i really can't think of them all...but, im known to here a song and then, automatically, i say "This song is depressing..."

Heres one: "Clocks"

Its new; its not from an anime. My mom has the CD. If no one else knows ill try to see who sings it. I think the reason it makes me sad is because of that darn piano in the background. Pianos are depressing...

Would you be thinking of Coldplay? Their song "Clocks" is famous for its addictive piano melody that keeps playing in the background, and could be considered depressing.

Kenny Rogers Christmas songs really depress me. Come to think of it, a lot of Christmas songs depress me. The worst one is the one about the kid who's mother is dying so he goes to a store to buy her a pair of shoes so she'll look good when she meets Jesus.

X-Japan - Forever Love (Acoustic Version)

The normal version doesn't really have an affect on me, it's just beautiful music. This one actually sets in and touches my emotions.
Actually, person from three years ago, I'd have to go with the Last Mix of "Forever Love." So beautiful and so sad.

X Japan - Forever Love (Last Mix)
Tom McRae - Mermaid Blues
Dir en grey - ain't afraid to die
Dir en grey - Higeki wa Mabuta wo Oroshita Yasashiku Utsu
U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday
10,000 Maniacs - Jezebel

Rachmaninov - Etudes-Tableaux op. 39 no.5 in E-flat minor

Well, there's 16 on that list, but meh. Never claimed to be a mathematician.

All of those songs tug at me lyrically and musically, and I can't help but feel contemplative and/or depressed when listening to them. Most of them will even bring me to tears if they catch me at the right mood.

Sarah Slean - John 23rd

Actually, a lot of Sarah Slean's stuff makes me very sad due to her heavy, melancholy style of playing the piano. Incredibly pretty, but depressing. She takes a little bit from Tori Amos in that way, yeah.

Er, what else... Matthew Good Band's "Strange Days" is another one. That's all for unmentioned artists in this thread that I can think of.

Panic! At The Disco does make me weep for an entirely different reason though. *is shot*

add: These Days by Nico. Personal significance. Yeah.

4. Spice Girls - Mama
3. Pink - Who Knew
2. Garbage - Bleed Like Me
&

1. Madonna - Oh Father
-About this last song: yeah, I know, roll your eyes. "Yet anooother Madonna song, will she give this shit a rest?" Honest to God or whoever is up there, this is the only song - and I mean only song - that gets me to tear up. Maybe it's because it's so close to home with my childhood, I don't know. But it's oozing with sadness. That, and "Promise To Try", which is from the same album.

Not in any particular order, with the exception of the first one:

"Basta de Llamarme así" by Los Fabulosos Cadillacs. Odd that a group famous for it's upbeat, danceable latin tones and occasionally wacky lyrics makes the list, but I'm not kidding. This song hits me pretty hard, and by that I mean it makes my eyes watery just remembering it.

Mad World by Gary Jules.
Hurt by Johhny Cash
Give My Love to Rose by Johnny Cash
Temblando by Hombres G
Don't Cry Daddy by Elvis Presley
Memories by Elvis Presley
Contigo Aprendí by Armando Manzanero (It's not a sad song per se, makes me sad for personal reasons)
Blowin' in the Wind by Bob Dylan
No one but you by Queen

Three of mine are on Kei's list. So sue me. Or better yet, don't.

In no particular order, and unlike my usual music forum posts, i won't post long drawn-out explanations because, well, what's more to explain than these songs make me sad sometimes/always/ocassionally?

But really, I like to listen to these songs when I'm sad/down or just in a mood for usually quiter tunes. So they don't make me sad, but they often emphasize my mood.

1. Blur - Battery in Your Leg
2. Beatles - Yesterday
3. Beatles - Across the Universe
4. Weezer - Butterfly
5. Weezer - Across the Sea
6. Velvet Underground - Pale Blue Eyes
7. Radiohead - Sail to the Moon
8. Blur - No Distance Left to Run
9. David Bowie - Life On Mars
10. Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart

Though The Cure's album Pornogrpahy should get note for being possibly the most depressing album altogether.

Just for the fun of it, I'll list my top 10 sad songs Billboard chart style as of the present moment. I'll take it that anime songs can be considered:

10.) Blue Eyes Blue by Eric Clapton feat. Babyface - One of my favorite songs by the man himself. Not to mention it fit the movie "Runaway Bride" as an official soundtrack like a glove.

09.) Moon On The Water by Sowelu - Sowelu's best song in my books, apart from "I Will" from FMA's soundtrack. I believe it's her first anime song done in English, and I see good prospects of her making something as wonderful as the above. Highly emotional that embodies the highs and lows of teenage life in BECK: MCS.

08.) Behind Blue Eyes by Limp Bizkit - Generally a song that I'll turn up the stereo when I'm having the blues. Sounds a little emo to me, but nevertheless Fred Durst nailed this one for sure.

07.) Street Spirit by Radiohead - There's something creepy about the song... and it's this creep that I'm very much enticed about to this song. Naturally my favorite Radiohead song, and something to listen to when I'm feeling moody.

06.) Sinking Into A Deeper Water in Ayashi No Ceres - A very melancholic non-lyrical song in the mentioned series. The song really personifies the dramatic (sometimes overly dramatic) aspect of the anime.

05.) Don't Go Away by Oasis - Not Oasis' best song but nevertheless highly noteworthy. The guitar riffs and overall rhythm to the song truely makes this song tear-inducing. I particularly love the guitar solo towards the very end of the song - wonderful.

04.) Tears In Heaven by Eric Clapton - A song written by Eric for his late son, and that speaks for itself. Even reading the lyrics itself made my tears roll down my face without hesitation. I feel you, Eric. God bless you.

03.) Dearest in Inuyasha - Yep, one of the songs that chartered Ayumi Hamasaki as the Queen of J-POP (well, not anymore though). I generally hated the series for several reasons, but I can sincerely say that this is the best closing song to the series. It's the first piano notes that got me hooked to the song in the first place.

02.) Painful Memories ~ A Boy Meets The Man in Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen - This is a very difficult choice for me, mainly because the OVA has tonnes of sad songs, namely Sound of Snow Falling and Alone Again. The reason why I chose this eventually is because it embodies the life of Kenshin from start to end - from the innocent child he was to the sword-wielding iceman to eventually the lone wanderer. Taku Iwasaki, I bow before you for your magnificent work!

Drum rolls please...

01.) Lullaby in Now and Then, Here and There - The one song that symbolizes the innocence of childhood. Seriously, I cried when I listened to it for the first time while watching the series (it was one of the saddest, just to add). The song is just over 2 minutes, but it packs more emotional impact than almost any other anime songs more than twice the duration.

There are alot of other sad songs (including Fixing A Broken Heart by Indecent Obsession and Here Without You by 3 Doors Down), but I don't want to make my post too lengthy, so I'll leave it as it is :hugyou:.
