this anime a perfect 10 is because of the ending, it was definitely a tear jerker no doubt about it, though it just seemed to stop in it's tracks in a way once the ending credits began. Otherwise one of the best anime I have ever seen, it is definitely a must buy.

His and Her Circumstances: 8.3/10.
One one side of the coin, Kare Kano is the most enthralling anime I've ever seen as it shifts from pulse-intensive drama to super-deformed hilarity to heart-fluttering romance all within a heart-beat, but on the other side of the coin it is the most exasperating anime I've ever seen as it has tentative animation, a non-existant ending and it feels the need to reiterate everthing at least once. (Yes, they were wearing metaphorical masks, yes, they helped each other become their true selves, yes, they want to depend on each other now, GET ON WITH IT!). Basically, it's so exasperating because it jerks you around when your finding it so enthralling.
Still, when it's focused it's one of the best romances I've ever seen (anime or not). Welcome to my Top 10.

Niea under 7 (eps 1-4):8 I love this series so far. Not all the comedy works for me but I really really like it, especially Mayuko, she's such a great character.
Spirited Away: 9.5 FINALLY I get to see this film. The more I think about it, the more I like it. The setting was so imaginative and full of detail. The best part was that I got to catch it at a midnight showing at a theater(the esquire) in denver (anyone from colorado go to that too?).
Paranoia Agent = 6.9
It started off with a real promise and ended okay, nothing great or even particularly good, but okay. I would have given it a 7, but the middle episodes just made the whole thing too tedious. And overall I thought they tried too hard to be all looking-into-the-human-psyche like, and thus, failed. Too bad because the themes they tied to explore could have made for a real good, thought provoking anime. I did love one thing about this anime, and that was the opening theme and animation. I think it was the best thing about the whole series and certainly the one thing that I'll remember.

You are very correct, Kare Kano is a good example of what not to do with the little recap bits. They should have concentrated on the last, maybe the episode before that, but to recap from episode 1 almost every time was more than just a little annoying.

Naruto (eps. 73-75): 8.5 This show keeps surprising me. I would have thought that this fight would have been over by now (not in a bad 'oh gee this is taking too long' way, in a good way), and ended in a completely different way. This is good.

Shura no Toki - 8.4
It's basically about a family and how all their decedents owned all the legendary samurai in history. I thought it was pulled of well, mixing a good plot line with history. The characters were all interesting, if not exactly historically correct. The anime didn't revolve around fighting so much as the history of the Mutsu line. I found it quite entertaining and even informative.

Spirited Away: 9.2/10 This movie was completely excellent, I had no expectations whatsoever for this movie but 'wow'. The art is simply amazing, one of the best I have ever seen especially with the design of the scenery. The Three Sannin arc is a bit duff really until it pulls itself up at the end, but that's just not enough. Episode 100 is really essential - it's just about Lee, but adds very little to the overall story. 102-106 is a godawful filler arc about a race in some inconsquential country that is more than emminently skippable, especially considering episodes 107-135 is probably the best damn arc of the entire series thus far.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (1-4) - 9
Wow. I'm always after anime and manga that caters to a slightly more mature audience, that features more adult subject matter (not hentai, obviously) and GITS: SAC really is just the ticket. Absolutely stunning animation, highly involving episodes that are more than simple "filler" and highly likeable characters, this is a real gem and I don't know why I didn't watch it sooner.
s-CRY-ed (1-4) - 8.5
A real love it or hate it show. Well, at least it wasn't until some fool decided to put it on Adult Swim. As far as I'm concerned it's yet another hit from the Sunrise, and thanks to the presence of director Goro Taniguchi is far more than your average fighting show. Great animation, characters and oddly refreshing music abounds, with a nice dose of OTT-ness to set things off nicely.

The Naruto Movie (rescue the snow princess or something like that.): 6 Two words. Utterly predictable. It looked pretty, and what fight scenes there were were nicely done, but they seemed to be cut short for some reason. All in all, a rather average Naruto story arc condensed into movie format.
Naruto (eps. 102-107): 7 Just as Tremolo said, that arc was terrible. It was only saved from a 5.5 or a 6 by the start of the new arc, with a good episode with the fight we've all been waiting for.

Hmm... I have been inspired. I'm a little ashamed it took me this long to finally check out these two pieces, despite the fact that I've been meaning to for a very, very long time.
Jojo's Bizzare Adventure: 9.0 Fast paced action rollarcoaster, which reminded me a lot of Read or Die, with the whole million mile a second action sequences that happen with such intensity and frequency, there's no time to stop for unimportant things like character development or back story. The STAND system makes for some very inventive fight scenes, usually revolving around our heroes trying to outwit the enemies, while probing for weaknesses. Sort of like what Naruto was... and what it should have remained (unless it went back to being good after it was licensed and I stopped watching it). The Gambler episode was by far the highlight. Dio is a monster. Seriously, his presence on screen is massive. He's possibly the most charasmatically sinister antagonist I think I've ever seen. I wasn't a huge fan of the last episode, though. Sure, the fight between Dio and Jotarou was great, but, a lot of things happened that were poorly explained at best, and I was just left scratching my head at some of the finer details. ZAH WORLDOH!
Jojo's Bizzare Adventure 2: 8.2 Prequel to the original, with far superior animation, tells of the ~30 days leading up to its predecessor. In other words, just an excuse for more fights. Fair enough, though, STAND fights always rule. And with heroes as bad ass as this motley crew, who cares that they don't get any real development (with the exception of Polnarrof... but I wasn't watching this to see his attitude change, I was watching this to see him take out some trash). Needed more Dio, though. Other than J. Gail, all the antagonists were a bit on the flat side. The final fight against Justice ended up being a huge disappointment, IMO. For some reason though, I started cheering everytime Star Platinum came out. ORA! Good stuff, but lacks a bit of that intense atmosphere that the first series had. The prison scene was a great opening, though. Yare yare daze.

AVCon 2005, and a whole swag of stuff....
Madlax (eps.1-4): 8 Intriguing, I want to know how all the strings will pull together,
Panyo Panyo Di Gi Charat (eps. 25-36): 8 Cute and funny
Cromartie High School (eps. 1-8): 6 Very bizarre, perhaps too bizarre at times...completely incoherent....I don't really know what to think about this one.
R.O.D the TV (eps. 21-23): 7.5 An interesting turn of events. I wonder how they will sort this out in 3 episodes.
Dead Leaves: 5 Frantic doesn't do this justice, frenetic is probably better. Perhaps frenzied, or rabid. It didn't make much sense. Vote for most munitions ever used in anime.
Edit
Right, some thoughts on anime I saw at the screenings at the AVCon...
Tsukuyomi Moon Phase......I liked it. It has a cute vampire girl with kitty ears. What's not to like? And that opening song was tripped out. I'll have to put this on my 'look out for' list.
Bleach first episode (the computer screwed up, and they ran out of time for anymore after they got it playing again). Looks like an amusing action series. Rather amusing.......I'll keep an eye out for it.
Paranoia Agent Intriguing.......I found it interesting, but I didn't find it compelling enough to really want to watch more. I suppose if I can get it either a)for free or b) really really cheap I'll pick it up....
A bit more of Gundam SEED Ehh, still don't like it. They seem rather selective about which laws of physics they want to obey.

Dear Boys - 7.9 - a good series with an ok story. I thought the ending was good and everything came to a satisfactory level of closure (kinda). I liked the voice acting and the characters were ok, although the side characters got kinda pushed off to the side. Now that I think about it there was no real focus on one character's developments as a basketball player.
Tennis no Ouji-sama (first 13 episodes) - 8.5 - I like the team a lot and the characters are pretty cool. The story is moving along at a good rate although it sometimes feels like a monster of the week feeling. I'm interested to see how this will turn out.

Niea_7: 8.5
I thought it was an enjoyable slice of life anime for the most part. I thought the side characters are really great and increase the enjoyment, but had some beefs with it. I am not much of a fan of Mayuko and Niea since they bicker way too much which grated on my nerves a little though Niea can be entertaining sometimes. Just like the other animes the creator made (such as Lain), there we're some unanswered questions and thought overall the music was week even if it doe's meant to feel country. Just think can be done better.

As of late I have seen the first episode of The Snow Queen. What has been described to me as an old style of animation, has struck me as quite beautiful and I really hope the series is as endearing as the first episode which in itself was gorgeous. May the Anime-God blesses the little people, and their wooden shoes.
Um, I've seen others, such as some Bleach and Emma, even some Honey&Clover, but I'm only compelled to tell you that these each had their own goodness, but none of them have amounted to what I saw in just one episode of The Snow Queen.

Prince of Tennis first season - 9.0 - a good sports anime that makes me want to play the actual sport! No big surprise there. I like the team and the mix of characters. The humor is good but isn't side splitting funny like Hajime no Ippo. I don't feel as close to the characters as well, but they are somewhat likeable.
Mai-Hime - first 10 episodes - 7.7 - The characters haven't captured my attention yet so I don't really care what happens. The story is borderline monster of the week and there seems to be little plot development so far.

Gravion ~ 7 I really didn't know what to expect, so I can't say I was disappointed U_U
Nurse Witch Komugi ~ 9 =D It's just a really funny show (sure I didn't get it most of the time) that's light on fanservice (which means it's kid friendly) but still manages to get people over the age of 16 watching XD

Yes, I did watch the fillers, and I assume that you are including the OVA in that figure there. If so, well, there is 1 episode of the TV series to go, and 4 OVA episodes. I'll give the OVA a seperate rating, as it is a seperate production.

Probably destined to forever remain a terminally-underrated series, this is marmite anime (love it or hate it) at its finest. Yes, some of the design work could be improved, the colours don't really do it any favours, there's a lot of screaming and a couple of duff episodes. But overall this a highly entertaining and addictive series, with some wonderfully fluid action scenes, nice emotional weight and an interesting plot. It won't change your life, but you'll enjoy it a lot all the same.

I missed out on what is undoubtedly one of the latest fandom darlings on its first transmission, and having read all the hype and praised heaped on it I felt it'd be amiss of me to not give it a try. And it REALLY is just as good as everyone says. The last quarter or so is perhaps the most mindblowing portion of anime I've ever had the pleasure to witness, and the furst thirteen episodes do an exceptional job of character and plot building. Wonderful character designs, stunning seiyuu work, gorgeous animation (especially in the second half), an involving and intricate plot and one amazing score from Yuki Kajiura ensures this is one of the very best anime of 2004. Highly recommended.

I saw all 26 episodes of Dai Guard, i give it a 8/10. The Heterodynes aliens werent that interesting to see and most of them a very simple looking, and the Dai Guard robot looks a lot like Mazinger, but what kept me going trough all the series were the characters wich are the real highlight of the series. Madlax, episodes 1-7: Pretty artwork. REALLY pretty artwork. Animation and action sequences are decent, but Noir's were better and done on a smaller budget. I like the two main characters. Margaret is extremely obtuse which somehow makes her loveable. Madlax herself is fascinating in how cheerful she is when she goes about killing people. But...it's just not GOING anywhere, and there's so many country and organization names thrown at you to make any SENSE of it. Score: 6
Elfen Lied, episodes 1 and 2: The artwork is pretty. The plotline is decent. But everything is so goddamned over-the-top that it's just disturbing. Restraint isn't even EXISTANT. Remember the 'Musta Hit a Bump' scene in Pulp Fiction? Well take that and multiply by about ten million, and that should impress upon you how much blood is thrown around. Also, the art style is pretty but far from suiting for this nearly-hentai little number. Score: 4

When it comes to this thread, I like to score anime that I have finished watching, but as it seems some wanker hired out the last three volumes from my local video store and thought it was a good idea not to return them.
**sigh**
Anyways, what starts off as simply cliche after cliche (silent-troubled protagonist, geniric anime cute girl, mysterious government organization aptly named "FUNERAL", etc) turns out to be quite a riverting, well written anime, much in the same vein of Gasaraki. Apart from the begining, my only other complaints is that the character designs are horrid and that is has it's fair share of corny dialogue.
Seeing the end of it would be nice, you know?

Boogiepop Phantom 7/10: It's an interesting series, but there were too many unanswered questions, and the storyline is a bit confusing because it pulls in to many directions.
Cowboy Bebop 10/10: I didn't like this series much after my first viewing but I decided to give it a second and third shot, and I was surprised to find I actually loved this anime more the second and third time around. Bebop has a great story and great characters, but the thing I didn't like was, there were too many filler episodes and not enough dedicated to the main story.
Cowboy Bebop Knockin' on Heaven's Door 9.5/10: The only problem I had with this movie is it plays more like an episode than it does an independent movie, but like all the Bebop episodes it has many lawyers to it. It's beautiful and dedicates another piece of the puzzle to characters.
Full Metal Alchemist 10/10: This series just pulls you in from the begging, has a great cast of characters, and a wonderful story, plus a nice mix of action, comedy, and drama. My only problem with this series is Al's voice, I didn't like it one bit, it sounded to childish and whinny, which made Al seem like an emo suit of armor.
Last Exile 9.3/10: This series really is a visual masterpiece, it just draws you in, not to mention the great action scenes and music, but it has a slow character and plot development, and the ending left me bitter because it leaves too many things unasnwered.
Samurai Champloo 9/10: This an incredible interesting series, because it isn't always good in the traditional sense. This series is strong at evoking certain moods, stylistically. There are a few really strong arcs in Samurai Champloo so I don't think you can say that this is a series where it's style over substance. Also the really great episodes surely make up for the bad ones, and the characters certainly make this series memorable one.
Wolf's Rain 9.5/10: An adequate series that features an interesting story and designs, fluid animation, and very decent production. Wolf's Rain is a series that is more about the journey than the actual destination. My only problem with this series is the dreadful recap block that expands episodes 15-18. And for frig sakes this series doesn't have a cliff hanger for an ending it ends at episode 30 and not episode 26, Wolf's Rain ends perfectly, seriously what else were you expecting?
God that was painful typing it out.

Recent series hmmmm........
Bleach 8.5/10 reason being is that some episodes move at a sluggish pace but on the upside bleach has a great soundtrack, well animated fight scenes and a great group of characters.
Samurai Champloo 8/10 reason being is that i felt like i didn't care about the characters themselves, also that the ending is really anti-climactic but this series packs great animated fights and unique soundtrack and unique concept.
Suzuka 8.5/10 reason being is that some episodes follow the same method that ichigo 100% did being that they felt like two part mini-episodes, but this series has a sweet and realistic romance and has had no ecchi since the first episode, Hurray!

Argentosoma: Episodes 1-14- 8/10 (so far)
When it comes to this thread, I like to score anime that I have finished watching, but as it seems some wanker hired out the last three volumes from my local video store and thought it was a good idea not to return them.
**sigh**
After being seven weeks overdue it was actually returned!
:O!
They must've had some seriously chronic late fees.
Pretty much all of this still applies. It will loose a few people at the start as the cliches and corny dialogues come thick and fast, the character designs are terrible and the ending theme song sounds like it would be better suited for Eurovision (a bad thing) but under all of this there is a solidly entertaining story, with no filler, that engages you for the entire legnth of the show.
There is also some random extra episode at the end which is not in any continuity. While it was nice to get a bit of background on Sue it, once again, resorted to poor plot devices. Avoid this little adjunct.

it's a little overwhelming, but pretty good. i can ceratinly see why everyone is making a big fuss about it. best character so far? Alphonse. it's ironic that he's a suit of armor, because he's the most human of all the characters so far.

Magic Knight Rayearth (Season 1/ Episodes 1-20): 8.0/10
I have to say first of all I really did enjoy this series quite a bit. I find that the characters were mostly likeable and the enemies weren't half bad either. However I find the animation to be lacking, especially if you compare it with the manga's art (in my opinion being the better art wise out of the two) and it being made in the 90's as well. Also I had found some of the fights to be worthwhile, while other fights were a 'heroes get severly hurt and end up defeating the enemy in one hit'. I wasn't to fond of that either. Though the storyline I find was much better placed than the manga had been and I always liked the little romance with Fuu and Ferio^^. So I got my money's worth.

This anime blew me away. When I first started watching this, I wasn't expecting much, but after seeing the first episode, I knew this was going to be a masterpiece. However, I have to admit that the action scenes in Coliseum episodes felt extremely out of place.
Silent Mobius: 7.5. It was pretty good, it had a good story, interesting characters, but after i watched it all i was left unsatisfied by the ending, it just left to many things unanswered, but at least the ending leaves the possibility for a sequel.

planetES-9/10
The characters. Loved the main character and the issues he has to deal with, his female partner is just adorable (must be one of the cutest in anime...) and the side/background characters are all interesting in their own right. In the beginning, I didn't think I would enjoy this anime as much because, well, lets just say that the first impression wasn't a very good one. But at the end of 1st episode, I knew I was watching something different. I also liked how the emotions were expressed in a subtle manner, like spacesuits hiding characters' face while talking in the first episode as it forced me to trying guessing what were they thinking and feeling, and other gestures like hand tightening on the knee and the manner of speech to indicate their state of emotions as well.
Although occassionally, I found some of the voice acting annoying. Or maybe it wasn't so much of voice acting, but pathetic attempt at humour, a thing I noticed in majority of animes (i mean, there were times it was funny, and really funny...).
And of course, I couldn't be happier with a happy ending that is done good.

Legend of Himiko - 7.5/10 - I've only seen the first 2 dvds but it seems like an average anime. The only thing that made me want to watch it is the intro song, which I've been listening too since I got into anime (around 1999 or 2000). Now I can finally watch the anime where one of my all time favorite songs came from.
The characters are pretty plain, the story isn't all that interesting, and the world doesn't draw me in. They don't really explain Bokka all that well at this point. At least there aren't any filler episodes.

.HACK//SIGN 8/10: Hmm what to say about this series, the art and music were terrific, and the characters were alright. The story I found interesting and it was the only thing that kept me coming back for more, because this series moves awfully slow pace and had very little action despite it being set in an online RPG.
Azumanga Daioh 9.8/10: When I first started watching this series I thought I'd end up hating, but I'm glad I was proven wrong. This series is absolutely hilarious, the cast is very diverse which makes them seem real and lovable, not to mention the superb acting from the seiyuu. There isn't exactly a plot to this anime, it's all about the characters and there journey through high school. The only thing that bothered me was you need a good knowledge of Japanese culture and history to get some of the jokes, or else they're just going to fly right over your head.
Vision of Escaflowne 10/10: This series is a masterpiece, I recommend people to watch this if they haven't already seen it, thank God I was able to finally view it uncut. The story is intriguing and fast paced which is great, the music is perfect, and the characters are wonderful, except maybe Hitomi she can get on my nerves at times, but the rest of the cast were golden. The animation is very vivid, but there characters all had pointy noses which makes them look sort of funny. My only disappointment was the ending, I just didn't feel satisfied with it.
Voices of a Distant Star 9.5/10: Not much to say about this anime since just about every thing about it I found to be amazing, the love story is truly brilliant, the characters are likable and real, and the ending was perfect, anything else would have just seemed cheesy. The only thing that is horrible is the animation, it's very distracting because it's so bad, and is something that can't be overlooked.

Rozen Maiden - 8
I heard that the sequel to Rozen Maiden was coming out this fall. I wanted to follow it, so I picked this up. It was tons of cute fun, but I think Sousei Seki needed a lot more screen time. After seeing the show, I still don't really know anything about her.
Well, I hope the sequel will give her a bit of development, at least. Either way, I'm really looking forward to it. ^_^

I decided to quit it with the running reviews. I think Roark put it best in one thread, I forget which one, about misleading comments, and while I think I;ve made it clear that 'this isn't finished' these opinions could be misconstrued in some way. Plus, the post count doesn't need it anymore :D.
Anyway, onto a newly finished Anime:
Panyo Panyo Di Gi Charat: 8 It it very cute, sickenly sugarly, rather amusing, and I have no idea why this entertained me so much. Something in it just worked (most of the time).
I'll go ahead and rate Loveless a 5. Cute; interesting; yet VERY confusing and it doesn't clear up.

Magic Knight Rayearth II: 8.7/10 Having read the manga of this series, I thought it would play out the same way. Well I was wrong, this anime is one of those that has a few major changes in the storyline. The animation I find is improved from the first Magic Knight Rayearth, and the storyline keeps it's RPG feel to it of the 3 girls powering up every so often which isn't a bad thing. This season centers more around Hikaru and her complications, a new enemy named Nova (who I found to be completely annoying...ugh...I hated her SO much), and a love interest as well. The score would be higher if it wasn't for the slow beginning as well as the enemies repeating the same lines every new fight and they never die! Other than that the enemies from the three countries attacking Cephiro are quite humorous and you can't help but like a few if not all of them in the end. The ending was surprising to me the most, it was good don't get me wrong however I was a bit surprised that it ended up one way than the other.
Definitely a series to check up on if you get a chance.

Love Hina Again: 5 BWTBF......BF? I went into this expecting rubbish, and it hit the mark. Running at a breakneck pace, it's hard to keep up, it just simply omits some details that pop up later, and it wasn't funny. The only parts that made me chuckle was one scene in the background and a particular quirk with my TV when the show ended. I think the sucky music had something to do with that. And add tot he fact that the quality of animation was often worse than the TV series.....and the lame-oh drama....so many crappy things. The only good point is there was a resolution of sorts.

Appleseed (movie): 6. Good fun if you like action and crisp CG. Who needs a story?
Dallos (4 of 4): 6.2. Dated animation and action B-movie plot, but would've been good fun back when it was made in the 80s. It belongs on Saturday mornings next to Thundercats and Voltron.
s-CRY-ed (up to #13): 7. More than I bargained for. I was first put off by the single-minded hero and the villain-of-the-week format, but it works within that to build characters and a plot.
Ragnarok (up to #22): 2. DBZ-bad, but not quite DBGT-bad. This is so bad that I'm completely turned off from ever trying the RPG. Action scenes are repetitive, predictable, and often have choppy animation. Major character developments are defined by class changes a la Final Fantasy (knight to crusader, cleric to priestess, assassin to assassin-with-poison). Dialogue, music, and plot devices were all taken from an Evercrack server. A "Bottom 10 List" candidate.
Gilgamesh 9.5/10: Ahh what to say, okay this is definitely not just any ordinary anime, it is different but in a good way. The animation I thougt to be beautiful and unique, but it could turn some people off, infact I didn't come to appreciate the animation until I was I think seven episodes in. I relly liked the usage of alternative angles and lighting effects because they really helped enhance the mood of certain scenes, and the dark and dreary scene work also helped because it helped get across the desperate state in which the world was in. The battles I would say are this series weakest link in terms of animation, the low frame rates make it so that many of the psychic battles are dreary and unengaging.
The actual of Gilgamesh is fairly intriguing and is an interesting and layered mystery involving a number of different people and factions. The initial few episodes make this anime seem like another X but only in a post Apocalyptic world.
The actual development work for most of the characters is rather strong, although some viewers might find it hard to emphasize with many of them. The characterization focuses more subtlety and nuance. Viewers might find might initially interpret that as the characters being flat but as the show progresses and the plot begins to unfold you'll see that the characters are given more depth. There are are number of Gilgamesh introduced during the show but they get little or no development, the show could have been stronger if they had shown more of the events from the Gilgamesh's point of view.
Though I found this to be an interesting series, I admit that after viewing the end I felt kind of hallow, it seemed a bit rushed and certain final plot clarifications, even though they made sense left me a bit unsatisfied. The final few episodes could have been paced differently to better communicate the themes of the show with out leaving the viewer feeling overwhelmed and sudden at the end.

It was good; I liked the character designs and the plot of the story. Though some parts I wish were different, like: At the end she leaves with no goodbye hug or kiss for Von after saying we'll be to gether forever(you gotta leave something).. Plus+ I didn't really get the beginning in the scenes with her friend and stuff, but thats just me.

I started this a good year and a half ago, some time before the DVD's came out even and never finished it. I have absolutely no idea why I didn't, but I just remember pausing halfway through episode 23 and never picking it up again.
That was a mistake.
Yes, this series gets a bit of flak, but I always, always think it's best to make up your own mind about something and don't let others tell you otherwise. I'm glad I gave this series another shot, despite hearing reports about how bad the ending is (which it isn't) and all about the dreaded recap block (which you can easily skip and not even have to bat an eyelid at). The art design is some of the most beautiful, atmospheric and memorable I've ever seen in an anime. The architecture, flooded cities, endless mountain ranges and broken gothic towers are just stunning to behold. The animation is amazing, the characters (especially Toboe <3) are fantastic and the final four episodes are the most gut-wrenching and depressing you're ever likely to see.
Highly recommended.

Anyways, I am a self-proclaimed Ghibli fanboy so I really can't bring myself to score it any lower, but it could've been written better. Although it was quite a long movie, character motivations still didn't seem fleshed out enough and our good friend "deus ex machina" popped his head up a few too many times then I would've liked.
It's by no means a bad film, the story and characters were enough keep me interested and entertained, and the visual and aural experience were up to par with what I would expect from Ghibli, but when it comes down to it, I think this is the first Ghibli film I've seen that has style > substance.

Finished this ages ago and never posted about it. Oh well, not that you care.
I thought the ending was such a dull non-event that my overall opinion of this slightly odd series dipped a bit. I liked the character designs to an extent and the animation was good, although the orange aliens were exceedingly dull and there never really was a good sense of threat from then. Soma was an interesting character (hurrah for anti-heroes) and his quest of revenge was interesting to watch, but even that couldn't stop the gradual loss of intensity after the excellent middle episodes.
A weird little series, and worth a watch as long as you don't expect all that much.

Azumanga Daioh: 9.0/10 To start off saying, this is not a show for everyone. At first I honestly did not begin liking this show until a few episodes in. I like the animation and the comedy, definite high score there. However I found the way the episodes moved was rather slow, and there was no possible way to sit through 5 episodes straight. I would rather get bored of it, it would get old, etc. That was the real only downside I saw to the show. Worth a check out, but I'd say watch a couple episodes before you actually decide to buy the series.

Azumanga Daioh: 8.9. Agreed, the humor is definitely not for everyone (but works for me!). I suggest getting past the first disc before passing judgment, though. It's funniest and most rewarding after you get to know the main characters, as a lot of the comedy is driven by their particular quirks.
Ragnarok The Animation(/Abomination): 1.8.
Maria-sama ga Miteru (2 of 13): 6. What compelled me to pick up this shoujo drama? Probably the price, and just wanting to try out pure shoujo once. So far it's OK.

BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad- 9.2/10
Wow.
If you've ever been on any sort of stage you will know the churning feelings of nervousness, anticipation and elation that well up into your diaphragm as you perform. Watching BECK is like going for that ride all over again. With an incredible sense of realism, it will take you along all the triumphs and struggles of creativity in one of the most cut-throat industries in the world.
The only real negatives I could find were that at times the animation and some character designs were a little rough, and, of course, there's plenty of Engrish, but everyone loves Engrish.
BECK was a true pleasure to experience has earnt its way not only into my top ten, hell, it's a contender for my number one favourite. I just rocks!

......and, of course, there's plenty of Engrish, but everyone loves Engrish.
Not just any Engrish, but pretty awesome Engrish, but that's only going on the 2 eps I saw at Manifest.
Anyway....
Wolf's Rain (series + OVA): 7 Even ignoring the 4 episode recap block, I found this one to be a little disappointing. I think it is to do with the lack of information about events prior to the series that really hurt it (like who are the Nobles, what happened to the world to ome to this apocolyptic state (no, these aren't spoilers, they are concepts introduced in the first episode) and so on.) and in the end give s very WTF? feel to the ending.
Stolen Lupin: 8 Not a huge fan of Lupin, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Silly Lupin action all the way, there are some things that just happen, without much explanation. And it needed more of the tank.
And a couple of first looks, no score, just opinions on the couple of eps. I saw.
3000 leagues in search of mother Very interesting and poignent, animation a little dated, though.
Beck Mongolian chop squad Awesome, I have to put this on my must see list.
Mahou Sensei Negima It's like, a loli version of Love Hina, but with more girls. And not in a good way.
Yakitate! Japan Strange, yet Awesome, strange awesome? The closest I could think of was a fighting anime, but with bread. Another must see for me.
Speed Grapher I made mention of this in the Speed Grapher thread, very disturbing, but very curious. I don't want ot see it, but at the same time I do.

Ah yes, the MANIFEST anime we saw. I'll slip my opinions in here too (I've seen 2 episodes of each, bar Yakitate, which I've seen three of):
3000 leagues in search of mother
I thought it was a little dull at times, but you can definetly see hints of things to come from the Ghibli greats.
Mahou Sensei Negima
As MT just said. Like Love Hina, except if you did it in live-action you'd probably go to jail.
Speed Grapher
I do believe the WTF award has a new champion. In alot of ways it was unsettling, freaky and just plain hard to watch, but I just can't help to want to see more.
Yakitate Japan
OH-EM-EFF-GEE! I always love shows that innovate a little but here they've made an entire action anime out of making bread. If being a baker was this awesome I would have taken it up a long time ago.

Vampire Hunter D: 6.5 Similar in story telling style to Bloodlust, but it suffers from dated character designs, and often shoddy animation. Then again, it is 1985........anyway, IMHO, the new one ownz this one.
DNA Squared: 6 Overall, too ridiculous to be believable. Had some very amusing moments, but still rather predictable, and seemed to have less than par animation.
DNA Squared OVA: 6 Does shed some light on the events in the series, but still suffers from the same problems as the series.

Someday's Dreamers - 7.9/10
It started and ended strongly but there were a few episodes in there was were just plain painful to watch (Read: Kera and the orphanage. Jesus.). Note to creators: Character development only works when, after all is said and done, the characters are different to what they were in the beginning.
Concept illustrations were gorgeous, so at least it will look nice on my shelf.

Full Metal Panic 8 (Love those thin ADV boxsets)
Noir 9
Fruits Basket 10
Monster 9 (so far...)
Excel Saga 9, Excel and Hatchan rock.
Mai Hime 8, once I realized it was a parody of itself, I liked it much better.
Love Hina 8
Infite Ryvius 9 in the sub, 7 in the dub
Midori no Hibi 8 in Anime Empire fansub, 6 in licensed dub (I think the English dub is over-acted, much like Ryvius)
His and Her Circumstances 8
Paranoia Agent 9, Kon Satoshi and his mind games...

One Piece-8 out of 10.
I'm only 26 episodes in but I can see this series staying interesting for quite some time. It tends to drag on a little bit but it makes up for it with interesting fight scenes and funny dialogue.

Witch Hunter Robin - 7/8
I'm not really sure what to give this. I liked it, sure - but it never really took off for me and there was very little spark for most of it. Great animation, character designs and art isn't quite enough to smooth over a wafer-thin plot and somewhat underwhelming characters. Good, but not great just about sums it up.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children - 9/10: My only real problem with the movie is that most of the characters (Cid, Barret, RED!!!) seemed only to be cameos. I wanted more, dammit!
Ghost Talker's Daydream- 7
An avarage series, we only get to Misaki "in her job" only once in the whole series, and most of the comedy involves Misaki getting into "fan service positions" or her assistant being terrified of ghost, it was still pretty entertaining seeing how they deal with the supernatural but 4 OVA's aren't enought to acomplish anything with this series. All i can say now is that the trailer is very misleading

No nerdy commentary? I weep.
Eyeshield 21 (up to episode 12): 8.5. Joygasm! Hazah for a sports anime that doesn't take itself too seriously! (Prince of Tennis, I'm looking in your direction...)
Kyou Kara Maou (episode 8): 7. Cute character designs, but all the characters really seem to be stock types.
Peacemaker: 7. What happened to you, Peacemaker? You used to be cool, then you died halfway through. I blame the school systems...
Advent Children: 8/10
Most of the people ranting about how bad the movie was doesn't seem to understand that it was a movie, not an OVA or series. The things they ask for (ex: character development for every single character) is just wishful thinking. So the characters can "fly". Get over it.

Yeah I don't see why people would need character development in Advent Children anyways since it done in the game.

I haven't seen Advent Children, but the graphics alone give enough reason to watch it. If I do watch it, I won't go expecting too much, since it's a movie. Stuff like character dev't would waste too much time that can be put nicely into storytelling and action instead.

It's not that I was expecting a huge character development. I just didn't want to watch a mere shell of what once was something I liked about in the game. Same for the story. I know it was impossible to present both the amazing fight scenes (which by the way, take most of the film time) and intriguing story. But at the same time, I don't want to constantly raise my eyebrows and go wtf at this lame attempt at, well, a story. Of course, that doesn't mean it fails as anime as some people like to say (well, that depends on people's views on any anime's purpose). After all, each anime has its different purpose. And needless to say, same goes for the audience. So it's kind of ironic when you see someone who says something like 'i can't understand why you're bitching about the character development!' (wait...is that irony? meh...). So borrowing Lavi's very words, 'get over it'.
EDIT: wait, that sounded bit offensive. I'm not addressing this directly to anyone specifically.

It obviously wasn't about character development, it was about the freakishly awesome animation and some plot. But yea could have used more about the characters. But see Final Fantasy VII: Last Order. It's an OVA that takes place before the movie. It's about Zack, Cloud's partner and Sephiroth. It's pretty cool.

Maria-sama ga Miteru - 7.5. It's a solid shoujo, so it should appeal more to shoujo-lovers. The story moved smoothly, the characters were very human, and there were some choice bits of dialogue, but overall it was not interesting enough to me to re-watch.
There is also a noticeable (but not fatal) slip in time, when they market-timed the Valentine's Day episodes to show in February. The real timeline is #1-5, 10-11, 6-9, 12-13.
Maison Ikkoku (4 of 96) - 8.2. A familiar brand of humor.

FFVII: Advent Children- 7
It got delaed like forever and I felt it wasent gonna b so great. It was nice on the technical side, but story left me confused and noticed quite a few holes and I felt the action got way overdone by the seonc half.
Also the FF victory ringtone was just plain wierd
Fantastic Children- 9
I dealyed it for a hile, but finally finished it. I persoanlly didnt like the 1st half so much. It didnt suck at all, but usually I dont like such complexaty in the begining and I felt it started with a bit too much to grasp. Usually if I want high mystery, than I prefer something that builds up slowly othwer wise I prefer anime thats much more simple, but very engaging. Usually something very character heavy.
Fortunately the 2nd half was very good and made up for it. A few things did surpiose me. It didnt exactly blow me away, but its really far from crap.

BECK-mongolian chop squad
9.2/10
dingdingding, another BECK promotional post.
Wow. It was just ok in the beginning. Then it just kept getting better. Until it became something so immense and exciting, I was there with the fans screaming 'now this is something worth experiencing!'. Sure, the art is kinda blurry and not so fluid most of the time but I personally thought that worked kinda well. It's only when they're playing music that the world becomes alive, like how their hand movement in playing guitar suddenly becomes vivid. I personally thought that the show could've ended with 25 episodes. Perhaps something inside me, secretly didn't want BECK to be revived, something so beautiful can't come back that easily, the harshness of real life should've killed them all off!!! Their last performance is something that should be forever treasured and eventually, lost from the crowd's memories. Ugh, I start to sound like that Marchello from that cossette ova...
And Engrish...horrible, horrible engrish...
ff7:last order
6.5/10
A mere fragmentary vision into what really happened to Cloud and Jack in the game. Basically another service for the ff fans. Too bad we don't really learn anything new about the world of ff7 or the characters. Although the characters in this ova displayed much more emotions than in advent children. Has no real ending, thus a only a fragment.
offtopic comment-In my opinion, only way they might possibly barely come close to recreating the world of ff7 on the screen is making a trilogy remake of the game (like how they did lotr movie) or 26 episode tv series, but the probability is not very high. Heh, its just one of those dreams I have, like how I wish there was a trilogy of Rurouni Kenshin live action that only focuses on Kenshin's past with meiji era and tomoto and his later clash with enishi.

FF7 Advent Children: 9/10 Look I don't see why some people didn't like the story and didn't know what it was about, I how ever almost got what the story was but didn't know 100%. And my only biggest problem was it did leave some questions unanswered. But over all, WOW, Fantasic Animation, great score, and good (if not great) japanese voice acting. And I laughed when I heard the FF7 victory song on that guys cell phone. EDIT: BUT, this movie will most likely make people who haven't played the game wonder what the hell is going on. And thats all I have to say.
